Longhorn Leaked!

Hi.  I think that Microsoft is just trying to fool people into thinking that their next OS' UI  will be crappy...and when the new OS arrives, it'll be nice and decent...I mean, Microsoft can't be that stupid.

I was looking at the SuperSite for Windows and saw these UI prototypes for Longhorn and I thought that it would really kick ass if they did it like this.

Bye,

funny people saying everything sucks, hell they must hate aqua, no one even tries to do anything with it really anymore, its some other sh##ty theme from the mac.

ugg, branding, branding everywhere... why can't they just lay off putting their label everywhere, people know what they just bought, the advertizing job is over!

Those without a doubt the fattest titlebars i've ever, ever seen.

what are 'sound behaviours'? Is there a microsoft phrase dictionary?

Timan, you've been playing to many video games :6

We've been trying to copy aqua for 3 FREAKING YEARS! How is aqua not great?

How big is the "Luna" movement on OSX? One skin?

#69816

let me just jump in here....

I for one think that the new longhorn OS is doin pretty good, even we havent seen anything but screenshots of the desktop and some dialog boxes and a few windows, we dont really know wats underneath longhorn, and that is what im waiting for, not those little betas, cause they dont show much. if you remember, all the betas for xp, 2000, m.e. and way back to 98 were always totally different from the final release.

and as for the "its getting too simple comments" i think that is true in a sense, theyre making it too simple in a wrong way, and there is a good way, like when error messages show up, all it tells you is that its formed an illegal operation, and thats it. no help on whats wrong, how to fix it, or anything.

Im a real i candy kinda person, thats why i always wanted to design my own OS. id make it look so good, but i have little programming skills, im still lookin for a partner in crime who knows programming to make a good team to build a really good OS. id want it to be fully customizable, and user friendly, but u can still get down and dirty with it if u got the know how. But im sure that dream would never come true. *stares off into the night sky* lol naw but enough with my wishful thinkin....

i think longhorn is good and OSX is great, only one thing i would add to OSX, Right Click !

if ur refering to my post, i'm just stating everyone is getting bored with aqua, just like they got bored with luna which everyone LUVED! when they first saw xp.

but we all luve to change :moon: < who ever added that HAHAHAHA

OK, Timmie has me there.

The first time I used XP, I was shocked. I didn't think Windows could have color. I also liked how some of the things were animated. :o

But that joy quickly faded as I had to use LUNA on an 800x600 monitor. Anyone who has done this knows how annoying Luna is. The title bars take up 3/4 of the screen.

no, that's Longhorn where they'll take up 3/4 of the screen.

#69823

I've moved from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200 resolution on my 17" monitor, just to earn some extra space for all those applications I run all the time.

And now I see extra wasted space, huge buttons, a sidebar taking up 1/8th of the screen and a start menu as big as my dock!

Longhorn is not an OS for palmtops, nor for "Media Center" TV sets only. If it was meant just for those, then it's ok. But it's supposed to be the dominant OS of 2005 (or 6?)

I would be ashamed to show something like that to the public! :P

Ugh! What an insult to the computing community. M$ need to hire someone with some design qualifications! I mean, everything about xp and now longhorn is just so disgusting. "Make you want to lick.. no.. kick your screen"

Future of windows, going on current trends will look something like this :

LOL, thats awesome. And as far as what I think of how the latest shot of longhorn look: You ever take a sh## in the woods one day.. you know, when your skipping class or something... yeah, thats what that gardient looks like. Give it to MS to put sh## at a whole new level!

It's too early to judge what LognHorn is going to look like from those screenshots.

If one reflects back to XP's history, one will recall that the XP GUI got changed several times before it's final release.

Also, it really doesn't matter what LongHorn looks like, we will change it anyway ;)

hmm.

When I was using Windows 98, I really like the Luna Interface. Clean, Intuitive window. Blue and a refreshing look. I already saw aqua, but I think Luna is the best...

Until the Aqua UI Emulation deepens, I think Aqua is better that Luna.

But the UI of Windows is great.. Like on the Longhorn, Im fascintated of the features of it. A lil bit of UI......

But the best of all, is the Palladium Stuff.... iThink.....

But its new and buggy bugs will target us. Compatibility issues. Uhh!!!

the gui right now is pretty gay in my opinion. You gotta give points to microsoft for trying though. The only thing i like is the back and forward buttons, they look like from a cd player or something.

#69926

Just a reminder: Longhorn's not going to be released for about two years.

Even Microsoft will come up with a better GUI than this for the final release. The earlier betas for XP looked like a mildly tweaked version of 2000, Longhorn the same with XP.

An interesting comparison is the evolution of Mac OS X GUI-wise. A comprehensive list of the developent of X can be seen at ArsTechnica and proves that betas this early can't be trusted.

Who would have thought that Mac OS X DP2 would turn into the sumptious GUI known as Aqua?

#69939

this is also quite interesting, although perhaps slightly less.
