Personally, I REALLY dislike the direction Microsoft is taking for re-desiging the Windows GUI. I mean, look at the friggin' 'back' button in IE. It's half the screen size!
And the gradient effect - a cheap ripoff of the iApps?

I get it! The reasoning for Windows is that every single release is to confuse thw user more and make it look even more cluttered with useless gradients in the title bar, then menu bar, and now the task bar! It's so clear now!!! <_

anyway, the UI really is turning PlaySkool. Its basically "Computers for Dummies".
Too much screen real estate is being taken up, a bunch of useless features,etc,etc.
And dont tell me "its still in beta":
1. They are releasing this to the public, so its expected to have a little polish.
2. Even though XP's theme changed during the betas, the (horrible) layout remained the same.
They really are making Windows TOO simple (there is such a thing), eventually, Windows will consist of:
* Press Here to play a Windows Media file
* Press Here to browse the Microsoft Internet Explorer
* Press Here to read your Microsoft Email via outlook
* Press here to shutdown

dont judge the OS just by how it looks like now. windows XP does not look like it does now when it was in the alpha/beta stages (whistler)
you might hate it now, but remember, the UI is going to be fully, and i mean fully customizable and hardware driven. keep that in mind, just like w/ XP we don't have to keep the same bars etc.. Longhorn is going to be immensely more skinable than XP is...

This thing better be able to customize the damn 16 color icons in the dialog boxes, a circular progress bar in the boot screen,...
so far all the ui's ms has dropped out sure still look better than that half ass brushed by apple!

I don't Get it Everyone seems to complain about how ugly this new Windows is.
I for one have always thought each new Windows release was butt ugly from 3.1 to this latest eyesore But My question is "were any of you really considering leaving the GUI alone I know that when this is released I will bring it home load it up and start F***ing with the GUI first thing. So who gives a rat's what it looks like now? I wanna know what it will look like after some of us get our hands on it.

Hi. I think that Microsoft is just trying to fool people into thinking that their next OS' UI will be crappy...and when the new OS arrives, it'll be nice and decent...I mean, Microsoft can't be that stupid.
I was looking at the SuperSite for Windows and saw these UI prototypes for Longhorn and I thought that it would really kick ass if they did it like this.

well this is refreshing... i've read a few other forums where people really liked it as its coming along. Its not just that its ugly, its that its creepily consistent with old window's layout design/misplacement. A-S should sell cd's with one click gui overhalls when it comes out... start now on all the betas.

I dont get what in the world MS do to luna, it became like a pile of low rez disfigured ugly shapes, colored with the WORST choices of colors, along with a fukked up so called "nature" wallpaper that has nothing to do with the term design.
god that is so ugly. Its like a typical skin off of customize.org
Even THEY have better skins.
