[wishlist] Things I Would Like To See In O.d. 1.0

i was thinking (which doesn`t happen very often :D)

i love the new KkMenu docklet, the polishness, different attention effects of OD. But what i dislike is more so it "forced" me to switch to YZ (i`ve always been user of OD untill .99) (and not that beeing forced to Yz is a bad thing)

I`d like to open ONE MORE :) wishlist for OD.

So here are few things i`d like to see in OD 1.0:

autofocus

sepatators

trash can with an option to display number of items and size of the trash

better folder shortcut handleing (drag the folder to the dock to make a working shortcut, that doesn`t work @ the moment)

show command: normal, minimized, maximized in the shortcut options

more magnification modes (as i remember in earlier versions we had 3 or 4) (i like Yz`s very much)

i know i might be asking to much now but reducing resource usage would be great (this eventually drove me away from OD and the fact that it took OD 3-4 secs to open a folder where Yz does it instantly)

option to easily change the poof (this would give +1 in the eye candy appeal:))

these are just things that came up on my mind, if you can remember any more please add them since i`d like to give StarDock a hand in improving this great prog. I don`t mean to *****, i`m just giving some constructive critisism. And i`d also like to thank Jeff and guys @ StarDock for putting all their time into developing OD. Keep on the good work guys.

How about something I've been asking for since the first beta...

Ability to drag and drop files to dock items and

1) If the dock item is an application, open the file with that application

2) If the dock item is a folder, move or copy (depending in Windows conventions) the file to that folder

#56058

more speed! <_< (like MobyDock)

#56064

@ hallf - this is why i postedthis wishlist, so guys from stardock could see what people need in OD.

#56101

a lot of times when i put the mouse over the dock and then move it, the icons stay magnified :s

and after a screen saver, or just a computer lock (to the welcome screen) i only see the dock background, and i have to put my mouse over it to make the icons appear.

sorry for my english :/

I only have 2 suggestions at the moment, and they both deal with accuracy to the OSX Dock...

1. Option to have Recycle Bin grouped with running tasks (a la OSX)

and last but not least..

2. A more OSX-esque icon bounce. (the current one bounces way too far, too fast, and for too long)

Other than that I must say I'm very pleased with OD .99 :D

???

Do you have 'lock dragging' toggled?

This option worked for me since forever ???

I'd like to have subfolder loading in 'change image' dialog. It's hard to get organised when you have 4000 icons :D

It could be faster. When I set background to tiles, it gets extremely slow (on celeron1.7/radeon9000pro/512MB Ram).

@unbeliever: great suggestions, autofocus is the most important thing for me at the moment (very irritating when I have to minimize windows in order to get access to my dock  )

When will we see OD 1.0?

#56240

where is jeff? after the .99 release day ive never saw him again...

I guess nobody told you that you can arrange your

icons/pngs in subfolders ? :)

Come on man, I'm not an idiot!:lol: Let's say you have 400 app icons. 50 of them are graphic apps, 50 are internet apps, 100 are multimedia apps, 50 are office apps and so on....it's really awful to have them in one folder (total chaos); having them in a folder 'Apps' and subfolders 'Graphics', 'Audio', etc is even more awful (total chaos too because OD doesn't support subfolders) and creating lots of folders for different types of icons is terrible too - it's the situation shown on your screenshot - I have 20 folders with icons for now, each containing 1-7 subfolders. It's a mess for me. I hate it and that's why I want subfolders like in Yz Dock. :6 :naughty:

@Pe7er

well i did my best. I was an OD zealot `till .99 but then it`s advantages became less than it`s flaws so i switshed to Yz. But since Yz dock`s dead i`ll go back to OD sooner or later (hope it`ll be sooner) (don`t like Moby`s magnification effect)

Only one function it's need:

MULTI-MONITOR

Please, please, please !!! :order:

Really are only 1 hour to implement. See: http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/

A few things I would love to see in 1.0:

Thicker clock hands (like in Y'z) and maybe a seconds hand too.

In 1600*1200, you can barely see the hands, even in full magnification.

(Please don't tell me I missed the "check here if you want to be able to read the clock on the dock" button.) :-)

That the dock uses DirectX like Mobydock. It really is easier on the System.

If you aling the dock to a corner, the dock items should only magnify away from the corner and not leave the screen. (At least as an option).

A system tray (, -Docklet) if KKmenue's author doesn't pull that of.

i hope nooot...?!?!?

But then again,.. i dont think too much requests will be fullfilled anyway!

Cheers...

#58445

i bet autofocus wont be implemented on 1.0 ;)

#58475

well who knows! by the way i`ve come up with two more things.

one is (very important) that when magnified dock is wider than the screen it shouldn`t expand beyond the screen border and hide the icons. it should expand to the border and stop (just like the OS X dock).

second is a dream wish. it would be great if users (more experienced ones, those who know programming) could make their own magnification modes. that way we could have bunch of mag modes and SD wouldn`t be responsible is pple make their dock look & feel & magnify like the OS X dock.

Cheers

Any news about the next release? i switched back from Yz to OD cause of the KkMenu docklet (i`m a b1tch, i know :shy: )

I can`t live without auto focus!!!

yeah, unbeleiver's request is good. I want to use od for the tasks section, but i want it near the side of my desktop which means its always expanding off screen. Combining a screen edge boundary with more adjustable dock position(ie. the margin slider in y'z dock) would be the way to go.

and yeah, AF

Looks like OD is shaping up pretty well, and may actually replace y'z for me a few versions from now.

another idea!

how about a nice theme preview in "load theme", something like in YzStyle docklet? I have like 15 themes and it would be great to be able to preview one before applying it. in current OD i have to keep applying themes untill i find the one i want.

what do u guys think? :baby:

#60307

i bought a new fast pc. i set up my windows. i used my old profiles/settings.

i installed objectdock and now when i click on minimize button objectdock doesn't create snapshots of windows except small windows like the download dialog of internet explorer.

i don't really understand it because it worked on my old pc.

snapshots only work when i click on their ODicon. do you have any idea?

i have more than 60 themes, i think i really need it

#60362

hmmmm

i`m probably now being a pain in the as$ but how about an option in the shortcut properties to run the program like in Yz: Normal, Minimized or Maximized?

I like my IE, OE and some other programs opened maximized but i can`t do that with OD, i hv to keep maximizing them after i open the progs.
