Apple's Recent/Anticipated Products

They are hardly essential, but they empower people. They alow people to see different view points and just learn new things that could help their carrer.

I think they are important for people to raise they social "caste" (Do they still have those =P) by...well..empowering them =)

*addition: Thank god for the edit button! w00t! Anyway, heh, I still have some of those "Floppy" floppies, you'd think they would hold more =) Hell, I even have a drive for those =)

to go along with what fissyb was saying, wouldn't customization be present anywhere, assimilation of just about anything is part of human nature, we take things and make them our own, whether its information, or nike's, they become our own, and are hence customized

hehe - thanks - i'll just sit this one out, observe and leave with a quote from Judge - " Oh to be young again!"

I wasnt reffering to my opinions as facts. I had some facts stated, but my opinions were not. Of course I believe they are, but they are only my opinions, so to you they may not be.

something to do with you saying anyone who didn't agree with you flat out fools made me 'think different'

I think Mac users never complain about their computers seeming old because there isn't ever any software (read: games) that they can use to test their macs.

I think if Taha tried to run UT2K3 on his fairly recent ibook he might have problems

#35470

Hey Contra... we had computers 10-15 years ago didn't we?

We weren't all so rich then were we.

I'm glad my laptop came with a floppy disk... it would be very annoying to have to burn a cd every time i wanted to go and print something on the university printers

#35471

Is UT2003 out for Mac yet? When it comes out, I may finally get a mac (probobly the G5). I cant live w/o UT2K3. :-)

#35472

Contrustra, I use Macs all the time. But, because I dont own one I cannot be boasting about something I dont even own, that is my point. I am just expressing my opinion about Macs and stating a few facts here and there.

#35473

Really? That wasnt boasting?

looked for a link but couldn't find

i bought a mac magazine about a month ago and it had a demo on it. So if it hasn't been released yet, i'm sure it will be by the time the G5s eventually come out

As I am a web master for a school, I've had my experience with OSX and Mac before.

I thought that the OSX was gonna be total crap, but it wasn't.

If an award goes to a beautiful computer (except for the new Area 51 from Alienware =P) it’s the G5. It’s just so simplistic, or maybe it’s because they took everything out =) either way, Apple may skimp in performance, but you really have to give it to them for their innovation in looks and their break from the basic GUI model.

I still think the PC will own the market because it is OPEN. There’s billions (and I mean billions, including screws and boxes =P) of setup possibilities. Frankly, it’s a miracle that Microsoft got Windows XP to work as well as it does.

Well, there’s my ranting, flame away =)

#35476

Well if you were part of the Tech Buble, your not all to rich now =)

Its not if I dont own one. If I dont own a Mac how can I boast. Ok, fine, I am boasting for Apple, but not for me.

dang... I would love to try out the mac that influenced you so much. Must've been one hellava machine..

Taha, it was never one Mac. It is all Macs; Macs in general. There is no one machine that made me love Macs. I have seen and used many Macs and after seeing what Apple does and seeing many of their Macs, I draw my conclusion.

Guys, guys, guys. Lets not get into the "which is easier debate" Macs or PC's. The obvious answer is Macs, and if you think otherwise you are a flat out dumb fool.

HA HA HA. Oh yeah, Windows computers are really geeky and hard.  Windows computers are EASY, unix is HARD, and people who buy macs for thier "ease of use" are BRAINDEAD.

If you think clicking ok, ok, ok, a bunch of times is hard, you need a good kick in the pants.

YOU THINK WINDOWS IS THAT EASY?? Ya, it may be easy to press the ok button a few times, but what do you do when the dialog box doesnt have an ok button? :GASP: What if reads your system had an error blah blah blah etc., and not even the people that created windows know what it means. No one does, and the only answer is to reformat the whole f***ing computer and reinstall the os. GREAT!

Now, does this happen with Macs?? No, it just simply does not. I'm not saying you will never get an error message on a Mac, but you wont have to end up reformatting the entire hard drive.

Excuse me, when was the last time you went to the Apple Store? Well, probably not in a while. Apple sells fine computers for $800-$1000.

The fun of having a mac is knowing its a RARITY. If everyone had a rolex, would you think Rolex would be thought of highly? Or anything else of the sort for that matter?

The thing is, it may be fun, but Apple doesnt want to keep it this way. You think Apple wants to stay small, and always be the 2nd or 3rd personal computer company?? I dont think so. Not with Steve Jobs in the chair. Apple loves to be #1. Believe me, they want to be big. They could care less if people are attracted to their computers because they are rare. They want attraction to their products through innovation and the fact that no one else comes close.

You understand me incorrectly. I do not think this one processor will dominate the market all by itself. I am saying that after this release, and looking at the way Apple is headed, this will eventually happen. I never said this would happen overnight, nor did I say it would all be because of the G5. The G5 is one of the first steps. Apple is not done yet. They will continue to innovate and slowly but surely, make their way to the top. People will start to "get it", and realize, Apple computers are so much better than pc's it is imeasurable.

The point of this thread, is to say that Apple is going to kick ass, and that aqua-soft and its developers are going to have a hard time keeping up with the emulation. OS X is constantly being made better and better, and newer features are always being added, some impossible to translate to the sh##ty windows platform. The point is, is that we wont be able to get eveyrthing that Macs have on Windows and the amount of things we wont be able to have will only increase as it already has.

It's very pretty.

It's very expensive.

It's going to be a collectors item in 6 months.

First two are correct. The third statement is a fallacy. Infact, it is completely true about windows pc's and completely false about Macs. PC's are the fastest, machines that degrade and "sh##ty" over time. Every one of my friends always complains to me that their PCs suck and that they are 10 times slower than they were the day they bought them. This is after 6 months. They constantly need repairing, and maintenence and cleanup and all this junk and sh##. Macs need, well nothing. You just use a Mac and will not get a second slower than the day it was bought. It will run virtually as smooth and speedy as it did when it came out of the box. So I would say Pc's are never collectors items because they are everywhere now, but they sure do degrade and "sh##ty" like hell. Macs do not. Enough said.

Steve Jobs never says he invents anything. Are you kidding me? He gives all the credit to his engineers. Why do you think he has them come up and demonstrate some of their stuff??? He probably has some input in the design of certain things, but most of it is done by the Apple engineers and Steve doesnt take any credit for that.

I am infact just like you. I like to understand how it works, how things work, how everything works. But, if the thing I am trying to understand how it works, doesnt work, then how can I understand how it works?

To conclude my response, I am going to say, that these are my own opinions on matters and such. I believe everything I say with full mind.

my best friend have a mac g4 running mac OSX, and he got some serious problems, and of course, he didn't know what to do, the mac wasn't booting, so he has to format the hard drive, and all that involves, ....install the software again, lost every mp3, files ,blah blah blah, etc.,

ok.

mac ARE good.

but they are not perfect. and by this price, i can"t expect nothing less.... :shy:

can you imagine what pc you can set up for the price of a mac? :woot:

#35481

Anyone know if that hard drive recovery stuff works on mac files? You know, they hook up a machine, loads every bit off a dirve and they try to get the data back ($600-800)

Jmitch:

I'm not here to chastise you, but I feel inclined to ask: if you feel Windows and x86 are so dire, what are you doing here? I thought this was a computer customisation site aimed at users of x86 computers to bring a closer visual experience to that seen in Mac OS X. Not a place for self confessed Mac zealots to tell us all how crap our systems are. All of us here respect Apple by default, that's the maxim of Aqua-Soft. But please don't tell us that our systems are crap, that Windows is for idiots, and other such things. You ask people to value your opinion. Value ours, and perhaps we may.

Care to comment?

#35486

Benchmarks? If you look at the benchmarks Spec uses, they are biased against non X86 machines because they use Intel C++ 7.0 compilers (throws away fpu precision in exchange for speed) versus GCC on PPC platforms. That is hardly a fair comparison.

That guy is complaining about use of GCC for both intel and G5 machines in the Apple tests but even the GCC 3.3 is more optimized for Intel than PPC.

He also complains about disabling SSE2 (GCC does not support SSE2 for vector anyway) only as a p*ss poor generic fpu.

He also complains about disabling Hyperthreading being disabled for the dual tests. The linux 2.4 kernel has a bug which would actually slow down the test with hyperthreading enabled because it would see it has two processors per chip and you would have contention between two threads resulting in lower scores with linux and GCC.

The Malloc optimization is supposed to be included in shipping panther for 64bit anyway.

Only the real world tests give people an idea of how fast it actually is because it tests the whole system rather than some artificial code loop that some compilers can optimize.

According to all of those real world tests, the G5 is faster. :D Case closed

:order: ;)

And also, Windows XP is HORRIBLE with memory!

i'm using panther as of now.

SharedLibs: num = 123, resident = 35.0M code, 3.04M data, 10.7M linkedit.

MemRegions: num = 8929, resident = 131M + 15.3M private, 94.5M shared.

PhysMem: 74.6M wired, 312M active, 138M inactive, 525M used, 242M free.

VirtMem: 3.19G + 78.6M, 17588 pageins, 5065 pageouts.

don't tell me that's good memory managment.

panther is a resource hog.
