Apple's Recent/Anticipated Products

The sad thing is, the floppy was important, and the dumb girlfriend, after finding his floppy, used a magnet..

#35387

Regarding the floppy disks... maybe you don't know it, but in the third world countries, (like Mexico) the floppy disks are widely used yet. I work at a "tech" (web desing) company and I have to use the floppy some times, and that's one of the things that we hate of our G4's.

I can't even imagine the things in other poor countries as Haiti or Guatemala.

#35406

Well, atleast one thing was rid of. The "floppy" floppies. Anyone remember those?

Man, I have a Commodore 64! That's all those things understood! I have a stockpile of 5.25" disks packed away somewhere.. lol

Guys, guys, guys. Lets not get into the "which is easier debate" Macs or PC's. The obvious answer is Macs, and if you think otherwise you are a flat out dumb fool.

HA HA HA. Oh yeah, Windows computers are really geeky and hard.  Windows computers are EASY, unix is HARD, and people who buy macs for thier "ease of use" are BRAINDEAD.

If you think clicking ok, ok, ok, a bunch of times is hard, you need a good kick in the pants.

YOU THINK WINDOWS IS THAT EASY?? Ya, it may be easy to press the ok button a few times, but what do you do when the dialog box doesnt have an ok button? :GASP: What if reads your system had an error blah blah blah etc., and not even the people that created windows know what it means. No one does, and the only answer is to reformat the whole f***ing computer and reinstall the os. GREAT!

Now, does this happen with Macs?? No, it just simply does not. I'm not saying you will never get an error message on a Mac, but you wont have to end up reformatting the entire hard drive.

Most people buy sub $1000 computers. Apple doesnt even have an entry into that markey, while both Windows and Linux do.

Excuse me, when was the last time you went to the Apple Store? Well, probably not in a while. Apple sells fine computers for $800-$1000.

The fun of having a mac is knowing its a RARITY. If everyone had a rolex, would you think Rolex would be thought of highly? Or anything else of the sort for that matter?

The thing is, it may be fun, but Apple doesnt want to keep it this way. You think Apple wants to stay small, and always be the 2nd or 3rd personal computer company?? I dont think so. Not with Steve Jobs in the chair. Apple loves to be #1. Believe me, they want to be big. They could care less if people are attracted to their computers because they are rare. They want attraction to their products through innovation and the fact that no one else comes close.

Jmitch I think you are getting way to excited with the new release of the processor to the point of believing that it will domain the market and microsoft will die.

You understand me incorrectly. I do not think this one processor will dominate the market all by itself. I am saying that after this release, and looking at the way Apple is headed, this will eventually happen. I never said this would happen overnight, nor did I say it would all be because of the G5. The G5 is one of the first steps. Apple is not done yet. They will continue to innovate and slowly but surely, make their way to the top. People will start to "get it", and realize, Apple computers are so much better than pc's it is imeasurable.

I don't know the point of this thread...

The point of this thread, is to say that Apple is going to kick ass, and that aqua-soft and its developers are going to have a hard time keeping up with the emulation. OS X is constantly being made better and better, and newer features are always being added, some impossible to translate to the sh##ty windows platform. The point is, is that we wont be able to get eveyrthing that Macs have on Windows and the amount of things we wont be able to have will only increase as it already has.

It's very pretty.

It's very expensive.

It's going to be a collectors item in 6 months.

First two are correct. The third statement is a fallacy. Infact, it is completely true about windows pc's and completely false about Macs. PC's are the fastest, machines that degrade and "sh##ty" over time. Every one of my friends always complains to me that their PCs suck and that they are 10 times slower than they were the day they bought them. This is after 6 months. They constantly need repairing, and maintenence and cleanup and all this junk and sh##. Macs need, well nothing. You just use a Mac and will not get a second slower than the day it was bought. It will run virtually as smooth and speedy as it did when it came out of the box. So I would say Pc's are never collectors items because they are everywhere now, but they sure do degrade and "sh##ty" like hell. Macs do not. Enough said.

Im just saying, Steve Jobs acts like he invents so many things that he didn't.

Steve Jobs never says he invents anything. Are you kidding me? He gives all the credit to his engineers. Why do you think he has them come up and demonstrate some of their stuff??? He probably has some input in the design of certain things, but most of it is done by the Apple engineers and Steve doesnt take any credit for that.

I usually go by the idea that its better to learn how to do something thouroughly, and to fully understand what it is your doing. I dont want to know how to turn a computer on, I want to know how the actual parts work. Im like this with most things, If I spend the time to learn it, I want to learn it right, or its not really worth learning at a

I am infact just like you. I like to understand how it works, how things work, how everything works. But, if the thing I am trying to understand how it works, doesnt work, then how can I understand how it works?

To conclude my response, I am going to say, that these are my own opinions on matters and such. I believe everything I say with full mind.

The great thing about Apple maufacturing their own hardware AND software is that since they know every detail about the hardware that their software will be used on, they can tailor it to take advantage of every single aspect of their CPU's. That is why each version of OS X gets faster. Case in point, several old 233 mhz iMacs (i.e., the first iMac line) can run Jaguar quite well, as long as the iMac has adequate RAM. Do you think Windows XP runs well on a 233 mhz P1 or P2? No, it doesn't. And these same iMacs will also be able to run Panther. Why? Because Apple is making their OS take advantage of their hardware and tailoring the OS around it. Windows can't do that for the exact reason you stated- people mix and match. Windows runs on SO many different system configurations that it is impossible to make the OS fit each machine's specific needs. The result? Windows hogging memory and processor cycles....just let XP run for a couple days without running a RAM enhancement program and you will find that Windows slowly munches away at your RAM until there is less and less open for other apps, slowing down the entire system.

Now I'm not bashing Windows, it's just the way it goes...if Microsoft produced it's own hardware, you can bet they'd be building Windows around that hardware.

-godpunk

HELL YES. COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF. THANK YOU GODPUNK.

This is the one of the main reasons for Apple's success with their robust and stable software. Apple makes the hardware, Apple makes the software.

Windows makes the software.....

You tell me who makes the hardware, cause I have no frickin idea. Its a bunch of f***ed up companies jamming their cards and boards together and then having a company like Dell come along and slap their name on it and call it a Dell.

#35425

First, I meant Apple takes credit for things they didn't invent. But im glad stevie gives credit to the Apple developers, since ZeroConf was their brilliant idea ;-)

Next, ladies and gentlemen, I give you your:

MAC ZEALOT!, MAC-L33T, MAC-MONK, whatever you want to call it.

Get off your high horse, if Windows is so sh##ty, then why are we able to customize it this thouroughly.

And x86 will never die, based on the simple fact is thats what Linux is founded in, and linux isn't going anywhere. In fact, it has been consistantly doing better than Macs and will continue to.

#35428

What was the last piece of hardware Apple actually MADE? (apple II?). I mean, I dont see any of their big factories around. Jobs was bragging about IBMs factories. I believe the G5s were designed for IBMs servers, and than Apple just bought them.

And Godpunk, Windows XP has been ran on a 486. Beat that. Check Toms Hardware, they were able to get it to run WELL on a P100.

Also, RAM usage isnt a good comparision, Linux will use 99% of your RAM all the time, and thats why its so fast, its not afraid to Cache things. Im not saying XP is like this (its actually the opposite), but im saying its not a valid benchmark.

And also, XP has no memory leak problems, yeah, 98 did, but XP is fine in that arena.

Your right, if there was just one Hardware/software maker, we'd all have an amazing OS that was perfect. I dont like Big Brother thank you.

Do you even own a mac?

I couldn't care less if a Mac is easier anyway... what is really so hard about windows...

sure you occaisionally get weird errors.. BUT YOU DO ON MACs TOO!

People have to reinstall macos from time to time too. Granted its probably not as common as on windows... but i usually find a format is good anyway, if only for getting rid of bloatware that can get installed.

#35432

dang... I would love to try out the mac that influenced you so much. Must've been one hellava machine..

#35433

^^^^^^^^^^^ contra, (not that it means much, because i'm an idiot), but i couldn't agree with you more. the first post of this thread sounds like the closed minded crap and mindless dribble that i'm supposed to be posting on this forum. i'd advise the poster to yield the title of resident idiot back to me. pc's aren't going anywhere bubba, it will NEVER happen.

edit: lolerz, this is the best mac vs. pc thread ever, especially since the majority of the user base here are people who use pc and hence obviously don't mind it, but also like mac...i'm enjoying the open-mindedness

edit2: after throughly reading through this thread, i have decided i hate Jmitch

edit3: i move for a discovery proceeding to find the true age of Jmitch (read: probably 14 going by the agnst), if said discovery proceeding finds that Jmitch is older, i move that an IQ test be administered to prove Jmitch really is 14 inside so i may be reassured someone out there in the world is not really this naive and closed minded

ummm... USB memory sticks? More conveniant. And much MUCH more storage space.

1.44MB is a JOKE. Why not keep the huge ass floppy too, then?

By the way, its good to see you're back Iceman. :)

Nevertheless, the G5 was designed specifically for the Mac OS X. Apple has been working very closely with IBM over the past few months. You dont Intel and Microsoft getting together and saying, "Ok, lets make a great chip and a great OS and put them together!! No. Microsoft built everything they had on top of Intels chips that were previously made.

And also, Windows XP is HORRIBLE with memory! They have the worst memory management and its been like this from the beginning. Windows never had good memory management and Macs did. There yet another reason for why Macs are more stable than Pc's.

1.44mb is a joke now, but back then it could hold a considerable amount of data. Well, it was a lot back then, that is all I'm saying. But, that is why Apple doesnt include floppy drives in any of their computers anymore. Notice Apple is smart. Who's gonna use a frigin floppy drive!?!? Like Taha said, they are a JOKE nowadays. It is a stupid idea to even include one in any computer.

Guys, guys, guys. Lets not get into the "which is better debate" My tennis shoes or Nike. The obvious answer is mine, and if you think otherwise you are a flat out dumb fool. My shoes are built better, use better material, and are the state of the art. I can even run faster than you. My tennis shoes are going to take over the world. Hyperthreading? Ha! i've got velcro. Much faster.

People, My shoes are eventually going to take over the shoe industry, whether you like it or not, so you might as well save up your pennies, save your time wasted on other shoes and just jump on the band wagon now. People, its a reality. You may not want to believe it now (for those messed up people who like Nikes, dont know why your here), but it is going to happen.

I said it once and i'll say it again, you Nike people are flat out dumb fools.

#35446

Hey Taha :)

Here, a memory stick of 128 MB is being sold around 120 USD. That's a looooot of money for many mexicans. Off topic but just to let you know, millions of mexicans families has to live with less than 50 USD monthly (the whole family).

#35449

It certainly has its flaws, but with the speed and ram it does have its almost tempting. Then again there are barely any games available for it and its quite pricey. Ill just stick with the mac appearance :)

We may be able to customize it this thoroughly, but it still sucks. I never said I was on a "high horse" and I dont intend to be on one. I am only sticking to the truth and I'm not gonna bend to some foolish ideas.

And thank you very much I am proud of being a Mac Zealot, and you are a...???

window, pc, x86, intel, pentium, sh##, wintel, box maniac whatever you wanna call it.

Customizing doesnt prove a good operating system. If the operating system works the way it is, is good the way it is, and is functional the way it is, then please, answer my question. Why would you need to customize it so much???

Ya, real mature Lynchnot. I dont even own a Mac!!! So how can your analogy refer to what I was saying?!?! I'm not boasting about something I own, because I dont even own it! Im simply stating true facts, whether you choose to believe them or not, well that is up to you eniterely.

#35453

umm are you some sort of tennis shoe zealot?

you don't know what you're talking about... my nikes are clearly faster than your retarded shoes.

(btw... would never actually wear nikes.... and what is it with you americans calling anyone you don't like retarded?)

#35454

=( hell, even for a day, me being a PC user, I accually thought the G5 was better than a P4 3 ghz!

I feel so violated.....

:c'ya:

*Addition: The case is purty though =) I'd go for one for my PC. Wonder if anyone will offer a modded g5 case to fit ATX....

#35455

its about choice Jmitch...

people customize macos too you know. Ever heard of a guy called Max Rudberg?

hes quite big in the skinning world

don't call anyone who doesn't agree with you foolish and don't call your opinion facts.

otherwise you'll end up like a grumpy old man (Videomann)

#35456

Did you read my post Jmitch, the G5s were designed for IBM servers, NOT for Apple.

But We can argue on and on and on about memory management. Do a test, run JUST XP (no other 3rd party programs) over night, and record its beggining and after memory usage. If we all do that, we can get a farely reasonable benchmark.

Oh, and mac users do the same thing.

I think you will see that its other programs that have the leaks, not Windows.

And Iceman, I dont want to sound like an asshole (I know I will), but if they are that poor, why do they have computers to begin with? I mean, computers are hardly essential.

#35458

 hehhehahaha - entertaining - to the mac

#35459

i still love you lynchnot,

please refer to my above post so i avoid spamming for all my comments regarding this thread or any of its participants

to go along with what fissyb was saying, wouldn't customization be present anywhere, assimilation of just about anything is part of human nature, we take things and make them our own, whether its information, or nike's, they become our own, and are hence customized

#35460

OH, you don't even own a mac. Than shut up and let the people with actual experience in them talk about it.

I happen to use Macs every day (my whole school uses them) and I use PCs every day (my personal crap), and I have some idea what im talking about. Im no expert, but im not an idiot.

All this "stability" you talk about was taken from bsd, which has its foundations in x86. If BSD stopped development, because of no x86, there would be no more OSX stability.

I wasnt reffering to my opinions as facts. I had some facts stated, but my opinions were not. Of course I believe they are, but they are only my opinions, so to you they may not be.
