Timan, I can forsee so many issues with that idea.
It would work great in a perfect world, but this place is far from that.
The mods you have do a great job. Granted nobody can be everywhere everytime, but they do a fantastic job regardless.
I'm on a few boards where mods are assigned to particular sub forums to keep things managable for them, so that may be something to think about.

You know I was thinking of using the rep system here, members with (very high) rep could get some mod powers... Basically people pick the people they want to have DE POWERS OF DE FORUMS!

The priveledge system already exists in the software for these boards. It's not like anything is becoming crazy complicated. Just a few people get a few check marks next to their user name. It's certainly more easy than automatically adding people based on "points" or something.
Yeah, I know how vB works, I didn't mean it in that anyway. The "rules" are already complicated and adding more moderators will cause more conflict.
The rules are pretty simple. If you do something that's a small infraction and you're new, you might get nudged in the right direction with a wink. If you're experienced, you might get edited and a PM. If you do something that has people pressing the report button, flaming, etc., you get suspended/locked/etc.
It's basic common courtesy. If you do something that you honestly see no problem in and no one else does, you're okay. If more than one person sees an issue, or you are deliberately provoking others, you need a good spanking.
See, it's started already and it hasn't even happened yet. That's why this is a bad idea.

I know we both have had our share of spats with mods and other members. That isn't for this discussion though. Maybe for AIM.
