Custom User Titles

Admins and Mods have badges, not the titles. Everyone has titles, click the name and click View Public Profile. It's underneath the name.

Badges... Titles... whatever, more things to stroke ones ego. Admins and Mods should have them to designate who does what... the rest of us are "Members".

Join date and post count are not really necessary either.

...are they that special?

Hell yea they are... they can ban yer butt if you're not careful. :P

Lemme just send a bug, huge enormous wink to Paralex - you hear what rjohnstone says ;):D

#381024

It was a rhetorical question and why would I get banned for it?

#381044

I wanna remove avatars :(

#381078

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

#381081

I know it was... we were teasing you.

I wanna remove avatars :(

Hmmm... that would be interesting.

#381083

I wanna remove avatars :(

But then you would be deprived of my oh-so-smooth whiskers!

#381084

96x96 avatars maybe?

#381086

96x96 avatars maybe?

Sounds good to me. ;)

Maybe NC will pop in and add another poll for that? :P

#381096

i think avatars should be shrunk to 32x32 or 48x48..

#381105

Those are dA sizes. Oh may I ask, why the option of deleting something for the user title? Can't you just add it into the template?

#381113

Cause, the side of the postbit is tall enough, specially when a post content is 1 line of text like this one.

#381118

Remove signatures.... :D

Okay seriously, Join Date and Posts are two important statistics I use when judging a member. If it's a new person doing something stupid, I try to help them out. The same applies to a new member with releases, good or bad. If the member is a "lurker," I alter my response accordingly. The same applies for a "spammer" or an experienced member. It sounds wrong, but I'm far more likely to be nice to the complete new user with 3 posts than the person with 400.

Avatars should either be reduced or sigs should be eliminated. The load times become obscene from time to time because of signatures AND large avatars. Removing the signatures gives Unbe more time for fresh Serbian air anyways. Either cut the avatars to 96 or (gasp) 80 or eliminate the signatures.

Custom user titles are a complete waste. If you really really need one, add it to your sig, avatar, or to the end of your messages ("/aviel", "/Lou").

#381121

I agree with gnomexp on removing the "/Lou, /aviel" at the end of messages, it's a bit egocentric in my opinion

#381127

Removing signatures would solve nothing.

Edit: Here's an idea. Make a rollover link on our usernames so that we can check the join date, post count, status, etc. Just an idea.

#381130

I would say remove da status. Who needs it anyway?!!

#381135

Join date is kind of useless also.

Actually they would, I've had sigs off for the longest time, and pages load so much quicker. You guys need to realize if the person in the first post has a sig that is on a ****ty hosting provider and takes ages to load, it will prevent the rest of the page from loading, ( at least in retarded safari ).

I'm up for avatar reduction or sig removal. I'll let you guys pick which you want over all.

#381148

I second the idea of a rollover with more specific info like postcount and join date. Frees up postbit space and makes room for usertitles. Also, why not change the Status to an image next to the username? Like an iChat status orb.

#381152

I rely somewhat heavily on Post Count and Join Date. Status doesn't make much difference to me, and I don't know how much "clickage" the messenger icons get.

Rollover idea does sound interesting, but if push came to shove, I would remove either the status or chat icons to make room for the user title.

@NC: How come join date is important to you? In my opinion, the status is important to see if someone is online is available for a PM or IM.

#381156

Timmie, whatever you do, please don't remove Posts count and Join date. Like somebody has pointed out, it helps me know whether the poster is a n0oob or not.

#381157

Paralex, I don't know, but in the years I've spent here, I've never once glanced at the status feature. Personally, I think it can be relegated to a rollover or the Member Profile section. I suppose it might help in threads with constant traffic...

I use join date and number of posts together to create a "user status." For example, if a user has 3 posts but they joined in December '03, I'd treat them as a lurker instead of a new member. Other than that, I guess it's not too crucial!

True, I can tell everyone in this thread but rjohnstone and myself are nevvbies. (sarcasm of course)

But in all honesty, Avatars are huge, 128x128 (OSX's icon size or not), is waaay to big to have a little picture represent your account.

As for the msn/aim/yim/icq icons. Can be useful, I can click the msn icon under someone's name and get their msn address in seconds.

Nancy I can always display that information for moderators only, so tbh anything could be removed or added for certain user groups.
