PantherXP is dying! Please Help!
A few things to think about:
Before you start coding again find out what people want Do they want a dock, finder, theme or something else? Are you still wanting PXP to replace the Windows Shell? If so you are going to have to deal with device drivers and proceses yourself. Are you wanting a complete login system that is secure? Or just something to cover up Windows? Are you wanting to use XML for skinning or just an INI file? Or would you like to use a Theme package file? Maybe it would benifit you to purchess a Theme Package. It would save bundles of time trying to code your own skin manager. I know that you are wanting to keep the opensource and all, but think about this. Have two version of the shell. One that is opensource and free, and one that offers more features that you can sell for a very small fee. Maybe take up a collection here on AquaSoft for the purchess of a theme package.

Well hello, DJ. I've thought about the idea of something like ActiveSkin, but I wanted to do it myself. As for the other things you've mentioned, I've already thought about. By the way, I have an excellent coder working on the dock for PantherXP, for those of you who will choose to use it. As of now, the dock is very smooth, can be set to have a max and min size, and has the white text with black outline and a drop shadow; unfortunately, still no dock background; we're working on this.

I've done some work on the dock. Now has a background that resizes and is translucent, it has much smoother animation, can go all 4 sides of the screen, and it can have minimum and maximum size.
I have got ObjectDock to help us out. They will contrinute a dock to PantherXP. It will have most of the functionality of their free download.If anyone thinnks this is a good idea, then let me know. I will be glad to email Dr.Fire files required to run PXPDock. Again, this is a verion of ObjectDock.

DrFire here is my ASM source for my new control This control will allow you 100% skinning of a form using ActiveSkin skins. This control is fast and reliable. All the code is here. Have fun. I coded the function as close to the real thing as posible.(ActiveSkin) that is.
I set DrFire up with some good hosting. I gave him 4Gig Space, 200GB data transfer 50 static ips, and unlimited pop3. If he ever needs more then I will increase his storage.
DrFire just uploaded his most recent source dump and I took a look at it. And here some things I would do different:
- Use a control array to load icons. You are loading directly on the form. A user will not be able to move them.
- I resized your desktop icons to 64x64 and changed the code to compinsate with the new png sise...it looks alot better that way
- use switches to turn on/off certain aspects of the program eg. /allon /alloff /dockon /dockoff
Off to the side I am going to be working on the Finder. This is the most difficult part of the project. I am not on it full time. Just to fidle with it

Sadly there is nobody to help. It seems that everyone that is interested in the project just wants to be the end-user. DrFire had done good with the selection tool. Although he now needs to code it to recognize if it has selected an object and highlight it if it has. I am going to mess around with the Finder a little bit. I would work full time on it, but I am several project that are work related now.

This can be a really large and popular application. Alot of hard work and team work is all thats needed. People can't expect this application to be released in days or weeks. Im working on settings up DrFire with pantherxp.org. That why he can host an officail forum for PantherXP and provide support and downloads to you guys.

I am working on a dashboard clone that may be put in PantherXP. We are working very hard on the project. I know I keep say coming soon... IT IS COMING! We are working literally day and night on this, to make it be a lot more than just some images and crappy functions.
