New Menu For Object Dock! ;) !

Originally posted by strestout1@Apr 26 2003, 08:06 PM

i've managed to make a few menus already (iapps, office, games, etc) with this, but how do i get the program to open folders? I can make a folder menu but when i click on one of my folders nothing pops up...any ideas on how to do it?

make a link to explorer.exe and then in the arguments field the folder you want

as such

"explorer.exe", "c:\programs"

Skyliner34, You can explain to me step the step how to do for that menu to work, because here, I still didn't get. :unsure::unsure:

Realistically, I don't think there is any other way I can make it more clear on how to install this thing, its pretty straight forward, just follow the steps one by one on page 2 and it works without a problem, if you're dragging the executable to the dock DON'T, just make a shortcut its not that complicated.

thanx ztiworoh i got it to work now...does anyone know if it's possible to do submenus with this thing??

#22989

@Ender:

The network path thing works fine for me, all I did was set up the program as C:\Windows\Explorer.exe and then the arguments as the network address, my school is on a large one so I tried it by using my ip "\\123.456.789.10" in quotations so the line in the menu bar if thats what you're going for should read

Network Address = "I", "network.png", "C:\Windows\Explorer.exe", ""\\ip address""

Atleast that's what I tried and it worked fine, let me know if it worked for you.

Ok, here's how I got it to work for custom menus:

extract all the files with pathnames to the object dock directory, then copy the kkmenu.exe, kkmenu.ini and the aqua png file to the actual objectdock directory (they should be in the objectdock\menu directory)

Open up the kkmenu.ini file, and delete everything after the first block of text, ie: everything after, and including the [MS office] line.

Enter the menu name in square brackets where [ms office] was - eg: [Programs] or [Games]

Then type the following for each item you want on the menu:

Program name = "I","icon you want to use.png","drive:\folder\program name.exe",""

For example:

[Games]

Solitaire = "I","cards.png","C:\windows\system32\sol.exe",""

then right click on the kkmenu.exe file, and goto create shortcut.

Drag the shortcut to where you want it on the OD, then right click on the new image it just made for you. Set the display name to Games, and in the arguements box type Games. set the icon you want and go OK

left clicking on the new icon should bring up a menu with Solitaire on

to add a different menu, just change Games to Programs or whatever you want to call the menu

HTH!

Couple of things;

For instance menu works as good as "menu" in the arguments of the dock item properties.

Why it didn't work at first for me; I copied the original Word = "I","word_rainbow2003.png","c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE","" and changed it to my needs. Still didn't work. This is why; "I" in the original ini file is written as a big i, not the small l as needed to make it work correctly.

I noticed a bug;

Quit objectdock and load it again (also happens on (re)boot), go to a menu on the dock, click it and in my case I get a Kk Menu Error reading Could not load image: Kk Menu Aqua.png. After re-affirming the location of the KkMenu.exe in the dock item properties everything is okay again. Anyone noticed this too?

Disregard the bug thing; I had it set up somewhat differently. Using the made KkMenu.exe shortcut (KkMenu.lnk) as link on the dock fixed that.

Darnit... disregard the why it didn't work thing as well. Both "I" and "l" work. Using KkMenu.lnk probably fixed that too. The menu vs. "menu" is still good though.

Ok, I got the menu working, and i evened the spacing out (its not double spaced anymore) but there are a couple of unmac like effects:

1. The Highled bar (the blue thingi when you rollover) doesn't stretch totally across the menu, it only sits in the menu

2. The menu doesn't have sub menus nor does it seem to have the ability of showing icons on the right instead of the left.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

This is what mine looks like

1. Highlight bar, not possible the image that becomes the highlight bar is only allowed to take up a said amount of space, until someone figures out exactly how the metrics work its not possible, frankly I don't care I like it to sit in the middle like that so I'm not changing it.

2. Sub menus another not possible, you can have them if you're really desparate by making a link to kk menu within the menu but you have to click it to make it work, this program does not allow for opening of sub-menus by the method of rollovers.

@Miqx: I tried to edit the ini file as you suggested but that way what that menu item does is to open \\Ender (which is me in the network) and not the workgroup with all the users.

Thanx anyway.

A brushed skin like iceman's jaguar visual style would be nice... ;)

Skyliner, your Menu instructions helped 100%, thanks alot and great work!

One question, I notice alot of you have the Trashcan in the dock after a separator. How the heck are you guys able to put it after a separator?

#23554

No Problem H4rM ;)

Only Mobydock and Yz Dock can have a trash can after the seperator.

Ok couple of things, has anyone noticed that the default font is Tahoma, wouldnt it look better with Lucida Grande? Also, is there a way to make the shadow less "rigid" looking. Make it look more like the shadows cast from YZ shadow as an example?

Yeah, it's very nice :D

The shadows look rigid because of the app, in Photoshop their smooth, but the menu thing make it rigid :lol: ).

this is great and the tutorial is excellant even I understood it ..and a brushed icemans theme would be great

#25593

hi, i tried to move the arrow over using the metrics values that were listed in this thread, but it only moved it slightly off center and now looks a little odd. how can i move it even more to the left?

#26420

One question,

when I click on the icon in the dock it tells me...see the capture

WHY?????????????

#26499

looks sweet! i like the softer shadows. :D

just one thing. it seems a little weird to have shadows on all 4 sides, because you'd normally just have shadows on, say, the right side and the bottom.

but yeah, i like it! :own:
