Just a quick post to everyone. Yes, iTunes Skin Creator and iTunes Skin Manager are still being finished and will be released soon. There have been setbacks due to schedule delays and just the sheer amount of programming time available as well as the magnitude of the stuff that needs to get done even before this release. The release will be soon and I apologize for keeping everyone waiting.
Don't worry tho, they will be release and released very soon. Both programs are fully functional and what simply awaits is the registration process implementation, website frontends as well as backends so as you can see I have my hands full. Again, bear with me and soon you will have the ability to skin iTunes

Just an aside, is it possible to change the minimise button to instead switch to mini mode. I know localhost's sidekick does this but it would great to be able to have the option using the skinner (buttons on the right).

I know that there has been alot of deliberation over the amount that I am going to charge or should charge for iTunes Skin Manager. I have already made up my mind and the amount is going to be $3.00 not $1.00 as you had originally thought.
I know that it's hard to find out exactly how much I'm charging because of all the posts and mind changing goin on in this particular thread so thats why I'm simply making it clear.
Another thing, iTunes Skin Manager and iTunes Skin Creator do not provide additional functionality to iTunes like a plug-in would. The programs I am releasing are in no way a plug-in of any sort. iTunes Sidekick and localhosts Multi-Plugin are of course plug-in that offer additional functionality.
I just want to make things clear. iTunes Skin Manager and iTunes Skin Creator only "skin" iTunes and thats it. It doesn't overlay images on-top of iTunes, it doesn't change images that are in memory on the fly. It actually patches in new images so that when iTunes loads up it doesn't see any difference and loads up the new images, thus skinning iTunes.. You end up with the exact same performance, memory usage and functionality, just a new look

you can still access the site at http://www.runasoft.net/iTunes but the subdomain is easier to type and it's not case sensitive.
Ooh, and no, iTunes Skin Manager and iTunes Skin Creator are NOT yet released. The site isn't completely done either so if something doesn't work then you know why..

I think you should make a 30 day trial, or a stripped version, with maybe only 2 skin choices for people who cant pay, or are not sure what they are buying. Like a trial version I know you've worked really hard, so I'm not saying anything about that. Thanks for your contrubution in the world of skinning =)

There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't consider allowing a Trial/Stripped version of my program. The fact of the matter is, no matter how much protection I slap on the Trial Version, it will still be cracked. I know how to crack programs and I know the techniques used because well, I've done my fair share of cracking in the past.
I know that if I offer up a Trial Version, the check routine used to validate the time passed will simply be bypassed. I know that if I use a "stripped" version that allows only 2 skin choices, those 2 choices through a little editing can be changed to allow even more.
Also, I don't see how somebody cannot afford $3.00. If you have a computer, access to the internet and use iTunes, I'm pretty sure you can afford $3.00. Like I've said before, most people have this sitting in there living room couch. Think about it.. How much exactly is $3.00 to americans. A pack of smokes? A 20oz coke and a bag of chips?
Now, if it's a problem with Paypal, I will be offering other payment methods after the initial release. If it's a problem with "what am I getting", I am going to create a Flash based demo where it will simply show the potential buyer how the program works and what exactly it will do.
I appreciate your input but unfortunately, a trial/stripped version is out of the question.

This current release of iTunes Skin Creator is not skinnable. Unfortunately, I did not really have time to include "extra" features such as this. You can be assured tho that these are not the last versions of iTunes Skin Creator or iTunes Skin Manager.
New versions will be created a released. Everyone who purchases iTunes Skin Manager will receive the updates for free iTunes Skin Creator will always be free of course.
I want to see how the initial release of both programs is going to be accepted by the community and how they work across all different types of systems. I know there will be bugs, it's just a fact of programming. No matter how careful you are, there will always be something.
I just hope that everyone who purchases iTunes Skin Manager enjoys the software and that this thing becomes as big as I want to be. But I don't know how many people actually want to skin iTunes out there. I know that there have been millions upon millions of downloads of the iTunes software but how many of those millions actually want to skin iTunes ? hehe...
Maybe it will even bring in people who do not use iTunes simply due to it's skin. Because honestly, I feel it is one of the best audio managers/players out.
Right now, I'm out of town at the in-laws again but I will be home later today where I will begin the finishing touches on both programs and the website.. I'm looking at about 2 more days of actual programming time not counting today and then boy oh boy, it's time for release day ... I know I've esitmated this before but I'm really hoping that this time I'm calculating everything correctly
I also may have to raise the price of iTunes Skin Manager to $3.50 instead of just $3.00. This is due to paypal and there outrageous prices. I also need to compensate for the simple fact that the amount of bandwidth my server allows me may not be enough for the amount of traffic that will be coming to itunes.runasoft.net.

And once you pay, does that include updates. AND, is there an atomatic updatering, meanign when you start the program it checks, or would we need to log into the site and check.

Just thought I would let everyone know that iTunes Skin Manager and iTunes Skin Creator are finally done. All of the website stuff is done as well. Basically what I'm saying is that I am ready for release 02/10/05 will be the release date. Tomorrow morning

It seems like the holy grail of iTunes skinning, but like someone else said, I don't like the thought of dropping any money on something before I know if it even works properly, much less on my specific system. I'll wait and see what people have to say about it before I go through with this.
You should really consider making a time-based or feature-limited trial version. I know it's only $3.50, but that's still wasted money if it doesn't work the way I want, you know?

I understand your concern, still, I will not be releasing a time based or feature limited trial version. Aqua-Soft is going to be doing a great review on iTunes Skin Manager. I believe alot of people respect Aqua-Soft's opinion on something and nightcrawler has already received iTunes Skin Manager and on Sat or Sun, the review will be posted and the programs will be released.
