iTunes Skinner - 01-15-05

Beginner skin question: I am looking for a way to place some type of control on the itunes interface to launch an external application. Would this be possible with the skin creator? Or does the skin creater simply allow you to change the look of existing controls.

thanks,

wagner

well i've got iTunes skinned as well. Multi-Plugin 0.6 will be released pretty soon, and for free (but donations would be welcome ;) )

btw, runasoft, those QTR files are not universal. Apple changed the images there even from 4.7 to 4.7.1.

I'd suggest not charging people to use it initially, but allow a certain fixed period evaluation so that they know what they are getting. In a way, you'll be making your program more available for those who are interested.

I know that QTR files are not universal. The way that I have developed my skin creator does make them somewhat universal. I believe that you are skinning iTunes by changing the memory on the fly no ? That causes system slow downs because your subclassing, catching the messages and changes the bitmaps. My method does not cause any problems like that.

We'll see how things are to be played out.

i don't use itunes, but just wanted to congratulate you on a great job with this... some good work looks to have come from this.

Well, iTunes Skin Creator is now officially complete and packaged. Final size with setup is less than 800KB.

Everybody who installs this must have iTunes v4.7.0.42, QuickTime (Any Version) and the VB6 Runtime files (most people have these already).

Anyhow, I have selected 1 person who will be the first to receive iTunes Skin Creator v0.0.1. I will not mention who at this time but don't worry, all of you who are anxious to get your hands on this will be able to do so in just a couple of days.

iTunes is currently at v4.7.1. Will that create any issues with what you have got for you app? Has it been tested?

Well, Downloaded the new iTunes, installed it and low and behold, iTunes Skin Creator is still fully compatible :) hehe..

Everytime a new version of iTunes is released, a new skin will have to be created to be compatible and the Skin Developers will need to provide this skin and update thier iTunes Skin Creator with a very small (less than 500KB) update. The program will still be backwards compatible with older versions of project files so not to worry :)

So in other words, the new version of iTunes has posed NO problems whatsoever for me or iTunes Skin Creator :)

Hey, this looks great. Would we be able to see some screenshots of what iTunes looks like skinned with your program?

#248826

Sure, here is a very basic and pretty darn UGLY skin LOL.

I know the color scheme doesn't go together but it's just to show you the different aspects of iTunes being skinned :)

There you go. I have a great skinner working on creating some very nice skins for iTunes. I will post some screenshots when he is done.

Do you think with a little genius on our part, we can get it looking like the mac counterparts?

Also can we customize the little icons for the playlists and stuff also?

I forgot to say that it looks good to me ;) I'm not that picky on looks :P

#248854

Just out of interest do you know if it works with the toolbar mod? I realise this doesn't skin the mod but does it cause any significant problem with it?

Yes you can customize every image in iTunes with my program.

Hopefully, with the skinners genius minds we can get it looking like the mac counterparts.

Skinning of iTunes is a bit limited but there are ways around everything except for 1 major thing 1 and thats the Gradient overlay of the main Tiled Background image.. I am determined to crack this gradient thing tho and I'm sure if I don't, someone will. I hear localhost is doing some great things as well so we will soon see.

I'm not familiar with what toolbar mod you are speaking of... iTunes Skin Creator will skin iTunes. this includes the Music Store, Equalizer and Main window etc...

EDIT:

Sorry, I know what ToolBar you are talking about now. I hadn't noticed this before and I will definetly look into this..

Runasoft, I wanted to say that you are a master at this lol. I always wanted iTunes skinned, and finally I can!! xD;

Thanks alot, and good luck in the future!

Sorry I haven't updated lately, been pretty busy with iTunes Skin Manager and iTunes Skin Creator. I had found a little bug in iTunes Skin Creator which I wasn't planning on fixing until the initial release but I decided to go ahead and fix it anyways.

I have some really great surprises coming up and some really exciting skins to be release designed and created by bzeitler. :)

I have a new website which was created by wizard as well.

I want to thank both of these guys as I've already done in private but I'd like to to do it publicly as well. Thanx guys..

And, here's another screenshot of iTunes for PC with an AQUA type skin applied. Granted, it's not done and there are things that need to be changed such as the titlebar, it looks funny.. hehe

There you all go... I have a release date of hopefully Monday or Tuesday. Remember, the programming aspect of it is pretty much all finished. Now I have to go about setting up the Members portion of the website, paypal integration, download/developer pages and make a little tutorial for skin designers and probably even skin manager users..

ohhhhh, cant wait... looks cool.... I want my iTunes to look like the mac's.. weee... hehe

Wow. I can finally have an iTunes skinned to match my Panther VS without the awful brushed look. Definitely looking forward to this. As long as the Manager is under $10 I plan on being a definite buyer.

The iTunes Skin Creator will be free to developers.

iTunes Skin Manager will be USD($3.00) payable only via Paypal but a few days after release, it will be paypal and Money Order,

I think this is a reasonable price and affordable for pretty much anyone.
