Avedesk 1.1 Bug Report

Is anyone having a problem trying to keep the title or caption to remain. After I save the settings, and restart the caption goes back to reading the .exe file instead of the Title or caption I typed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)
In the Desklet properties of folder, drive and shortcut, there is a checkmark called "Automatically update the desklets caption to ...".

Unchecking this will resolve your problem.

Using the search feature would have done this also.

I have a problem reported by aashish13 also:

When explorer crashes and restarts all my desklets are invisible but the Avedesk.exe process is sill there so I have to kill it to restart AveDesk.

Any idea ?

Try to open the AveDesk control panel, access the desklets properties "Appearance" tab and turn "Style" from "Always-On-Bottom" to "Normal Window" and back.

Possibly the newly created desktop window got in front of the desklets.

Thank You herd !

This one helped. Now I have to find the shell extension responsible for crashing explorer.... ;-)

Hmmm, quite strange that nobody reported the following problem yet -- maybe only I have it or I am blind not seeing it ?!

When dragging files with blanks in the filename onto (for instance) an avedesk shortcut for BSPlayer (and other media players) the program is launched but doesn't find the file. It seems that avedesk just uses the first part of the filename instead of replacing the whole name. Other file work fine though...

If the shortcut.dll would take the whole filename as argument the problem should easily be fixed.

Best,

Rince

I'm using sysstats with avedesk1.1 and use it to add a desktop calender... however it seems to always be repositioned on avedesk restart with the X & Y co-orders used the rong way round, so the calener is always a ways off the screen.

Cheers!

I am having the same problem too !! any ideas u guys ?

thanks :)

#224785

Avedesk does not updates the folder's files size, the file count and the dir count in the name of folder desklet when - for xample - i delete or move some files from that folder or copy a file into that folder. It only updates when i try to change caption. why?

i am having a problem with avetunes where only some of the skins are loading. I've downloaded the version 2.5 dll several times, closed and restarted avedesk, and the problem is still there. Additionally, with iTunes 4.7 i can see the song in the avetunes desklet, but if i try and go forward or back with a song it restarts the current playing song.

#225435

nevermind! I fixed the problem with the song, i had my iTunes set to repeat...lol. Okay, the skinning problem is still there though...any help would be greatly appreciated =D

Hi, new to the board and program, but I think that there is a bug as follows:

The recycle bin desklet does not register files from all partitions, only ones from the windows partition.

ex:

I delete file from partition F:/

recycle desklet still appears empty, and no action taken when right click on desklet and choose 'empty recycle bin'.

however, if i click on the desklet and get into the recycle bin itself, selecting 'empty recycle bin' clears files from all partitions.

similarly, if i delete some files from f:/ or g:/ and a couple from the windows partition, c:/, then right clicking on the desklet and emptying the bin that way clears away only the files that were from c:/

Is this a known issue?

Cheers,

Damir

Thanks dude. it finally works :)

keep up the good work

I've been using Avedesk for a long time now and I haven't noticed it until recently, so I can't say with 100% certainty whether it's a recent phenomenon or if it's been there all the time but ... Avedesk uses no less than 90% of my CPU which is outrageous! Any ideas why this could be, and how to alleviate the problem? I don't even have too many desklets ... just 2 folder shortcuts, a multimeter e-mail checker, a systats clock, an ftp desklet, and a notes desklet. I love Avedesk too much for it to be interfering with my computer's ability to run ... please help! Thanks in advance.

I can only say that try to disable plugins one by one, and see when does the cpu usage goes down. I used avedesk 1.1 on my 600 mhz computer and i had no speed problems with a few shortcuts, a note and an ftp desklet. i only stopped it because of a bug i mentioned in this thread before (does anyone can help me??)

..., a multimeter e-mail checker, ...

This thing seems to have worked for ages and died out of a sudden - possibly by a recent Windows Update "bugfix" both on 2000/XP...

The research continues.

Are you saying that this simply doesn't work anymore? Because it works on my computer ... Or are you saying that this is most likely what's contributing to the astronomical CPU usage? In any case I'm going to temporarily disable it and see what happens. Thanks all for your suggestions!

EDIT: Killing the multimeter e-mail checker made Avedesk stabilize at around 45-50% CPU, which is better but still seems abnormally high to me. But how strange is it to note that when I run Firefox, Avedesk zooms back up to approximately 90%? Argh ... and THEN, Avedesk crashed, and when I restarted it WITH the multimeter desklet and WITH Firefox already running, it uses a maximum of 1% CPU. What in the world is going on?!

THE GOOD

My observation is that Multimeter + e-mail checker simply doesn't work since I last tried it about end of April this year. The only thing that happened in between was the AveDesk upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1 - I'd remember an uproar if it was that - and the usual lot of wear and tear a Windows user endures when he's not formatting his drive every month.

Its possible, that during some Windows Update, Microsoft closed a security hole and BANG third party apps that aren't somehow authorized can't open connections to POP3 mail servers.

Its logical for Microsoft to do this because the WinBlast worm propagates itself by a mail client of its own using the same Windows functionality that our innocent e-mail checker here is utilizing.

I know Andreas for his superb coding skills but he's not walking on water - and maybe - his code falls into an endless loop of try/fail since the windows patch.

THE BAD

There is admittedly something spooky about FireFox when it's used on the same desktop with screen gadgets - their so called "Layered Windows" interfere with DirectDraw/DirectX/OpenGL enabled applications of which FireFox is one - especially when the GFX card drivers are at an early beta stage or too dated - then it is likely that you'll have the same problems with the pairings FireFox + Konfabulator, WinDVD + Kapsules, Doom 3 + ObjectDock and so on.

This is a known hardware/driver issue with various makes and models and can thus have the widest variety of glitches that would span yours in.

THE UGLY

If the error lies somewhere in AveDesk, MultiMeter or email-checker, you'll have to wait AveDesk 1.2, MultiMeter 0.4 (MAPI!) since email-checker isn't developed anymore AFAIK.

I have the same problem.

@MDZ61384: Can you try the folder desklet in the zip... it's a quick fix. It only retrieves the files/folder info if it's necessary - thought I fixed that a while ago, apparently, I didn't - and it parses the sublabel in a different thread now, so AveDesk won't lock up.

Tried this new folder.dll. I closed avedesk, replaced the old folder.dll with above folder.dll. Restarted avedesk. Now avedesk tray icon appears, but that's it. I don't get any desklets on my desktop. It seems that the new folder.dll is trying to access the folder I have assigned to, but fails. Thus stopping other desklets from loading. At this point my only option is to kill avedesk manualy. Hope this gets sorted out.

Well, the new folder.dll crashes avedesk shortly...

#242428

All DEVs, can any of you people check this out, Create a new user and start AveDesk, anything screwed up in SysStat?? is this Ave Prob or SysStat's?

#244609

Does anyone have any idea why avedesk shows so many page faults in the windows task manager. Does it mean that anything is wrong with the program or it should just be ignored.

#248953

Ignore it.. GDI+ causes it mainly.
