iFido,
remove all your desklets from AveDesk and compare boot times by adding them
back one by one. I guess you either use an old version of some iTunes widget that
loads iTunes on startup (now that takes long), or some network stuff like that
weather widget that tries to download something from the internet on startup.
Also note that XP fakes its boot speed by showing the desktop before its
actually ready for networking and real usage, and since AveDesk triggers
its desklets to do what they gotta do one by one, it may be simply the wrong
place to complain on the issue...

Is there a way to make the desklet label spread onto multiple lines? Just that if I type in a long name it just goes in one line, which looks untidy 
For people with multiple monitor problems - try installing Ultramon - it's great for multiple monitor users.

me too...
but when I turn off Kaspersky at startup everything going fast as normal.
So I suspect the Anti Virus proggie runs their routine on avedesk too tight.

If the desklet is setting the label itself, it can use newline characters in it and
AveDesk will happily break the label into several lines, if the label height
is large enough.
Since the label is saved in a single line ini file, you can't alter it to be multiple
lines, I'm afraid.
But if you set the label height accordingly, AveDesk will break the lines on word
boundaries, e.g. spaces and tabs and failing that, in the middle of a word.
Multiline labels look best if you set the label alignment to left.

I have the same problem barok has. Desklets are only working when i opened there configure dialog before. This only happens when style is set to "Desktop Icon". In "always on bottom" mode all desklets react immediatly. All this happend on WinXP SP1.
The "always on bottom" style solves the problem but it has some drawbacks: Desklets are hidden when "show desktop" is clicked...
First of all to excellent work to both Andreas & Herd, and to my colleague from Finland, LoofyGun was quite correct as this version has eliminated the high mem usage of AveDesk1...

Apologies for reporting this in a 'bug thread', but I have 2 desklets running 1-HD & 1-Shortcut, and for the life of me, I can not find the option for the 'single-click' or the above as mentioned by Seph...
As I have my entire system set-up for 'single-click'...
Can someone kindly direct me on how to find/do this...?

First off, great application Andreas (and herd!). I am really loving it.
About a week ago, I finally was able to give AveDesk a run. I have a pretty simple configuration...7 links to folders at the bottom of my screen. They are all 64*64px in size and use icons I have (GANT). Regardless, heres my problem:
Originally, I just wanted each icon to monitor its respected folders number of files and size, however once i did that, my windows explorer slowed down dramatically. It wasn't that it took 10 minutes for the icons to appear on my desktop (they have to each calculate a number of files, so I guess maybe I can understand this?), but EVERYTHING slowed down. I would try to create new folders and they would take at least a minute, if not 2 or more, to appear. During the time AveDesk was calculating the numbers of files and folders, I could not access the AveDesk taskbar entry at all, and ObjectBar seemed to be slow, sluggish, or just plain freeze. I have a 3.0 GHz machine and a 128 MB video card, I was not expecting calculation to take so long. I like my sub-labels as they give me awesome information about each of the 7 folders I am monitoring at the bottom of my screen, but since explorer slowed down to a crawl, I had to take the labels off. Now AveDesk boots in about a minute...maybe more, and explorer seems to be less sluggish. I don't know if this is a bug, but it seemed like one, so I thought I'd share. Any insights would be much appreciated
Oh, and just wanted to also mention this bug. If you completely remove all characters from a Sublabel, when the sublabel is off, the entire label will not show up. I have my main labels set to on, but to display on mouseover. I removed everything from the sub-label box and hit apply, and my normal label dissapeared. I have normal labels set to show on mouse-over only...nothing came up on mouseover. The only time the label returned is when I put a period in the sublabel box. After hitting apply, the main label was able to display again.
I don't know if I explained that right, but I tried! 
Well, I tried to reproduce your prb#1 by making a folder watch my entire drive.
Yes, AveDesk freezes for minutes while the folder desklet recurses into the drive.
Guess that 7 of that sort would lock my machine too. Perhaps watch smaller
folders? And for locking enire Explorer - not seen here, but I run on a dual. Maybe
you can enable / disable the 'browsing in new process' bit of Explorer?
I don't really get prb#2: You can't remove characters from a sublabel unless
the desklet allows you so. (Guess you relate to the Folder desklet). Could
not be reproduced here.
hey herd...thanks for your response. I've also been wanting to tell you for some time that I really admire all of the posts I read of yours. I admire your incredible knowledge. so from a budding Computer Science student to a seasoned professional, thank you for showing me why I love computers every time I come here.
with that said, I must admit I forgot to mention that I was using 7 folder desklets in my AveDesk config. what beats me though is that explorer would slow down noticeably even after each of the folders was calculated and everything had stopped freezing. (hence the taking so long to do anything). now that I have removed the sublabel from appearing, things seem much much quicker.
the reason why I tried to remove the text in the sublabel is becuase i (erronousely at the time) though that avedesk calculated the sublabel even if I had turned it off. at the time, I still noticed a slowdown in explorer, and thought that maybe avedesk looked to where the sublabel configuration was and read that information, so just in case I turned it on, it would take less time to calculate. (not even sure if that made sense but I tried! haha). so I removed everything from the sublabel configuration just in case and hit apply. what I got as a result was neither label beign shown if I moused over the icon. after putting some character in the sublabel configuration box, the main label re-appeared.
hope this made sense. and thanks for answering my question. I do wish it would take less long to calculate my folders and didn't cause explorer to slow...I liked my statistics! I will try the "enable explorer in separate processes" when I get home to my computer and will let you know of the results.

@MDZ61384: Can you try the folder desklet in the zip... it's a quick fix. It only retrieves the files/folder info if it's necessary - thought I fixed that a while ago, apparently, I didn't - and it parses the sublabel in a different thread now, so AveDesk won't lock up.

Multi-monitor issues abound!
My primary monitor is on the right of my secondary; every time I load AveDesk, I have to reset the position of my icons. It seems to remember the total pixels starting from the left side of my secondary monitor when I shut it down, and count that many pixels from the left side of my primary monitor when I fire it back up. Other times, it just resets the icons' positions at 0 of the primary monitor, and when I hit "preferences" it reacts and goes to where it should.
Regardless, though, AveDesk is the best software evar! GO AVE!
Just to things.. Avefocus seems to work only on the primary monitor, and it's a bit too dark imho Not really a bug report, but how about adding a move file option instead of copy to the folder widget?

I encountered several problems with AVEDESK:
1. Some partition labels (disks) return on startup the label no disk. Have to fix that everytime..
2. SystStatsCom.dll is sometimes not found by Avedesk. Crashes the whole Desk settings.
2. when i play Games with a other resolution My SysStats Desklets Stay in place as they shall. The Disk items vanish from the sreen and dont return.
I've found an issue with the Smooth Magnification effect. After applying it and restarting AveDesk 1.1 I find the icons that use this effect have changed sizes (usually to 80x80 or 120x120) and have shifted position a few pixels, even if the movement is locked.
i think there should be a bug sub forum.
my shortcut desklets doesn't accept change of label,
they ever display the filename of the shortcut.

I've had my secondary monitor disabled for some time, when i enabled it i could still se all my widgets, but i cant select them (xept for avetunes, and when i drag that it temporarily jumps halfway across the screen and flickers).
Wait... that only happend when i had the secondary display to the left, moved it to the right and it worked fine, Nevermind

I could spent an Matrox G450 to AndreasV to hunt down these bugs.
today, first time i used avedesk
i have 2 drive desklets and the ftpdrop on desktop, wenn i open a new explorer window the folders flicker (in window mode only). when i close avedesk it dont flicker.
anyone know that bug
BUG: Ok, I've found another bug. The most recent release of iTunes desklet, with the slide out album art/ info, takes iTunes memory usage from @15,000-18,000k to 40,000k-58,000k!
It's deeper than just memory usage as well - it is causing a huge delay (3-4seconds) in Windows Explorer response time. Something is interupting/ hooking into Explorer causing this delay. Not even AutoCAD, Photoshop, Acrobat, Firebird and a few other apps running at the same time causes a delay in Explorer. Weird.
So... as much as I love album art, if anyone can pack up the original iTunes for me Id like to use that until AndreasV has time to address this.

@3muri: AveFocus will be integrated in AveDesk from 1.2. You can hold the shiftkey/altkey to switch between copy/move the file just as you can do in explorer.
@Angryman: you are probably having sysstatscom.dll in the wrong folder. please check the SysStats forum for more information.
@deadzombie (1): maginification effect, I pass that one too Al 
@xpi: Check the Label Format tag, it's presented as an option there.
@Duke: unknown bug, failed to reproduce it unfortunately. I will check it in the next update round for the desklets.

I'm using sysstats with avedesk1.1 and use it to add a desktop calender... however it seems to always be repositioned on avedesk restart with the X & Y co-orders used the rong way round, so the calener is always a ways off the screen.

Is anyone having a problem trying to keep the title or caption to remain. After I save the settings, and restart the caption goes back to reading the .exe file instead of the Title or caption I typed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
