One more reason why I love ya Duckie!

reason # 1 why it's retarded to have comments in a desktop thread:

scrolling thru 35 posts asking

"Can I have your desktop wallpaper?"

"Can you post your desktop wallpaper?"

"Can you share your desktop wallpaper?"

"Where can i get your desktop wallpaper?"

"I love your desktop wallpaper!"

"Can I have your icons?"

"Can you post your icons?"

"Can you share your icons?"

"Where can i get your icons?"

"I love your icons!"

"Can I have your skin?"

"Can you post your skin?"

"Can you share your skin?"

"Where can i get your skin?"

"I love your skin!"

"skin!"

Whereas a simple PM to the person who posted it would answer the question and keep redundancy and such out of a perfectly good thread.

It isnt about being bothered, it's about courtesy. Clutter confuses, it is proven. Therefore, the other side of the spectrum would be cleanliness, which is less confusing to the eye and mind and more can be accomplished and derived from the source.

I disagree with you Duckie. Is it more pointless to post pretty desktop pictures or to provide a visually based thread where people can gain access to skins and resources they never knew about?

I think just plain jane desktops is incredibly pointless. What point is there to have a monthly desktop thread if people cant clutter it up with questions?

The PM system, while it sounds nice, isnt very agreeable. 90% of the time I ask a question through PM it takes either 3-4 days to get a reply or Im not answered at all. In an open thread, where the active community can see my question, anyone with the knowledge to answer can jump right in, and usually does. The monthly desktop thread is the backbone of any customization community.

Keep the desktop threads cluttered with questions, or do away with them I say.

Surely the PM inboxes are too small for loads of "gimme" and "where can I get" PMs; users know that...

Not really.

And especially if people pay attention to them.

The only time I have ever seen a users inbox overflow was a few select developers and that's it.

Duckie, this is an internet website. I'm sorry you feel that it's messy but I just can't see it. If a user gets confused in a thread, i think, and this may be harsh, that they shouldnt even be using a computer. All you're doing is scrolling down and goin "Awww, pretty."

Just my 2 cents.

Internet or not, there is still a little thing called decorum and filling up a thread with 'Wow, cool!' just seems like a waste of time to me.

And honestly, it's people like that (who post "GREAT JOB! THANKS!) that "shouldnt even be using a computer.".

At least, until they learn how to be more original and less trite.

You could say I'm being critical or self serving or even that I'm taking it all a bit seriously, but hey...it IS a forum, and this IS a discussion, so that's my 2 cents as well.

You can take it as you like, I dont mind. Free exchange of ideas, whether they be similar of differing, is a key to communication.

Hey, maybe it will lead to me conceding to your points, if they're explained weell enough.

This whole argument, of course, will be moot if/when Tim and I ever get around to installing the "thank user" mod...

Oh, that...

That was ratings, not "thanks"... The difference is that ratings work on a per-member basis, whereas thanks work on a per-post basis...

Maybe?

If that's what they've got, then I guess I do.

#192134

is that where it says something like "7 people have thanked you"... i think ours should say something more original like "7 people would take a bullet for you".

hehe
