Seriously, I see the general chat section at the IPS forums more active than this section of AquaSoft.

Most of the moderators are good. Those that accuse members of lying have some issues, but the rest are good. :6
Updated sig to reflect my love.
You and your Photoshop Tennis, DZ...
For anything arts/arts-creation related, we have the Digital Studio.
That's where you can play Photoshop Tennis/GarageBand football/iMovie Cricket if you so desire.
And I'll say it again - General Discussion allows off-topic posts, but posts like "OMFG im s0o b0r3d tis sc4ri" get deleted, I think, with good reason. And, let's be honest, political/religious topics always end up degrading into that sort of thing, so it's better if we just don't even bother allowing them and save ourselves and the community having to bother reading the flames that're bound to occur. Yes, there are lots of us who can carry out a civil discussion online. It's the overly vocal minority who seem to have oral/pedal diarrhoea who ruin it for the rest of us.

Title was "This Forum Is Dead". Reason for this forum being dead is,
IMHO, the rigidity of its rules.
Politics and Religion are, let me exaggerate, about 60% of what any
grown up would resort to, if he/she was asked to contribute to a
so called "General Discussion".
I still don't get it: OK, its a board, freedom of speech doesn't apply here if you're
responsible as admin for its contents and certainly there is no democracy
involved if you see who admins whom at which tone and which level.
The only one who instinctively balances successfully on the narrow gap between
his 60% and being censored or randomly accused of being too political
is WookieTV: "Who To Blame For Americas Obesity" a 100% political topic
that has escaped deletion or disappearance thanks to Wookies careful selection
of topic and tone.
Not everyone has this instinct or self consciousness and so they don't post at all;
it's that simple.
I don't ask you to turn this forum into a free fire zone, but please allow at least
some politics whilst still flattening extremist outbursts - A topic like "Political
Compass" should remain unattended. This should be a place to discuss
Michale Moore as well as Ronald Reagan, as long as there isn't any "*ism"
involved. You'll get more to moderate but hey, thats always the price for
diversity.
Don't wonder that it remains dark if you continiously blow out any candle
that is lit or threaten anyone that tries it.
Or change the boards title to "Your 2 cents on the 40% we'll allow you to say",
because its current title is an euphemism.
Topic Moved.
This topic now belongs in Comments & Suggestions, I think...

Now, let's see Timmie move it back to General Discussion
.
Seriously, it does fit Comments and Suggestions well just because of the number of comments and suggestions on the GD rules.
So me getting pissed and getting a warning isn't funny in its own messed up way? DAMN! This place must be dead!
this thread does seem to make a-s look a bit schizoid.
@herd.. sign up over at artpolitic, that place needs some more action, and is prime for 'real discussions' because everything seems open season just going buy a few posts over there and the subjectmatter of the art. (though there's some damn kneejerk hippies there)
it could be worse, we could be aquaxp ![]()
i have a pritty bad hangover, should i start a topic about that?
I think the mods are doing too good of a job.
There are little flame wars, and even less bashing on people newer then me.
Maybe thats the reason this place has become rigid? Before you can reply to a flame war the threads already closed?
How did this turn into a thread if the mods are doing their job or not ? lol
I started it to kinda get some more activity here on the site :6
oh come on, big T. we are really not that far, that an admin have to tell people what, how much and where to post.
ur one admin, and i´m f§$%&?ing far away from telling u how to let this thing rolling, but from what i learned in the past from my forum-staff-team-member beeing, a forum is a rollercoaster. no wheel, no gas-pedal and no break. this should not sound like u have no ways to direct the course, but the idea of 100% controll is an illusion.
enjoy the ride and make us enjoy it with u.
just my 2 cents.
peace

just a comment, but most thing posted in general discussion end up in software categories even if you want general ideas and chatting around a software.... and it kills almost instantly any topic. just look at the windows/cross platform/linux topics
it just ended up being trashcans with fancy names
not sure but I think a lot of members did prefer the old layout and the minor remarks about the rules instead of the actual billion of forums with 3 posts and half of em being terminated with topic moved... no follow up.
at least that is what I think.
Whats better? A lot of bad threads or a few good ones.
To be honest, I dont want to come here to talk about Grim's hangover (sorry dude
) or Ave's new goat, Stevie's new CD's or Magbi's new pencil holder. I come here to talk to about Aqua apps, osx inspired apps, and sometimes the artistic side of stuff,

well all is not black or white
there is a middle between few good ones and lot of bad threads.
the average thread is not here to please everyone but to let a community gather around ideas and opinions, not just and only for a unique goal
Here's how it breaks down:
Maintaining an Aqua only board: You're going to get a slow forum, like this one. Taking politics and religion off the forums is fine, but expect a huge slowdown in community growth. Regardless of how upset people can get, Aqua may pull them in, but it wont hold them. The Aqua community moves too slow to keep people chatting on the boards everyday.
Maintaining a community based around Aqua: Aqua pulls the people in, but INTERESTING, non related sub forums keep them active. Sure there are a hundred Photoshop Tennis sites, but not one for THIS community. Maybe I want a match with Seph...do I take the time to track him down on another board, or is a place available for me to call him out here? At the moment I do neither... a place isnt offered and I dont feel like setting up at yet another site, or to try to convince him to do the same.
And yeah, Im a right wing nut that will piss off alot of people in a political forum. But having that forum in an isolated area of the site keeps politics there while offering yet another 'pull' to keep members active. Forums like these work well on Neowin and /. for good reason. They are isolated, have firm but reasonable rules, and whats said in the sub-catagory stays in the sub-catagory.
This was designed first and foremost as an Aqua Community. Aqua itself wont keep a community active on a daily basis. Every option that this community is given to expand its relationship is a GOOD thing, as long as it is done properly.
If the site is too slow, expand whats available to the members. I can gaurantee you'll see people posting more and as a result offering more to the community. :woot:
Superb comments, DZ.
There's not much I can add, save for Photoshop Tennis goes in Digital Studio! :6

I completely agree 100% with that view.
Deadzombie: Look around you. Your brilliant dream has been a reality for a long time.
This is not an aqua-only forum, and it hasn't been for years (never while I was here). So I don't know why you are still complaining. Are some people saying we should go to only-aqua, because I don't see it.
Stop causing trouble when what you want already exists. If you want Photoshop Tennis, start the thread. No one is stopping you.
As for politics, there's no need for them here. We tried it before, and it was too stupid. You remember, it had to be in a separate, passworded forum with a big disclaimer. I allow politics at gooeylinux.org, and every political thread (there have only been a few) has turned into a big mess.
I also didn't call you a liar, I said your entire post was a lie. I have no doubt you are normally honest, but you were flat out wrong, so much so that it earned the term "lies". ![]()
Nothing good has come out of this thread. I'm closing it. If Tim needs to say something else, he can re-open it.
