Nice work! :woot:
[release] Avefontbook
When I start it there are some wierd artifacts that show up...maybe its just the skin?I attached a screen. They are the black lines on the seperators.
Weird stuff, didn't see that one before.
couple of observations too:- the rollup seems to be really choppy compared to your other apps eg AvePreview an AveText... and I'm runnning at 3Ghz and with a ATI 9600XT.
- can the apps start up to select "All Fonts" on default instead of not selection any collections?
The rollup is slow because of the listbox-automatic resizing. I'll change the behaviour of that button to "hide" toolbar in the next update.
-The App will show 'All Fonts' on next update.
I'd like to mention a few things that would make this even more perfect. When dragging a font to a collection, keep the current collection visible instead of the target one.
I tried that and it is easier indeed. In next version.
. Multi-select fonts for Enabling/Disabling, moving to collections or deleting (viewing, too?)
Multiple-select can be done on the fonts. Ofcourse not for viewing.
. Ability to rename collections.
That's a real bugger. When you rename a collection, you rename a physical location on your HD, so I need to update all the fonts inside that collection in the registry. It will be as slow as hell iThink. I'll see what I can do.
Am I the only one who likes the trash can?. Add a minus button instead of the recycle bin
. Title bar shouldn't go transparent for the brushed skin (a per-skin option maybe?)
Skin setting. This can be easily changed in the skin.
. Drag the window not only by titlebar.
Huh
. Add icons to "collections" list items (useless, eye-candy request)
If someone does have some icons (16*16), I'll do that.
Why not make a .cpl file for this fontbook? If so, we can access it in Control panel instead of using the default fontbook(Perhaps, we can't call it as "Fontbook") from windows.
Hmmm, I need to check that.
@wookietv: sorry, I didn't change the default panther skin because I really suck at the graphics-part. Besides that, fontbook is a brushed app. ![]()
I don't know when the next update will be released, because I have to finish a Java project, 2 assembler projects (one in x86asm, one in PPC-asm, confuses me as hell) and another project in C. Some of them actually gets me some money, so.
i really like this application but i have spmething really weird when drag a font everything desapear in objecbar and in nexplorer1.8 am i the only one in this case please help me :byecry:
Drag the window not only by titlebar.
@Ave: I think he means be able to drag the window from any brushed area (like iTunes)
I like the trash can Andreas!
Don't take it away.
Maybe just a smaller image?
/me not trying to stir up controversy.
Being able to drag any part of the brushed area (using the brushed skin) would be nice, instead of just dragging using the title bar. Not a really needed thing, just would be nice.
So far, I really like this program. Thank you once again.

Didn't decide about the minus-button yet, actually. There is no room on the button-panels and I don't have a minus button.
How is this done on mac?
I DO NOT implement move the window by dragging the window, because think it's stupid. :6
I think that the eject icon would be more appropriate as you are removing the fonts not deleting them from the system.

implementing dragging from the window is actually really great, if you can do it.
all the brushed interface apps have it, and i must say, it is wonderful not having to mouse over to the titlebar when you're already moused down near the bottom of the screen or wherever.
as a reference, here's the default-sized fontbook from osx. widgets are pro-plastic themed, the rest is default.
no minus button, so i don't know if / how deleting fonts is handled.

To avoid strokes of user-stupidty, you cannot delete a font from a button, you have to go to edit > remove font ![]()

Sounds like a smart idea.
Are the icons (like in OSX) and the drop down arrows ever going to be added?

but we don't have integration with object bar..... yet
yeah, i was telling ji eun since he didnt know where or how to do that on a Mac ![]()
I might be having a similar problem to those people using ObjectBar and the text is disappearing.
For me it's with the Start Menu.... ALL the text in the Start Menu disappears.
It does come back when I mouse over each item, but only stays while the menu is open.
If I close the start menu then open it the text is gone again.
It happens after I run FontBook the first time, then it stays that way even when I close the prog.
The only way to correct it is to reboot. ![]()
I can add more functionality and more eyecandy if you want, but there is a point where an application stops to be freeware. Call me a *****, but I have seen a bunch of apps with similiar functionality which are not freeware and you couldn't skin them even
.
@about the removing text bug, can you people give me a little more information, because it's fun to hear that the text disappears, but I really can't solve this if I don't get information like which font are you using for the objectbar/start menu. What actions did you perform in the fontbook etc...
From what I can tell, just launching Fontbook causes this problem on my machine.
The font I am using is LucidaMac....I'm pretty sure it's a Type1 font too.
I'm currently at work now, so I can't check.

Bloody hell Seph - were you waiting in the wings? that was about 2 seconds after I posted the edit
The thing that was causing the artifacts on my app was Image-In so dont worry about it. I did find another bug though ( sorry :6 ) Sometimes, and this has only happened with 2 fonts so far, when I add a font to a new collection and restart the app then click on that font again it doesn display a preview (its just the default font and you cant change the size of it). The font in the preview has not resemblance to the font selected but once I add it back to the main collection it seems to revert back to normal. I opened up C:\pdwap\fonts and saw that some of the fonts I added to a collection now had shortcuts. Is that one of your bi passes of fonts only being able to be located in c:\windwos\fonts? It could be causing the collection problem. Hope that helps you narrow it down.
