OK so now I'm confused (dont take much) tags are in the rules - yet Timan says no to tags? yet this is Timans site right? The new version sounds like it wont have tags! Which would make the current tag frenzy completely useless? So do we adhere to the tags? or do we revlot?
Tags are a defacto rule. Therefore enforced but not written. Timmie doesn't like tags, so they will be replaced with another mean in IPB v2.
For what it's worth, posts deemed "pointless" can be deleted under the new rules that we're coming up with, so all of the "this topic should be tagged [blah]" posts would be destroyed anyway, in the long run.
I also agree that mod-tagging comments should be an edit of the first post, not a new post, and you'll note that that's the way I do it, unless I've got something else to do with the topic that warrants a new post (moving, closing, whatever)...
As for the upgrade, the thing that'll replace tags is [deleted].
We will update whenever Matt plans on releasing RC1 of IPB2 
I see what you mean, Grim and i undestand. As Wizard said in my Jebus mode, it will be all gone in IPB2
For the time being though is it really that hard to stick to them? Im sure the IPB2 transition will be very soon, so, wait a bit more.
On the other hand, i think that adding a new post, stevie, is in fact very useful as it has and it will continue to create an awareness about mods enforcing tagging properly threads that need them.
Also, i had made a thread specifically for this... why do we have to create a new one?

i made a new thread cause i wasn't complaining about tagging, i was complaining about people telling people who didn't tag or didn't tag correctly that they didn't.
example some one post asking about were to find an icon and in the topic it says"[request]were to get this icon?" and there are about 4 posts about how it should be a help tag before some one actually coments on the topic.
my point was that only staff should be pointing out the rules of the site. anyone else saying that is just offtopic chatter. and it dosn't look good.
its not that big of a deal, and if it takes a lot of effort never mind, but can u unmerge this?

The tags arent that bad, they do help. Its just when you see the posts of the people saying, "this should be a [i have diahhrea] tag

I think it's not just a matter of yes or no to tags, but how to keep this place tidy, accessible and helpful.
I mean, every developer/designer who wants to release his work, will use a topic title that will stand out. And most "[help]" threads end in a question mark. It's never too hard to tell.
It gets hard when you try to search for something, though. "[help]" or "[question]" threads don't necessarily contain answers. It would be useful if the one who started the thread of some mod added a "[question:answered]" tag or something.
When I come across a "[preview]" thread, I'd like to know right from the start if there is a "[release]" thread as well. Or have the "[preview]" moved to deleted threads or another safe place after the [release].
And last, it would help to avoid duplicate threads if we had more threads listed per page. In popular threads like General Discussion, 15 titles per page is too few.

Not sure if this has been mentioned since last night (the reshuffle), but are release/request tags necessary anymore in those forums with release/request subforums?
