Finderx Preview

Heya Everybody

Yes, I know - I'm just registred and all that. But I actually came here for one small reason only - I wanted to show you guys and girls a small thing which I *MIGHT* finish as time goes. Please notice the might, since I'm involved in better and more complex projects too, such as www.rhapsody-project.tk - Well anyway I've been working a little on a shell, simply because I'm sick and tired of seeing new themes and small no-good applications. I personally don't want to theme my computer and make it look like a Mac OS X / Windows XP hybrid, no offense to any - that's just my thoughts.

SO what do an annoying guy as me like - well I'll be delighted to show and let you have a small preview. Please notice that I haven't spend THAT much time at this yet, and this is only to show what I would like to do and bring to all you other Mac GUI lovers out here - I'll accept every comment and critisism - but only as long as they're constructive - if you think it sucks - tell me but also WHY you think so.

Anyway keep in mind that this is no where near complete, but should give you an idea of how I would like it to function.

I've downloaded twice and can't seem to successfully extract the file from the ZIP. The screenshot looks promising, but what would be better would be a short description of what this application does, and what it may eventually be capable of doing.

Just downloaded myself - no problem here.

There's not much to say - the overall idea is to make a Windows Explorer replacement, which sorta mimics OS X GUI - also kept in the AQUA looking way. However still without making a 100% rip-off.

I'm in the middle of adding a routine to list devices at the desktop. Right now it works great 'cept that it gives'em all a HD look

As soon as this "little" thing is done, I'll make a repack.

Ahh here we go - finally found a solution which I'm satisfied with myself - only the neatest code is good enough for you guys

Here's the new preview - now with code which detects your drives and add'em to desktop with some predefined icons.

Sadly the wallpaper support had to go since it was conflicting - ah well that was a little rushed anyway

Well IMO it doesn't lack much before it's USEABLE, but will lack all kind of features. For the next preview release - oh I better say that every time I make a preview release, it's only for preview nothing else - as soon as I start call it alpha and beta they can be used more or less, but with features missing. Anyway for the next preview release will I try to work out a Window component - designing it all from scratch mostly you see - I only miss 2 small features in my brain to have fully working Windows in AQUA look, and surely there's something I've forgotten, but at least that's what I'll aim for. They might not be move- and resizeable to start with, but they'll be working.

I can say that I design icons, menus, and panels etc. in memory and assign it to the FinderX afterwards. It's fast, stable and it works - and as a bonus you can grap the same features several times instead of creating a duplicate again and again.

Anyway enough talk - time to leave.

Hmmm not bad, but the look does need updated to look more like the latest version of OS X, "Panther" 10.3. I'd love to help if I could, I'm a graphix dude

I also happen to bo working on a shell, and currently *partially* supports 32-bit icon masks on the desktop (background limited to one color ), but I doubt it'll ever get as advanced as yours is aiming to be...

gfx is gfx - it can always be updated. Right now I'll look at the code and do that first - once it's near a good release candidate the gfx can get an overhaul - Thing is that I', coding as dynamic as possible, so that it's easier to adjust for the user

The adding of windows is going better and faster than I expected - if nothing goes wrong, we'll have windows within the next couple of hours.

Currently it supports 255 windows - all which is drawn upon demand - weee no memory abuse

Can anyone suply me with a STANDARD window screenshot of Panther ? A window showing just the / ( root ) for example.

Oh the worst thing is that, as I expected, it's currently not possible to resize and move the windows - tsk tsk - if only one window was needed it would have been much easier - lol.

Anyway once the windows are fully working, all the small detail work is comming stuff as how a tiff icon looks and all that kinda crap. And NO I'll not use any Winblows stuff to ease it.

Ah well just keeping you all informed

What the... If that's true you really gotta be kiddin' - I know I haven't tried Panther, but is that really how windows looks.

thats the old finder, panthers finder is new and "brushed metal" and alot better

Well people - this might be how windows are gonna look in the first version - gfx is gfx as I said. It's easy to make the windows look different later on.

And I promise that I'll make the images as dynamic as possible, so that our good designer friends - here I think at one who posted earlier :naughty: can design some new gfx for the windows and other related stuff. Maybe even bringing the brushed metal look or even a completely new look to FinderX.

One suggestion, after checking the preview-application: try to do some anti-aliasing on the graphics. The icons look a bit jaggy.

this is kind of off-topic but since we now have a gallery, i think it would be beneficial if some of our mac-owning members post mac ss's in one place. that way, there could be a central place on this site that people could use as a reference in cases like this one where a developer/skinner needs them.

by the way this project looks interesting to say the least and i'm waiting to see the window integration even if they look jaguar-esque for now
