Tunderbird->mail Tutorial

I downloaded mr postman, but I can't seem to figure out how to install this.  Can anyone help me ??  I would love to be able to read all of my accounts with Thunderbird.

FatAxl

did you figure it out fataxl(from the post after yours) or do you still need help?

i got it working, and it also works with mailchecker2 as a desklet, but it takes 27mbs ram and 25mbs virtual ram, so it kinda sucks to have it running all the time.

works great if you just open it up to work alongside thunderbird. :canadian:

basically you just follow the links given before, then

1. download mrpostman.

2. make sure you've got firebird registered(if you want the install to work for it too, otherwise i don't think it matters too much).

3. install the jre using firebird's built in install setup(you can find the link at the firebirds plugin faq.

4. restart.

5. install the install-mr.postaman jar from commandline using java.. you can find the instructions in the 'instructions link' given before in this thread.

6. set up mr. postman(which is self-evident), and just use localhost as the servername in thunderbird, 11110 as your port, and your email address as your username.

pm me if you can't get it.

I figured that after this awesome tutorial on modding thunderbird, there'll be an influx of new TB users?

Anyway, I'd continue using TB if not for the following problem I faced, and I wonder if anyone else has it and had found the solution. So here goes...

I modded TB successfully yesterday. And this morning when I ran the program to retrieve my messages, I received the correct number of new mails in my inbox. However, though the program acknowledged new mails, none were shown.

In addition to the above, all the mails I have imported from OE in a separate OE folder were all missing, and found in the trash folder. Though my trash folder shows 199 new mails (apparently all my imported messages), none of them were displayed as well, similar to the above-mentioned problem.

Apparently, going through 55 pages of threads in the TB forum is not going to be very efficient. So I wonder if anyone has solutions to my problems? :shy:

Many thanks!

And great work once again, Bicet. ;)

Thanks, bh2. I've no intention of returning to OE as well, but well, that's where I am at the moment. :(

Have been trying things out the whole morning but to no avail. I'd let you know if there's any progress. ;)

And of course, any help rendered by anyone will be very much appreciated.

#108659

It seems to be an intermittant problem, which makes it all the more confusing...grrr again.

#108662

Hmmm, I've been using Thunderbird for quite a few months and I've never had any problem with it whatsoever. I've even imported my messages from OE into it's own folder and nothing like what you guys describe ever happened. Very strange..

Stupid question I know.... but I'm still going to ask it!

How can I add a background image to Thunderbird? I'm using a Rhapsodized theme but I want the normal panther background in Thunderbird. Is there a way to do that?

I don't know how to apply the backgroudn, this is the real problem...If anyone could help us this skin will go in final version.

#108675

I can't seem to find the "application data" folder that you're talking about moving the search bar thing to. I went to my C Drive, then to Documents and Settings, then to my user name, but there isn't a folder there named that, and all of the ones that are there don't have any Thunderbird folders in them. Am I supposed to create one?

Also, does anyone know a way to import contacts from Jib's address book into Thunderbird?

#108800

Open explorer go to tools-> folder options and click on view tab

You must enable view show hidden file and folders

and disable hide protected operating file system

#108802

Great, worked like a charm - thanks! Now does anyone know about the Address Book integration?

#108806

i don't think you can import from adress book to thunderbird

#108874

Yes...I managed to import my address book from Outlook easily...not vcf however.

#108882

@silence code and bh2. im not having that problem, but maybe thats becuase i wasn't using outlook express before. maybe if u remove OE it will fix the problem.

just a thought

#108941

You might have a point there, Grim. Since I wasn't experiencing any problems with TB until I imported mails from OE. I might give it a try when I have time on hand. ;)

Thanks for sharing, Grim. ^_^

#108943

Cheers Grim...I'll look out for that, although all seems well at the moment. I love the new mail flag...great stuff!!

#108997

can someone mirror or send me the compact menu extension? i cant reach it :(

#109208

Wow, this is a really nice tutorial. Thanks a lot! (Y)

#109225

Hey guys!

Does someone know how to turn on this "pop up window" notification for new mails? It only pop ups when I have a new mail on .mac account :( but not on the other ones.

#110015

does this not work with the newest nightly .5b?

i can do all the mods but step 7

i get a error and can't run mail when i add the messenger.dtd file but can do everything else

#110107

First of all tnx to everybobody!

@gable:

I will try now the 0.5 nightly build, so I will post the new messenger.dtd for 0.5, but you got to wait for a while 1-2 hours.

#110270

ONLY FOR 0.5 RELEASE Working with 2004.02.03 build

7.

THunderbird MUST be closed

You got to download the zip on this post, then

Open with winrar

c:\Program Files\Thunderbird\chrome\en-US-mail.jar

Navigate to locale\en-US\messenger

and put the messenger.dtd contained in the zip into this folder.

messenger.zip

Attachment: messenger.zip

#110275

Why do I have to repeat myself... ;)

#110324

I don't know about window notification, it probably could be a bug, have try a search on mozzila forum?

#110336

Thanks for saying Hello Bicet! ;) Well I don't want it to be a bug, because I like it.

Maybe you didn't understand me; I'm talking about the "new mail" pop up in the lower right corner of your screen. It's great, but it only pop ups on my .mac account.

Offtopic: You're from Italy, right? I'm your neighboor, from Slovenia. ;)
