Well, no, it's not the sidebar we're looking for. But who really uses the media bar anyway.. we could just scrap it and put the Finder bar there instead! That way it could even be hotkey-activated..
New Finder

well no luck on the default yet, nor can i remove the Mediaplayer bar at the bottom, however i have managed to make a version the should work for everyone.
DL the RAR file and run install.cmd.
after that goto View --> Explorer Bar --> Media and presto, u should have a finder bar that works.
please excuse the graphic, i just picked them for testing purposes.
Edit : I've updated the CMD file, should install properly now. I have also been told that an advert sometimes show's, the solution to this is to goto the advanced internet options and under multimedia check the first option "Dont display online media..."
UPDATED again...

Actually, it's very interesting! Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it work in Explorer, only in IE, and the Media Player kinda looks weird sitting there all alone, but it's a great start
Is there a way to have the Media Bar displayed in Explorer?
it should display in explorer, i know it does for me <_< . is it just not showing a bar, or is the bar blank?

i apologise Xfluffyx i still havent got used to this new board skin, hit the edit button instead of the add reply :banging: .

Silly rabbit, i just figured out that I have to choose it as an Explorer bar in "view" :shy: So yeah, it works! Any luck on getting it to always be there by default?
after my stupidity... lets continue with the finder bar, as xfluffyx had said, where it says Media it has to be changed to Finder, but everytime thats happens the dll file stop working <_< . the other thing xfluffyx mentioned was the media bar... i can change it to be all white, but it will still be there. anyway ill keep lookin around c if i can find better fixes to these issues.
as for the default, sry i cant yet make it stay <_< . if anyone wants to look into this it would b a big help.
@xfluffyx sry again bout the post, i was in a rush :shy: .

Oh yeah, would it be possible to somehow create a config for it so that we can change the drive letter shortcuts? "Cause with people that have more than one partition, the CD drives open up the next partitions...
if u goto c:\finder, youll find a .htt file... assuming u know a little about HTML and Java editing you can customize it to whateva u want.

Did that. Excellent, thank you for the tip ![]()

Off the top of my head.. maybe if you can find where the media player applet lives and rename it it might not just show up? *shrug* I'll take a look tomorrow and see if I can spot anything.
And the post editing.. don't worry about it!
congrats the unknown, this is the best integration so far... cos webview can't be set as default view on xp, and can't be set at all in special folders like my comp, my odcs, etc... (or i haven't figured it out yet).
But this is not the point of my post, i wanted first to know if you could get rid TOTALLY of the media bar on the bottom, cos even if i mod all the files refering to the player on browselc, i still got the bg of the volume bar, & a few other things stills shows up... i hope you had removed it totally.
And the other point of my post is that once i've installed your file i got half of my cop=mp in french and the other in english
so i ask you if you could do a brief tutorial (or at least explained what to change and wht not to change) cos i've tried translate with reshacker browselc.dll in french, but after menu weren't showing up anymore...

yea i can see that would be a problem. ok heres what to do...
Open an ORIGINAL browselc.dll in reshacker.
Goto to "23" resource tree and expand it.
Delete Everything except the *.HTM files (you should find 3 of these).
After that, replace MB404.HTM MBOFFLINE.HTM and MBLOADING.HTM with those in the attatch archive.
Save and assuming you have already used the install.cmd file to put everything else in place your menu bar should show.
i have found that reshacker corrupts the dll file if you use it to change Media --> Finder so go DL restorator do a search for media, replace them with finder. save and you have all the names right aswell.
to install this file just replace it with the one in my archive and exec install.cmd.
the media player window is still messin with me, i have found the graphics for it are stored in Browseui.dll but i hav not yet found how to remove the window completely, i know it must be possible because you can "undock it" but its proving to be a large challenge.

HaHa!
I finally got around to DLing this mod.:shy:
Brilliant work! Little altering was needed. Now I have a nice, working finder sidebar. Fully customizable to boot!
Thank you xweslex (starting it off), xfluffyx (expanding on xwesleyx's work) and finally theunknown for pulling it all together.
It was a little disconcerning to see my File menu and such disappear, but now that I've fixed it (I still use the dang thing!
) everything is nice.
Once again, brilliant work all!
thats good to hear
. what was the issue with the file menu? i have neva seen it disapear on this end.
-The Unknown
Right. Here's my spiffy mockup of what I saw when I opened My Computer...

I must admit, it was kind of neat having the Windows throbber centered, but the abscence of a File menu and such didn't settle well with me.
I had to grab a backup I had sitting around (yeah for backups!) and edited the 23 folder myself with the .HTM files you posted.
strange, i guess the only reason i can see for this would be versions. i have SP1 with all the windows updates applied.
oh well aslong as it works in the end thats the main thing.
-The Unknown
It's working here. Almost like a charm. I'm counting on you, I hope that you'll manage to make it default and remove this dang media player window. Great work so far (Y)
I can't select the media bar from View>Explorer Bar>Media Bar bacause the Explorer Bar menu won't expand

have your used my browselc or did you create your own? if you created your own its a good possibility it has corrupted as browselc is a pain to work with.
try replacing the htm files with reshacker and renaming the menus with restorator.

Is this the only thing I have to do? What about those other posts? Anyway, the media bar makes my cpu go crazy and its blank except for the play controls
a page back is another archive, u must install that first, then if you have trouble or use another language do what u just quoted.
-The Unknown
That other one worked, thx!
