aquaTunes Beta Testing Begins

hey all, just wanted to tell everyone here that if you want to help beta test aquaTunes to go here: http://musicdb.port5.com/aquaTunes/

instructions:

download all 3 .rar files and extract them to the same folder.

run the aquaTunes-1.exe file, and you should be good to go.

*you must have the same version of aquaControls (which should be the most up to date one)

please post results of your testings.

known problems:

slow resizing

no eq, visualizer

eject works, inject doesnt

also post suggestions, thats the only way things will improve!

lets try to keep all info on aquaTunes in this thread

more than likely the version of aquaControls that you are using and the aquaControls that i was using to compile aquaTunes are different versions.

ill recompile the code and upload it soon.

all you should have to redownload if this happens again is the aquaTunes.rar file

nope still doesnt work, jef also said he couldnt get it to run until he opened it up in visual basic, you sure your not using some control thats not included? really would like to see this app but

i know all the files are included, i have downloaded the files on a computer that i havent developed aquaTunes on at all and it runs fine.

wait about 15-20 minutes and an updated version will be up to download. ill probably start to put versions with the file to make it easier to reference different download versions. probably going to keep the last to latest ones up there.

it's working on my computer

i extracted all the files from the rar's into the same directory and opened up aquatunes-1.exe.

here is my 2 cents: (and i'm not familiar with visual basic so i have no idea what is possible, so don't mock )

first of all, there are no mouse over effects.

the scroll bars should be skinned to mimic OS X

once you push the equalizer or visualizer button, there is no way to uncheck it

the add button isn't doing anything for me right now, i would rather use it to add songs than import

there is no skin on the background...it shouldn't be just white

no way to rename an already named playlist

no offense or anything...i think it's great that your working on something like this.

it would also be nice to have an option to minimize to system tray

and i do realize this is just a VB app, so it won't be the best mp3 player, but just trying to be constructive.

check on the iTunes skin for QCD (quintessential media player) if you haven't already seen it. try to locate spidercrabX's web page...he has it.

i'll offer some more criticism later, if you want it

change of plans, you are going to have to redownload aquaTunes.rar, i cant upload anything else, so i have to upload over the same file. the file should be updated. if it still doesnt work, then try to update your version of aquaControls.

this is my second project, i was working on a dock, but didnt get far at all.

i guess i dont understand this rollover thing. when i look at the real iTunes, there arent any rollovers! in my mind im thinking of like a webpage in terms of rollover, when you mouseover something the color of a link changes or something. i dont see that when im in iTunes. maybe you are looking at an old version.

what add button are you talking about? the one in the lower left corner? i hope so. if you want to import songs, go to the import button in the upper right corner, and it should all work. let me know of things that dont work right.

my advice for the problems you are having is to download the latest version of aquaControls. thats all the help i can give you.

the updates (scroll bars) that you mention are coming, jef is working hard on those elements for me, so they should be here soon.

the eq and vis are messed up, i know you cant inactivate them. i got lazy when i realized i couldnt do an EQ or VIS

works on my computerat home, and at work as well.

at work, i got the aqua-controls and it did agreat job.

dunno whats the problem tim.

there should be mousedown and up effects for play, <<, >>. you may not see them because they arent active if there isnt a song to play. try loading a song or double clicking on one and then the down and up states should change the image.

if the program is open andyou double click on an mp3, does it add it to your playlist?

when you double click on it, are you in explorer? if so then no, it wont. i dont know how to do that or to drag and drop a song into a playlist. i hope to investigate that soon though.

Don't let ANYONE de-suade you from persuing this farther. Great job so far.

I won't bore you with bugs 'cause I know how early of a release this is. Just keep working on it and do yourself proud.

Once again, great job.

P.S. Question: In your screenshot, it shows multiple playlists. How is that done? I tried making a new one by copying the library one, but it didnt work.

you should be able to just click on the plus button (lower left) and a new playlist should pop up, then you can rename it and add songs to it if you with.

let me know if something is not working, thats a major flaw if it doesnt work right.

right click and open in new window, then you will get a forbidden error so click on refresh and it will load.

Also Timan what did you use to create that aqua effect? a filter? if so what is it called?
