Safari...

I've found that text boxes on certain pages causes it to crash (Earthlink Webmail/eBay).

It does seem somewhat more stable.

I've reverted back to the last stable release until they iron out those problems.

Many people might have already learnt this. But I've just known that you can actually open a new tab using a mouse by right-clicking right on the tab bar.

I tried the latest Build and this is what I have to say:

- Seems to be more stable

- Still the same old annoying bugs: Safari doesn't remember its Window-size/-position, Auto-Start of Downloads, some pages still open in new Windows instead of Tabs and a lot of other things....

It's important that they work on stability, but they should also work on usability. Until they fixed those things, I continue using Opera.

I know my reply pertains to a rather old part of this discussion but here goes...Those "hard" facts are all from Apple's own sites. The disclaimer states quite clearly, "Performance will vary based on system configuration, network connection, and other factors" and there are no testing procedures mentioned at all. If I went about believing every statistical data/chart shown to me by the marketing section of any corporation, I'd have been overloaded with a bunch of junk. Even Symantec's site claims Norton is the fastest/most secure/blah blah blah...Would you want to even try it?

Edit: And you can even try most of those tests out yourselves, for a real true comparison.

Safari 3.0.4 crashes as soon as it loads I tried reinstalling end everything anyone else have this problem?

I went back to the stable because if you type in any text box, inexplicable crash. A new build may be around soon, so I suspect we'll have that one ironed in it...

An update for those who are having crashing issues with the internal build (3.0.5):

Delete the saved passwords list in Safari preferences. It won't crash if you type passwords afterward. However, there is a glitch (webkit team is aware of it) that causes Safari to scroll down while typing in text boxes. The next build shouldn't have this issue.

Any idea why it crashes as soon as it tries to load? I mean I cant even get to a text box because I cant get it to load at all it pops up then crashes. Where are the preferences kept so that I can delete them before I try to start Safari.

New Update for Safari on Developer Connection: Version 3.1 (525.6). I sense a bit irony out of the version number, as this one seems to be the most stable version yet. No silly spacebar issues.

Although to note, the spellcheck is on by default in this version.

February 7 Update:

New build on ADC; Safari 3.1 (525.7). I've already heard some complaints about this one, so give it a few days (or month) for Apple to iron the new bugs out.

Yay, I'm triple posting...

Safari 3.1 (525.9) is out on ADC. This version works the best so far. It's coming along nicely. Still some funny quirks with it, though.

Glad to see the progress. There's going to be a big Apple announcement at the end of the month, so hopefully it will be about a new stable version of Safari
