Safari...

I was watching the Apple WWDC 07 keynote which finished some 10 minutes ago.

One of the things they announced is that they brought Safari to the Windows platform.

It's still in beta, but now you can finally put your skins in the trash and go with the real deal.

i knew it

Apple does know of FireFox's existence, right?

Bad move in my opinion. The only reason why I don't use FireFox instead of Safari on my Mac is because Safari is pretty. Though, a Safari update is welcomed for Mac users, I wished they would have spent the resources they used in porting it, for something cooler.

Just got it, seems great tried to import my firefox bookmarks, wouldnt work thou. =(

EDIT: Found out it did import, just didnt know my way around. Think ill stick with firefox for now, I love my extensions too much.

EDIT2: After using it for a while, Im really loving the font rendering. I opened Firefox and got disappointed a bit. >_<

I am replying using Safari on Vista.. I am a little disappointed with the looks of it. I don't know really... I was expecting something more. I would like the color at the top to be a bit lighter, kind of like the lighter shade of the Uno Smooth which I have seen on a friend's Mac..

How long before people start skinning this? :P

#459500

Sigh !!

First we try to skin the hell out of FireFox to make it look like safari, now that we got Safari... we wanna skin the hell outta of it too.

That's what happens when effect becomes more imporatant, over cause.

Ah, wonderful can someone tell me what's up with this error message when I try to install it.

"The Installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package, This may indicate a problem with this package, the error code is 2738"

WTF. This is on Vista under Bootcamp 1.3b. Saw this message earlier with quicktime and had to install some VB Ware package or some thing along those lines in regards to Visual Basic. Any help is a plus. Thx.

Okay figured it out just ran the VBScript CMD command and it installed, for those who may be encountering such an issue by chance.

i think it's about time windows had a chance to use webkit..

#459504

Damn, real font rendering under windows ... Nice job on the fonts ... Now we need multiplugin ^^

PS : Finally, a refreshed apple.com look

EDIT : Vista : Can't bookmark anything ... Returning to try Safari 3 under Tiger

PS : New docks looks amazing ^^

Hey, they made much better font smoothing than Windows. Wahoo! Text-box resizing. Nice. It's like your browsing the web on a Mac. Really.

#459506

I love this thing, about time

#459507

YES!!! I've been waiting for this day for... a very long time. Boo-yeah!

#459508

Great..if only Apple released this a long time ago...like when I was heavily interested in customizing my PC...now I am heavily interested in customizing my Mac (which i must say is 1,000 times better).

I'm using it right now, and so far, so good...I really like it. I am just fascinated about how the RSS feed "pull down" effect is able to work on a PC...that must be some kind of trick they did to work with everyone's graphics card...I must give KUDOS to APPLE for that...it so much resembles Safari...but in a more "Leopard" way.

I know PC customizing enthusiasts must be in complete bliss over today...their customizing has gone up a notch...I wont be surprised if someone finds a way to hack Safari on Windows to have themes and such...like FireFox.

Do any of you guys think you would replace FireFox with Safari now it is out..even though its in public beta?

#459509

Well if it gets more stable I can envisagate to do it. Resizable fields rocks xD

Only if they fix the unworking features

Edit : Preventing to close the window (confirmation) when you entered text rocks too :P

#459511

*gasp* I wonder if other apps are to come????

#459514

I think so.. I think that Apple will release more apps for Windows if Safari does well and improves their market share (which I have a feeling it will...)

I would love Multi Plugin for Safari..

How many of you guys on PC's have already decided that Safari will be your main browser? I am still not sure, because I have become quite fond of IE7 (call me crazy, but yeah...)

#459516

I love it, I'm just waiting till some skins possibly come out *cough* Localhost *cough* :D

iTunes is nice on OSX, Quicktime is OK on OSX, everyone knows how bad they are on windows. Unless apple figured how to make decent windows apps overnight you shouldnt expect much and this is no different.

Just installed it, bit of a hog and a few bugs but it is beta, font smoothing looks alright but is likely to make you need glasses in about a week (You can actually change the level of smoothing, quite a nice touch). A native windows UI imo would be nicer, but would remove the whole mac emulation for some here.

Not a bad effort for a beta, but unlikely to make anyone other than apple fanboys switch.

Bookmarks work fine on Vista: adding, removing, importing and exporting. It's become my new default browser. Thanks Apple!

#459522

Kinda laggy on my Mac...but looks good for windows users.

#459523

I can't import my bookmarks. Actually, doing anything related to bookmarks causes Safari to crash, which makes it kind of unuseable. What's up with that?

EDIT: I'm running Safari under Vista

#459526

Ran fine for me under Vista. Got my IE and Firefox bookmarks by default. It just looks so out of place though. I'd love to have the Safari functionality, but using something native looking. Oh well, suppose it's what I should have expected with the way iTunes acts.

#459529

It looks like this is skinned exactly the same way as iTunes is. It would be wonderful if someone made a "real" mac skin for this.

#459531

All those whining about crashing and breaking and what-not of Safari.... I hope you do remember that it IS a BETA software ???

Given that, isn't it obvious?

#459532

i fing love apple... one step closer to mac on windows... (im too poor to afford a macbook :()
