Your top 5 favorite operating systems

Whats your top 5 favorite Operating Systems.

Also, please explain why your 1st Place candidate is your favorite.

1st Place? Apple's Macintosh OS X 10.4.8 Tiger

2nd Place? Microsoft's Windows Vista Home Premium

3rd Place? Microsoft's Windows XP Professional x64-bit

4th Place? Ubuntu Linux 6.10

5th Place? Apple's Macintosh OS X 10.0 Cheetah

I chose Apple's Macintosh OS X 10.4.8 Tiger because the Macintosh Operating System has the best overall Eye Candy in combination with great functionality and applications.

I chose Ubuntu because it is what I use / have been using for the past few months and don't plan on using any other OS in the future.

#445920

what about 3, 4, and 5?

think of it like this...if you cant use any of the top two, what would you WANT to use after them? and so on.

I did, but I don't like it as much as I liked Jaguar.

#445942

ok then....just another point of curiousity.....why do you like Jaguar more than Tiger? you cant get barely any software for Jaguar anymore....even iTunes!

#445950

//Thread Moved, Renamed.

I should have just deleted it since it was in General Discussion :slant:.

1) OS X Tiger

2) Anything Linux, Anything Windows

-NC

P.S: I've never rated them like this, hence my choice for number 2.

#446223

Quite interesting to see Vista in there so often, would be interesting to know how many have actually tested it to destruction or how many are just stunned by Windows new found GUI.

FWIW:

1) OS X Tiger 10.4

2) OS X Panther 10.3 (Excluding 10.3.9 Big bag of toss)

3) XP PRO SP2

4) Linux (Ubuntu)

5) Macintosh System 9.0

Mainly Use 10.4 or XP these days... Nothing but trouble with Vista so far some nice features but off topic in that respect.

#446249

1. Ubuntu (stable)

2. Debian (testing)

3. Windows 2000/XP

4. TOS/GEM (Atari ST)

5. MS-DOS 6.22a

I guess if I had a Mac, I'd had to reconsider... ;)

@GratefulDeadFan: Xenix? Did you actually see MS's last attempt to a unixish OS in action?

I sat at a rebranded SINIX for a while and it was awful.

#446264

@herd Missed that one, but I miss a lot of MS ca-ca. I listed Xenix because it was the first OS I used and there's a little loyalty/nostalgia thing going on there.

#446271

hmm. i see that most people either use mac, windows, or linux (well....what else is there?)

i was just wondering....what POPULAR operating systems-Linux and Unix included- are free to download?

i have this spare drive sitting around and i want to experiment with other OSs with it...

#446308

1st Tiger

2nd Win2K Pro

3rd Win XP

I've stuck W2K as second mainly because it was nearly bullet proof, for me anyway. I personally think MS peaked with that one, everything else they're doing just seems to be in making the OS pretty and less functionally.

#446319

very nice.

Sadly, though, my School computers still have old Pentium II Dells...with 64MB of RAM, and 10GB Hard Drives......to top it all off they have Windows 98...

But for the teachers?! THEY HAVE BRAND-SPANKING-NEW MAC MINIS!!!!1 WHATS UP WIT DAT?

#446327

i totally agree with you, MetallicaMaster3....that isnt right.

I work for Microsoft, and Windows 98 isnt suitable for schools these days.

#446332

windows 98 isnt suitable for anything :P

#446333

ha. that isnt totally true.

Windows 98 is actually a stable OS. I like it still. I use it on my Mac with Bootcamp (hush, dont tell the boss!) i use it mostly because some programs that i use to make other programs using the BASIC programming language require Windows 98....so its not totally worthless.

my top 5?

1. Windows Vista

2. Windows XP

3. Windows Me

4. Windows 2000

5. Windows 98SE

:D
