playstation 3 or nintendo wii

I disagree. As you see, i didn't mention the price in my arguement because I understand why the PS3 is so expensive. You say the Wii is aimed towards kids.. Have you played RedSteel? Now with the Wii you can enjoy games like Splinter Cell, because all games like that are horrible on consoles other than PC. Wrestling games, imagine playing them when they are released on the wii. Since the Wii has all types of controllers you can play any game you can imagine.

The controller can make or break games. People are getting bored (with the exception of a couple people) with the same old gameplay, the same old games-concept since the PS1. The only new thing implemented is graphics. Also I'd like to mention that the PS3 now doesn't have rumble, which gives you a flat gaming experince. Why didn't Sony go ahead and develope their own rumble technology when they got sued for the other one?

Judging by your avatar your a NINTENDO Fan, well I have to admit that i'm one also but You say price, Yes the PS3 is expensive, So what, if people can afford one then get it, Sony has been on top for years sense PS1, PS2 and know PS3, where was Nintendo and their GameCube? they wasn't topping sales back then and yes the Wii sold more than PS3 but that doesn't mean the Wii is better over the PS3, I'll bet you if Sony Kept the price the same as PS2 and made enough for everyone who you think who will WIN? And yes I have played Red Steal and I rather play Gears of War on my 360 or Resistance on my PS3, Heck I rather play Zelda on my sons Wii before I play that game again. You say a controller can break a system, then if that was true then the consoles in the past like Xbox,PS2, Nintendo didn't really sale at all right? because of a controller? Come on guy let's say that for example that if Nintendo Wii released Pong, Frogger, joust, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong as Wii release lineup even if the graphic aren't that good but Nintendo new Wii remote will make the game play better? Please man Nintendo will lose sale if thay come out with that lineup. So my point is Games are the main factor why YOU buy their Consoles not a Controller. If people are getting bored with traditional controller then why did nintendo made one for $19.99 for the Wii ? because people STILL want to use them. PS3 controller doesn't have no rumble, Who gives a SH*T, that doesn't mean people are going to stop playing it. Listen man i'm not haten on the Wii but just looking at their games you have to admit that majority of wii titles are aim for kids.

The 360 does have some downpoints, in the fact that it doesn't have anything amazing, even less so than the ps3, which i must admit has amazing graphics...

that was my point... that the 360 isnt amazingly different and thats its downpoint.

But it doesnt have any specific major downpoints like the cost (PS3) or the lack of decent graphics (wii).

the 360 still has solid graphics even if they arent amazing as the PS3, and its price is decent even if it cant match the wii.

I'm not saying games don't play a part in how a console sells, but I'm saying that a game which might fail completely on more traditional controllers could be a big hit on the wii. What does the PS3 have that no-one has seen before? Graphics.. While the PS3 graphics are amazing, the Wii has no problem at all! Anyone who has played RedSteel with component cables will say that the graphics are just as amazing as some PS3 games. Also, might I point out that the PS3 graphics aren't all that superior to Xbox 360? PS3 does have better graphics on some games, but the majority the graphics are pretty darn close.

Listen man we can argue back and forth but the fact the matter is the wii is not better than the PS3 or the 360. And I have all 3, I will give you that the 360 and PS3 looks about the same, And yes their are sites that are saying that it's not worth the $600 but that their opinion, What your paying for is the Blu-Ray and that's why it's so expensive and Blu-Ray players go for $900 or more and $600 for a PS3 that you can watch Blu-Ray movies and Play games on same console is simply great and like I said before if you can afford one then get one, The price of the Wii is what atttacting more buyers and their Nintendo fans also and as a FAN I bought a Wii but gave it to my sons so that thay don't touch my PS3 or 360

You keep bringing up GRAPHICS, While PS3 can play their games in 1080p, HDMI and go on the internet and play games online with other people, same goes with Xbox-360 thay have the number 1# online service XBOX-LIVE. What's the Game that MLG (MAJOR LEAGUE GAMING) uses in their tournments HALO and that $100,000 Madden Challenge what system did thay use Xbox. Wii doesn't have no DVD playback, it has weaker graphic, it's like i'm playing GameCube all over again, You can't play people online But hey the remote is nice. SWING, SLASH, PULL.

go with the wii its cheap it has better launch titles and it already comes with a game

Sorry to break it to you, but you can play with other people online with the wii. The Wii has a console-unique friend code and you can play online with your friends for free. Also the wii has the Channels (like widgets) which you can do countless things on. The Wii has its own email system, and Nintendo is releasing an instant messaging system for the Wii.

I find the Wii online features to be the best of all next-gen consoles based on what I know..

I will give that also but listen to this Nintendo seems to have a potentially some great online setup in what I read but their is no obsolutely no games whatsoever taking advantage of it. The online scheme does looks good but all is good for is downloading VC games and trading your Mii around but if you call that fun then good for you and in all my post here is just my opinion but I do want to play real games and looking at the Wii upcoming titles as I listed in prior post does not impress me as much compared to PS3 or the 360 upcoming titles. But hey my sons loves the Wii and I will also admit that I do play the Wii time to time with them but When I want play better games that I will enjoy I have to go with the 360 or PS3. The wii lacks the advanced HD Graphics(which is important) and Suround Sound, like I said before it doesn't even play your own CD's or DVD's, but hey the Wii is next Gen? May I say GameGube is back but like I said i'm not a hater and if you like the Wii over the PS3 or 360 then good for you, and as for instant messaging and email is kinda old technology it's not really ground breaking news.

I own none of these consoles.. but I'd surely love to have PS3.

Why?

Well.. it can play games (at Hi-Def audio/video), play DVD/BDs without any extra accessory (unlike 360's external HD-DVD drive), I wouldn't give damn about downloading HD content from Xbox Marketplace given the Broadband scenario here in India. Besides PS3 has card reader so I can play/view stuff from my cellphone, camera on bigass tv without much hitch. PS3 has better online playing facilities, not sure about Wii's network gaming experience.

But, I may never buy PS3... I'd rather throw that money on upgrading my computer...

why? I can do MOST of the above on my PC... :D

apart from that............ seeing this fight here I wonder what our beloved Mods are doing.....

Unbe: Hey, NC get down here right now !!

NightCrawler: Whoa.. what happened ??

Unbe: Come fast and get some popcorns and soda.

NightCrawler: Hmmm... let me guess, there is a fight in forums...

Tim: Fight?? where? where? are bets placed already?

Unbe: So NC, who do you wanna fry once it's over... the winner or loser?

NightCrawler: I don't know... what if there is a tie?

Unbe: Then god have mercy... it's gonna be gnome's turn.. and he'd spare none.

Tim: Quiet guys.. watching this surely beats playing any darn console game...

Unbe: Yeh.. it's Fun !!

NightCrawler: it is.. it is...

I agree, PC remains the ultimate for enthusiasts...

But it will always lack the plug-and-play advantage of consoles, and of course the round the TV multiplayer which is mad...

But I now have a Macbook Pro, and it takes away a lot of the incompatiblity problems of PC, the thing I love about it is that all the drivers needed come in one neat little package that is bootcamp!... (no BSODs, graphical glitches, bugs, no stuffing around).

As for multiplayer, well I attend LANs, and the thing I love about it is I don't need to set up monitors, keyboards etc... I just open up my Macbook and im right to go!

In comparison to other peoples gaming 'rigs' my laptop has very good specs!

In a year I can add another 1GB of ram, making it the ultimate in gaming for me.

.. sounds a little odd for a mac doesnt it?

-there are rumours of an Xbox 360 version 2 in the works that has an integrated HD-DVD drive built in.

...360 and PS3; after seeing some screenies are actually not that different graphically... always thought the PS3 would come out on top, I was wrong.

I heard about that also, Microsoft is bringing out a new version of the 360, Can't wait for that. So you have a MacBook Pro how is it? I seen so alot video on MacPro that can play Pc games like Counter-Strike, BF2 and Half-Life etc... are you running boot camp or Parallels? Right know i'm planning on getting a MacPro but waiting after MacWorld to get one. And your also right about something Levi no console can't compare to a computer. As for PS3 and 360 being the same your right also but each console has their own style I like, there are some games I

like on the PS3 like Resistance, Tekken, Metal Gear etc... and there are games I like on the 360 like gears of war, halo 3 (can't wait for that) lost plant, elder scrolls, bioshock and of course the the wii Zelda is my only favorite on the Wii for now, But I enjoy playing all of them either it's a console or a computer I just love playing Video games.

#436932

Yes, from enthusiasts point of view... the PC remains ultimate. Because you can customize any way you want... and if you KNOW what you are doing (well aware of hardware/software), only money can stop from building that ultimate machine.

And that's another reason why I'd love to have PS3 (as a gift offcourse, not from my own wallet ;))

Because PS3 is easiest of the three to mod. Also, currently PS3's cell processor is underutilized.. say about only 30% of cell's power is tapped right now. Reason being, it's very hard to code for and game developers being lazy to write code optimized for cell processor.

360 and PS3; after seeing some screenies are actually not that different graphically... always thought the PS3 would come out on top, I was wrong.
You could still be wrong :).

Imagine when the power of cell will be fully utilized. Besides, It's official that PS3 can run Linux. Given these facts, PS3 becomes much more versatile compared to other consoles.

PS3 is expensive, I agree.... but not for someone who can make use of that money spent. Some might argue that why to spend on all these features if I'm not gonna use them. But I think, features better be there than not being there... because if I want to use them anytime, I don't have invest again in accessories.

#436933

I like the Wii because it is fun, and my whole family can play it without any prior teaching. I would want a PS3 for the amazing graphics, and the other things like the DVD and Blu-Ray integration. I would also want a PS3 for games that need a normal controller, because madden with the wiimote is hard, and racing games are too. I have an xbox 360 though, and that is unreliable.

I just want all of them.

#436991

i heard about HD-DVD being built into the newer 360 models, but that might force microsoft to increase the price well above 400 which is how much the current premium bundle costs. this new model was supposed to take over the price of the current premium system and the premium takes over the core's price. ive also found out that itll come packed in with a 65nm cpu which will emmit less heat thus causing less noise from the fans (we all know how loud our 360's are), a digital HDMI port for a full 1080p experience and a 120gig hd, thank god because i we need more space if we want to download all these hd trailers and movies etc. ive said it before, ps3 domination is no more espically since alot of its popular titles are jumping ships. first we got word of virtua fighter 5 comming to 360 a few months after its initial release on ps3 and now its tekken 5. next up metal gear solid 4, keep your fingers crossed for that one.

#437035

i don't know guys, i think Atari has the best console

I agree!... seriously I think the world has forgotten the meaning of fun... we become so rapped up in Blue ray, motion sensors and (what does the 360 have unique... :o ) that we forget the good ol days of arcade...

bring back the vinyl and all that, screw the sorround sound subwoofer crap, I want fun not fidelity.

I heard about that also, Microsoft is bringing out a new version of the 360, Can't wait for that.

So you have a MacBook Pro how is it? I seen so alot video on MacPro that can play Pc games like Counter-Strike, BF2 and Half-Life etc... are you running boot camp or Parallels?

...each console has their own style I like.

I'm a fanboy, but I can honestly say that the Macbook pro plays all those games you mentioned above (my fav being half-life 2) at native resolution (1440 x 900) on full settings with no framerate drops...ok ok there is a little, but its not that bad and they are few and far between, If i were to drop one of the settings by a notch thier would be none... seriously its virtually flawless graphics.

that said, im using bootcamp not Parallels. I've looked at parallels but never got to installing XP on it, as it seems way too complicated. And from what I've heard its hopeless at games!

I'd only use paralells if I frequently had to use macosx and Xp side by side.

I'm glad you acknowledge that every console has its own cool style, I hate fanboys who only see one side... and each person you meet will prefer a different style or console... but it doesnt mean people shouldnt acknowlege the benefits of another console.

I purchased a Wii. I got my money's worth out of Twilight Princess, it took a little less than 40 hours with the heart pieces and whatnot to finish. It was fun enough to play through again but took less than 15 going from point to point knowing where to go. I rented Red Steel, I finished it by the end of that day. I can't really vouch that it's on par with a lot of the powerhouse FPS games that have come out more recently. The sword fighting got repetitive and I never really got into it, I would just swipe the controller forward like a playing kitten to slash repeatedly unless I was forced to break their sword. Towards the end of the game I felt like I just wanted it to end so I could say I beat it and be done with it so I'd run into a room and shoot everyone in the head so it wouldn't take as long haha. The last FPS I was really into, well technically was BF2 for PS2 until that arose the inner anger I didn't know I had. Before that was Perfect Dark for N64 preceeded by Goldeneye which was the first. I didn't really jump on board with Halo so much though it was fun, there were too many rivalries between pretty much every college freshman that would talk smack because they sit and played Blood Gulch matches for 18 hours a day. Blaming their inability to win other matches because "the map was different."

My sad loyalty to Zelda influenced my Wii purchase as well as the anticipation of playing online with Smash Bros. Brawl. Since Smash Bros. Melee is really the only game I can stlil play to this day and enjoy it. While the virtual console aspect of it is interesting; the only problem I have is that the only games I have interest in playing again I already have the cartridges for be it Super Metroid, or Mario RPG, or Chrono Trigger, or Kirby Superstar, or any Zelda. Zelda 1 for example I already have for NES, GBA, the compilation disc for GCN and the ROM, I find it a tad unecessary to get it in a another format even if it is a good game.

Sorry if some of this post is a little jumpy from place to place.

When Xbox jumped on board in the console rivalry, It did grow it's own share of decent game titles but those I knew that played it or had one never came off to me as a traditional gamer. When 360 came out they pawned off all of their software and just play the "now" thing. Which is fine I suppose, it's just weird to me being as I've kept every game I've bought since my childhood. I guess it's just the stereotype I've been exposed to.

Playstation on the other hand, I'm not gonna lie, I've played my fair share of playstation ever since Squaresoft and Enix came together and started making games only for the sony. I remember being disappointed at first when Nintendo lost the rights to make final fantasy games but the ones that came out over time for playstation are very epic and they haven't really skipped a beat. But yeah, while the Blu Ray integration with PS3 is convenient, it's a bit of a turn off to consumers because while it may be the next big thing, the technology at this point isn't economically friendly. A good example of this in the past would be when the Phillips CD-I player came out, this was around the time when super nintendo came out in the early 90s at a debut price of 700 dollars. Looking back now you'd think the technology in it compared to today's standard would be terrible but I suppose that's why cell phones in the 80s were so expensive.

XBox 360 looks very nice, the whole Live fee thing is a turnoff (to me anyway) but is understandable. 360 is definitely designed to make money, Microsoft's reputation remains the same to this day. The Playstation 3 is just a little bit ahead of its time, but I think will have no problems over time given the reputation that Sony has built up over the past ten years or so. I think the Wii will still maintain a hard-headed Nintendo fan's loyalty while appealing to a wider age demographic. Be it a person interested in playing games from their youth that are difficult to find or a 95 year old woman who wants to take a break from killing people in Halo 2 online to sit back and bowl a few times.

A great society revolutionizing game comes once in a blue moon and I think the recent surplus of graduating game developers are having trouble with that. Nintendo has an advantage in that they have a lot more recognizable and adored mascots. I'm sure nowadays you can go up to anyone and most of them would have an easier time naming ten mario enemies than ten US presidents. Microsoft on the other hand really came out of left field when they released Halo, but I think a lot of thought was put into it because the popularity that Master Chief developed really helped progress XBox's popularity in the gaming world and opened peoples eyes to another decent option in the gaming industry. Sony is very driven on making their console a multimedial epicenter trying to focus on making that tv that everybody sits in front of all the time do everything someone sitting on a couch would want it to do. As for their gaming focus they managed to get ahold of some intelligent developers that could make their own mascots. Konami for exampled developed the Metal Gear Solid series as well as started their new standard for Castlevania games when they released Symphony of the Night (one of my favorites). Square-Enix has released multiple Final Fantasy games so that has to mean something. As for PC (if you'd like to include that in this comparison) has developers like Maxis (Sim City or The Sims) and Blizzard which released Warcraft and Starcraft.

Other characters for examples have made their rounds as well, Sonic and Megaman are two good examples that have sold games (sonic) for Sega in the earlier years and Nintendo now and (megaman) for nintendo and even for playstation and PC.

So while most of these can be "old-faithfuls" the basic principal falls down to this. If a game is good, people will play it. If it's great, people will be influenced to follow your hardware developmental decisions. Thereby buying your console.

PS- As for the people that follow Madden NFL (insert year here) I'll never understand the point of buying the same game with a different number on the front if only to play with a team that has the roster be one player different. I personally would rather play real football even if I weigh about as much as a female supermodel. The last football game I can say I enjoyed was either Tecmo Super Bowl or Mutant Leage Football, those were fun, haha.

So yeah, that's my ::looks in pocket:: 53 cents.

"No one will ever reach the PS3 power 100%" dont remember who said this but with dumb comments like this its no wonder people are hating ps3 these days, seriously why make a system this powerful and expensive if it cant show its true colors.

#437147

like I said earlier ShadyApple, the game developers are being lazy bums to code for cell.. because it IS complex.

Take even PC gaming scenario for instance... how long it's been people using Dual Core CPU's?? yet we don't see many games getting SMP support. (I know Quake4 does SMP since I've that game, not sure about FEAR).

forget about Quad core/Multi Core support. Though it's easy to blame game devs, it's also a fact that writing a code optimized for Multi-core ain't easy. But a comment like "No one will ever reach the PS3 power 100%" won't stand long. Once game engines starts getting some multi core love, we will see.

PS3 is like Porsche Carrera GT... it's good looking, it's expensive and needs a good driver to get most fun outta it. Again, I would say... it's a matter of time and will of developers.

#437159

One reason the PS3 was so expensive was because Sony tried to incorporate Blu-Ray.

#437180

For starters, anyone considering the differences between the Wii and the PS3 should check out this video. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9...q=ps3+wii&hl=en

As to my personal opinion, I understand the PS3 is almost sickeningly expensive, but suprisingly enough the PS3 is actually being sold at a loss by Sony. The reason is a fairly simple one and its something that most companies that produce gaming systems put into practice. The idea is to sell the system for less than its worth and make up the loss in profit on the system by selling peripherals and games. Unfortunately, Sony got nailed in a bad way over this, given that the majority of the people who purchased a PS3 did so for selling them on eBay. So, they sold very few peripherals and games with the launch systems. I also feel they cut their own throats by providing so few systems per store.

As far as technology goes, I could care less about the Blu Ray thing. Sure, its the future of DVD, but because of the way Blu Ray drives work, conventional CD and DVD technology has issues being read and played properly by Blu Ray drives. That is the biggest part of the reason why PS2 and PS1 games, while they will play on the PS3, look like garbage. Sony should seriously have included a 2nd drive in the PS3 that was just a standard DVD-Rom. As cheap as a simple DVD-Rom drive is, it wouldn't have driven up the system cost overall, and would have saved the issues with standard DVD movies, and PS2/PS1 games being played well in the PS3.

As to the Xbox360, I think Microsoft jumped the market far too soon. As it stands, the HD-DVD drive is just now becoming more commonly avalible. Yet, for the 360 you can only get it as an add-on, and a rather expensive one at that. So, not only is it even more money to spend on an already expensive system, but its a rather tacky looking external drive at that. Sure, it's a USB 2.0 drive, but HD DVDs transfer a sick amount of data, I'm honestly not certain of USB 2.0 has the bandwidth to handle that effectively. In addition, the 360 does not use Bluetooth, and as such its wireless gamepads suffer from some pretty bad interferance problems.

Going back to Sony, it's also a company that has a rather bad history of business practices, especially over the past few years. Anyone remember that garbage with the rootkit they put on all their CDs and DVDs? On top of that, they still have never apologized for doing it. They simply apologized for getting caught. Makes you wonder what they will try sneaking by consumers this time around.

Nintendo does one thing and it does it very well, and that is make gaming systems. For those that think the Wii is only for kids, check out some of the more adult oriented titles on the system, you'll change your mind quickly. The motion sensing technology built into it is outstanding. Nintendo is also showing what type of a company it is by recalling the controllers with the wrist strap problem and replacing them. Good luck ever seeing Sony do something like that.

Sure, the Wii isn't HD or Blu Ray, but who really needs that? Most people still don't own an HDTV, and without one you cannot truly take advantage of either technology. Sure, the Gamecube had a few issues and wasn't made the best, but also keep in mind a something. The Gamecube was Nintendo's first venture into the world of making a disc based system. All of the experience that Sony picked up through trial and error, was already out of the way with the PSone. So, if you make a comparison to issues that the Gamecube had versus issues the original PSone had, you'll see that Nintendo did in fact make a far better first generation disc based system than Sony did.

Unlike the PS3 and its problems playing PS2 and PS1 games well, the Wii plays Gamecube games nearly flawlessly. It also has a massive game library of retro gaming titles that gets larger by the day. The games are pretty cheap for that as well. In a year or so, I imagine that Nintendo will have a library just in retro titles alone that will exceed the number of titles ever released on the Xbox/Xbox360 or the PS1/PS2/PS3. That in and of itself is something that motivates me to like the Wii.

Price is another big thing for me. The Wii is only $250 and doesn't require any special wiring, cables or some high end TV to be able to fully enjoy it. The PS3 requires much much more to even begin to make use of its most basic features.

On a final note, the PS3 will run Linux, I have a friend that has Linux installed onto his PS3. That is a pretty cool thing. However, there is absolutely NO distro of Linux that supports the cell processors in the PS3 as of yet. That will probably change in the future, but to date there isn't. So, Linux on the PS3 can only use the single PowerPC processor in the PS3. As a result, it runs almost like a snail in some instances. Now, once a distro of Linux comes out that supports those cell chips, it will probably be sick in speed. Until then though, I wouldn't really recommend anyone putting Linux on their PS3.

Reason 1 the Wii will win: No More Heroes.

Man, who wears shirts of anime, buys a laser katana off of ebay and decides to become an assassin.

Nothing not even the Ico&Sotc team's next game could beat that.
