playstation 3 or nintendo wii

no im not saying that at all, nintendo knows they have loyal fanbase but if it was to ever happen they would leave the business all together. their in business because they continue to innovate and introduce unique ways for consumers to play their systems, they invented the D-Pad, gave us the 64 controller, the touchscreen nintendo DS and now the very unique Wiimote/Nunchuck controllers. and i know theyve been around for awhile, they were creating cards and other stuff before entering the videogame business.

It's amazing how dumb these gaming companies are though.

When was the last time you saw a Wii or PS3 commercial on TV?

I mean, they say they want to be more main-stream and have a larger user base, yet they don't use their most reliable method of output. Everyone watches TV. If you add it up, they'd bring tons of more customers by making more commercials of their consoles.

#426353

I don't know about expanding their customer base, but neither company had any problem cleaning out all of their console reservations in a matter of hours.

Besides, who needs tv when you've got Reggie representing you. I don't know about you guys, but he gives me the impression that he could kill you ten times before you even hit the ground. It may have been that intimidation that made me want to buy a Wii.

#426356

heres their first ad, quite crappy if you ask me. and no they didnt show this on american televisions yet

if you carefully watch the video on 1:10, the clock points to 11:17, the same date the PS3 launches here in america.

#426357

I'll probably make some of you PS fans mad, but Nintendo has lasted the longest out of these two consoles (and a lot longer than the Xbox).

Microsoft's MSX came out June 27, 1983.

the NES came out July 15 of the same year.

So unless we're including the game and watchs, Microsoft wins.

#426375

Sir, may I borrow your time machine?

We won't know how awesome/crappy the wii is, until it comes it. (unless you go to trade shows?)

The ads kind of scare me actually, but I'm more excited about some of the games and the wii's cheap price then some magical remote. (which I'm hoping a good fps takes advantage of it)

Correction, you won't know. I know. Why? Well Nintendo showed up to my town.

I'm not saying wii is bad. Just it's okay. I'm not taken to a world I haven't seen before. I mean zelda is the same old shit (good shit, but still the same). Once you have played one zelda you basically played them all. Gameplay mechanics are the same, just done a new way with the wii controller.

It's like God of War. It uses the same gameplay mechanics as Devil May Cry (Which was first) and Ninja Gaiden. It still a good game, but I've done the same shit before. I guess it is just me, cause I'm pretty casual gamer now and considering I was hardcore at a younger age, these games are just okay.

My question is why not add graphical power to gameplay? Aren't two heads better than one?

And if you going to add "It's going to cost too much." You a fecking moron. PS3 is 700 bucks (With game and extra controller). I doubt Nintendo will price a console more than that.

You next comment would be "No one knew what the price of the next PS3 is gonna be and they didn't reveal it unitl E3."

I'm sure when you a big company like Nintendo, you know all the partners in the industry. Thus you know Sony partners (work with them sometimes, ppl leave jobs get new ones, etc.) and could accurately guess what the price would be. I mean Cell was like in dev for 5+ years, I could guess it would be expensive (My personal guess was 500 smackers).

So I guess it goes back to Nintendo's philo of gaming. Giving the gamer what Nintendo wants....not what gamers want. I understand Nintendo wants to get new ppl into gaming, expand their audience, but adding graphics to gameplay can do that. They are as stubborn as ever even with Iwata.

In the end, I know Nintendo will do well as a business making money, but if I owned a business I'd like it to become #1 in the industry and earn money. If other companies in the different industries can do that, why can't Nintendo?

It'll cost too much. Not for you or me, but for small children, Nintendo isn't trying to appeal to 18-28 age range, they're going for everyone's money. Nintendo priced it so it'll be less then the others for a reason, hardware thats less powerful then the others only helps keep the price down.

Also Nintendo doesn't like selling consoles were it costs more to make it then they sell it for.

I guess your right there.

I guess this would be my next question then. "What percentage of ppl under 18 makes up Nintendo's business (excluding handhelds)?"

I guess when that is answered I'll go from there.

Again I'm sure Sony doesn't like selling the PS3 for a discounted (price cut) in Japan, but they are doing it. Nintendo can do the same.

#426582

Wii, oui!

I actually wanna know that now. Its probably not as close as large as it was in the past, all kids I know consider it too kiddy to have a gamecube.

Though my first two game systems were snes and gameboy. (but there was no playstations then)

Toysrus is doing both Wii and PS3 preorders today, so better go get your camping gear... off to the store we go...

Wii > 360 > ps3 crapbox !

The most rational, in depth, and unbiased post ever. You should be a journalist.

I'm quite intrigued by Wiimote, I must admit that no matter how ridiculous that name sounds (Wii?? WTF), this thing surely sounds more rational than both Xbox360 and PS3.

After a little thinking I can't help but agree with Nintendo's strategy - A better gameplay is more enjoyable than better looking graphics.

yeah there were a few people camping out at my local best buy, our local news station actually came down and interview all these losers. seriously i dont see the point in forking over 500-600 for a system with no current games but thats just me. id rather wait a year or two before games like MGS4 (rumored to appear on 360 as well, if so then ill forget about PS3 all together) and FFXIII hits the system, who knows sony might declair a pricedrop by then. atleast theirs one good news comming out from sony, it looks as if their new system is region free. gamers in japan already tested tony hawk project 8 and that new marvel game on their japanese PS3 and it loaded and played beautifully, bad news is that it dosnt affect psx or ps2 games.

nintendo will take japan im confident about that. just take their DS for example, people find interest and enjoy playing games in new and unique ways. DS is dominating the handheld arena and surely the Wii will also. the few zelda video's that i watched showed that the nunchuck/wiimote combo of playing is alot of fun, no question that this one game alone will help Wii sell alot of units during launch and help continue selling the weeks after. the mere thought of a online smash bros game makes my mouth water, and the developers of MP3 are claiming their game is alot more richer, sharper, and detailed then MP on gamecube, if that dosnt make you wet i dont know what will. too bad i dont have the money to buy one at launch, my gears of war, FFXII and FFIII for DS should keep me quite busy, and ofcorse i have to cop twlight princess when it arrives for the gamecube this dec 11th :)

So... Who bought a PS3 today?

#429985

Not me, but I finally played with a wii and excite truck.

Excite truck was meh, but the wiimote was fun fun.

#430001

PS3 off course, but like a few others ill wait a few months fo the price to come down, also if i bought it in march i would definately fail my exams in may.

#430011

I just got my new PS3 today and I got the 360 and planning on getting the Wii, to me it doesn't matter which system is the best because without the games these consoles are nothing. The games are the main reason that we buy and play these consoles.

well said. my thoughts are the same, although im getting a wii before the ps3 just because of the price. i'd much rather play next-gen for 250 bucks than 600.
