@ Gerrit, about the nice heavily customized desk: if your menubar shadow is covered with deskshade, how do you put those folders and files on ?

Thanks for the comment, jggame.

The menu part is a combination of a 100% transparant menubar and a Konfabulator widget called guiShade (tweaked to handle Tiger's dropshadow). IOW, no DeskShade.
