Dashboard WidgetDock

ok guys I only changed the temp folder and the WidgetDock.config (used from the previous version) and I dont seem to have any of those problems in konspose or otherwise.

#311557

I don't know if it is a bug, but the 2.6 version keeps closing my konfabulator after adding a widget, it happens in konspose mode, haven't tried in other modes. With WD 2.5 everything works ok.

Just a FYI, D/L the update 2.6 and experienced the same effects of the whole dock closing when "clicking" on an icon in the Dock to open a widge (Added just fine). 2.5 version is fine.

which platform do you use, maybe there is a problem using the com interface of konfabulator under macos. thats the thing i do in the new release because i wanted to close a once opened widget by clicking on the icon again. maybe i have to get it back to the old function.

there is a context menu option to close the dock after open a widget.

Hi SioSae, I really hope you can keep the functionality of closing the widget (if already open) when clicking on a widget dock icon. It makes sense and to me seems a logical function of the dock.

However, I am still experiencing the dock shutting down itself and all of konfabulator when clicking on a dock item. Obviously the item clicked is not launched as Konfab closes itself... my platform:

WinXP MCE SP2 (Fully updated)

Konfabulator 2.1.1

RocketDock

TopDesk v1.3.5

Strokit (Mouse Gestures)

AVG Free Antivirus

UberIcon

I have not touched the context menu options yet, as I was just trying to get it running first. But as you mentioned the context menu, I took a look and tried the "Clear WidgetDock" option... it gives me the "are you sure" dialog, however, the dock's widget(s) are not cleared.

EDIT: I say widget(s) above because in my testing, the 2nd round, I started with an empty config file and added a single widget to the dock and that widget (once, the dashboard calculator, and another time, a dashboard world clock.) Yesterday, clicking on the widget improperly closed konfab and shutdown the dock. Today however, when I click on the world clock, the dock behaves as if all is well, and as if it has launched the widget, (Konfab does not crash, nor the dock.) However, no widget appears. (the only thing I did in between yesterday and today was tried the "Clear WidgetDock" context menu option, which did not remove the widget.

Also, I noticed that when I first click on the left corner activation "sprocket" the dock scrolls into view, however, with one icon in the dock, I see the momentary flash of the same icon in the middle of the (near-empty) dock, before the icon (world clock) settles on the left most edge of the dock. This happens about 60% of the time while opening the dock. I tried getting a screenshot of it but it's too fast to capture.

I hope some of these descriptions help. I'm really excited over your new release and find your dock very useful; a widget management tool, best thing to happen to Konfabulator besides itself ;)

i will comment out the new function and release a version just to get to know if this will solve your problems.

clear widgetdock dont work for you? another function which i haven't touched and is working for me. i'll take a closer look.

Guess Im just lucky then because closing a widget with the dock works fine here.

#311622

Update: It's odd, all of a sudden, the WidgetDock began to work, only momentarily though. I believe, the only thing i did was restart the computer in between. Anyways, a moment ago I click on the only widget i had added to the dock: Ghostwalker's Dashboard WorldClock, and it launched the widget, clicked again, and the widget closed, beautiful. A bit confused tho, (and slightly concerned when something gets fixed mysteriously, and I have no idea why..) I went to add another widget, this time a dashboard calculator. It added fine, clicking on it worked like a charm. Next, I went to add a program.exe. (I noticed in the Widget Manager, that when you add a program, the "enable/disable" checkbox only gives you an "Unchecked" or "Multi Checked (to Spawn them)" choice. Is this intentional? For me, I would suppose this combination:

  • Unchecked = item does not show in the dock but remains readily available via the Widget Manager.
  • Single Check = Dock will launch one instance of a program/folder (And clicked while the program is running: would close the program/folder) (it would be super great if you could do this for folders, and programs as well. Ie, launching & closing Adaware, mediaplayer, etc.)
  • Multi-check = proceeds to launch the program/folder for each time clicked. (ie, notepad)

Will the above be your intended implementation, or do you have something else planned? Anyways, back on topic, I "multi checked" the newly added program (a standalone DesktopX widget.exe "Arcade Game") as that was the only other option available to me besides "disabled." I then, closed the Widget Manager. The program indeed added to the dock. I click on it and it is launched. I click on it again, I hear some audible clicks, nothing happens. After that, clicking on the previous 2 widgets resort back to crashing the WidgetDock and Konfabulator. Reloading Konfabulator and the WidgetDock does not correct the problem. (I'll reboot in a bit and report back if that makes any difference.)

Sorry for the longwinded descriptions, I'm in a bit of a hurry today; I hope these contribute in some way :)

I absolutely agree as do thousands of many others i'm sure.

OK, i redownloaded from your site SioSae version 2.6 again today to have at this fresh. This time instead of adding widgets i simply replaced the WidgetDock.config with the one that's working "flawless" with 2.5. Here is my report.

On first opening 2.6 loads up fine, widgets & all of course, then the very first widget i tried to start there is a momentary hesitation, the one where the widgets about to appear, but instead the whole dock closed down again with KONFAB. OK, when reopening WidgetDock for a second try, the widget that i was selected to open the first time now is loaded also (saved setting lol), however immediately when trying to start another widget the entire dock AGAIN closes along with KONFAB. This is the occurance each time you simply try to start the widget by clicking on one of the dock icons for whatever reason. I not had time to actually survey the KONFAB internal code/scripts for myself to see if i can find where the line is or series that's caused this behavior, maybe when i get caught up on some sleep again this week.

That's my finding with it so far, like mentioned before 2.5 works like a DREAM so i have revertied back to it untill something is determined to see what might be causing the issue with 2.6 for some of us.

I wholeheartily agree with firecracker6 This WidgetDock is absolutley the long missing element for KONFABULATOR, now made possible thanks to your efforts, great work SioSae.

#311723

until i found out why konfab is shuting down on several platforms while using the com interface i disabled the function of closing a open widget by default. you can enable this feature via the widgets context menu.

please redownload the version.

about the ckeck/uncheck/multi-check: my intention was what you supposed it was. until i didn't implement a way to close a program/folder with the dock, i want to show with the multi-check option only that i cant handle closing right now.

I'm really glad to hear that this is your intention. And I understand the multi-check option now. I sincerely hope you are able to implement a 'close of a folder,' and 'closing of a program' from the dock. It would be super slick.

And I'm sure I speak for many of us who look forward to a fix to this crash bug; the few times I got it to work, it was incredibly satisfying. :)

P.S. I was wondering if you ever tried to really quickly, click on multiple dock items in a row. Say, just started clicking from left to right down the dock, fast, closing some widgets, launching others, and spawning some. The reason I asked is because I was wondering if the dock/konfab could handle that. What I would expect is simply slower response time to get through all the clicks (depending on speed of the user's PC) However, I was wondering if you SioSae, or other's could test this out and tell me if all executed well, or if the dock/andor Konfab crashed.

Thanks in advance.

DONE

Odd behaviour continues, this my results after D/L again per your own request. Started up revised 2.6 for first time again with 2.5 WidgetDock.Config and everything loads normally as always. This time when activating a widget from the dock "It Starts!" normally (no shutdown), BUT if you try to apply one of the other widgets from the dock the same shutdown is occuring again. I close out, reboot and tried it all again, and the same still happens.

One thing of importance to you maybe in resolving? i notice in 2.6 as compared to 2.5 which works Fanatastic for me, that when you click to start a widget, there is a momentary "FADE AWAY" of the ICON (Loading widget) wherein 2.5 it is much faster but in 2.6 it appears to hesitate or at least is much slower in that type of response. I hope anything we are offering you about this in behaviour helps you in some small way. This WidgetDock is the Living End, it really is a nice piece of programming indeed.

this is happening even if you disable the "closing of open widgets" feature in the context menu? it is always a little bit shooting in the dark because i didn't get this error on my machines but i thought i solved it by disabling the whole com connection handling. i have to take a closer look why this malfunction is happening.

ANSWER: No

All is performing as normal now since disabling that action in context menu:

#311907

please leave it disabled until i found out why this is happening or until i got an answer from arlo & co.

its good to hear that its working now.

What do you think about making the widgetdock available switching screen position between top and bottom?

SioSae

offtopic: start to make the calendar right now

#312104

What do you think about making the widgetdock available switching screen position between top and bottom?

Yes, yes, yes and absolutely. One thing i personally done already was moving the dock position at the "top" just out of simplicity sakes even though in current state it wouldn't allow to start in that manner.

SioSae, just another great idea many will be happy to learn of. Going thru a Hurricane right now so as soon as that dust settles maybe i can offer up some additional ideas worth considering in the future releases. It's good to see you are enjoying this as much as we are. Thanks :D

#312144

Just to report back. The new 2.6version that places "enable closing of open widgets" as a right-click option works for me. Thanks for this interim release :) your resize feature rocks. Maybe have the handle arrows fade out after a bit? Makes leaving it as a default kinda cool. Oh, your idea to place the dock on the top (or sides, for that matter) would be great. (may need to address multimonitor compatibility?)

I keep getting this error :

"WidgetDock2.6 was unable to load itself sucessfully"

I've got the same problem  :(

KonFab 2.1.1

WidgetDock 2.6

What's wrong :(:(:(

#312476

you have the newest version? ok. actually i dont know why it shouldn't load itself on your machine. if you could turn on debug by changing the debug value in the .kon file of the widget from off to on. make this by renaming the widget file to zip file. inside is the widgetdock.kon and in the third line of code (open the file with notepad or similiar tool) is the debug tag. after doing so try to load it again and tell me if there is any error logged in the debug window.

that would help me getting an answer of your question what might be wrong because i didn't get this error. everything is fine on my machine.

I just had to post and say what an awesome job you have done with this! I'm running Konfab 2.1.1 and widgetdock 2.6 without a hitch. Absolutely flawless so far. Thank you!

#312541

Hey, I'm really sorry if this has been mentioned before but I've been gone a long while and there are WAYY too many posts. I was wondering if it was possible to use the old skin in 2.6 or if we're stuck with the darker new skin.

Thanks!

#312621

no, there is the widgetdock v2.6 with the original skin and the widgetdockMOD v2.6 with the new skin.

both links are available and will be updated.

puuhh, thats strange. it says that the widget wont find the first defined image and the javascript file. cant be. maybe you should try to close the widget and delete the registry entries of it:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePixoriaKonfabulatorWidgetsWidgetDock2.6

delete all widgetdock folders to be sure. i dont know if this will help because i cant test it but after doing this you start the widget without konfab knowing it. and maybe you should delete all the widgetdock directories in

C:Documents and Settings...Local SettingsApplication DataPixoriaKonfabulator

just to be sure. i hope it will help.
