[Release] iChat in MirandaIM - 3 Color Variations

ran into another snag....currently redoing all of the code to see how far I can get doing my own thing. One pixel can muke up all the works.....

Actually I converted a good bit of it into div tags, no tables boys! But then I discovered a new way to layer the bottom mid background area with divs that might also work with the tables. For times sake I may try and go back to the tables.

The whole issue is one pixel under the bubble shows the tables background ground color aka the one solid color of the bubble between the gradients that is naturally there shows up through the one pixel shadow on the bottom mid image.

finally I did it! I got a bubble completely alpha transparent, I think I even got the width of the bubble pixel perfect but the font size in the original seems to be between 12 and 13 of the lucida font for windows..... so either ZTL is using the wrong font (lucida grande) or ichat has a slightly different font. There are many versions of it.

Also to change the background color it is now as simple as changing ONE background property in the CSS file. Instead of the 9 different ones =). I know I played some dirty tricks but it works!

IE7's png gamma is still slightly off, but there is no simple way of compensating for the color difference when I save it to trick IE7 to display the right colors, IE6 has the same problem. I shouldn't have said anything no one would have noticed and probably still won't =P

Which one is the real ichat bubble, yea I didn't think so....

ah I see now lol. I just noticed my unnamed source of ichat bubbles has one missing pixel........I will fix that though =) I would mention where I got it from but ever since *cough* *cough* now one was supose to mention *cough* *cough* the stuff that *cough* guy made. Not like he made them bubbles, just ripped them off screenshots or someone some how got him the actual icons....but I doubt that since there is one missing pixel!

gulp....nevermind....I accidently cut one pixel off.....

This is not the official 0.3 release cuz well this is just the white and blue bubbles and you will have to download and install IE7 beta, I am not going to include it at this time and may never but I will probably try to, eventually it will be out of beta. Use google and find IE7 beta. Also if you want to keeo IE6 while using IE7 go to www.evolt.org and download their standaline version

Here it is white and blue bubbles and you can change the background color by editing the very last property in the CSS file which currently is "white"

well I have now split up the 1 CSS file into 3 parts

1) mainly background color and font size(actually I may split it again so people have changeable font sizes. If you know html you can change the type face too.)

2) recieve bubble

3) send bubble

This will allow changeable bubbles and background colors via javascript and your settings will be saved via cookie. Now I just have to figure out the code for the javascript and the cookie.

btw this will allow for 36 color variations but before it is done it will at least have 100 possible color variations when I add some more colors that are not one of the originals.

Just depends how fast the coding goes, sometimes everything falls into place and does like it should other times something goes haywire and I have to figure out alternatives.

Also unfortunetly the way it has to be coded only solid color backgrounds will work, no wallpapers -.- I might later try and create a complete div only version with no tables but even then I do not know if I'd be able to code it so differently that a wallpaper would work behind the bubbles.

I wish somebody could post a clear straight forward tutorial on how to get the ichat skin and bubbles on miranda, i don't use miranda at all, i would like to know how to get miranda to look like ichat from start to finish. I download the current miranda build(Miranda IM 0.4.0.1, and download the current ieview which is IEView 1.0.4.0, i also im told i need to download the tabSRMM, is the tabSRMM 0.0.8 or the tabSRMM Unicode 0.9.9.98?

Once ive installed miranda and installed the plugins then what?

Ive searched the forums and found that none really that help me, please can someone help?

Well I just found two skins....that are very good ichat clones....I am going to download them and try them out and see what all they have going for them. I might stop improving this one at this point if they are in a much more complete state. And after all this work and code no one told me!!!!

I was in the same boat a month ago lol.... One thing that was not clear to me is what actually skinned and what did not.

IEView- get the latest you can, it only skins the area that outputs your text aka bubbles

Your messaging window WILL NOT be skinned, only skinned by XP or windowblinds.

Tabsrmm - basicly gives you tabs

clist modern - skins your contact list completely, window and all

for more info I believe on page 2 of this thread their is a link to neowins guide, very many pages yes but some where in there it tells you probably on page 2 or 3 how to configure IEView.

Well my plan since I began this ichat thing is to make an installer for miranda and everything preconfigured and ready, but I am not going to do that until it is complete.

One of them comes with two folders for different icons I think(i forget what the file or files are called), and you have to take the stuff out of one of the folders and place it directly in the plugins folder with the rest of the dll files.

oh I see now those two skins I posted earlier were only for AdiumX for Mac OS X a chat program. Completely unrelated to the AdiumX skin for miranda. I thought......

Its code is VERY interesting though, it seems to be a html/css based skinned app aswell. The code almost looks convertable to miranda! And chunks of it undoubtedly is =).

I know I am out of the loop don't make fun of me for not knowing what Adium was plz lol.

umm yes it will have orange bubbles for miranda... if only I understood espanol eh?

One thing I have noticed about the other iChat clones is that they do not have changeable backgrounds and this one will, but the others that don't have bg colors other than just white do have variable color for their bubbles, meaning their bubble can be any color they want. I have put a great deal of though into how to get best of both worlds and as of yet I have no answer....it is either one or the other.

Having said that instead of halting what I am working on I will finish the 0.3 release and onwards until something hits me on how to get the best of both worlds. I have thought up of a couple of solutions but as far as I know their is no way to code either method I came up with.

Basicly one method is to Mask the bubble.......the other method is to create 4 white alias inverted rounded edges that can change their color value via CSS to match the background, then and only then could I be able to change the color of the bubble to ANY color and the background to ANY color, with just code. Thought of applying the bg to the middle div but then I still need color for the 4 corners and once I apply that it will still bleed outside the edge.

Need rounded color area behind 4 corners and 1 with a tail but it can't be an image, that is the problem. Unless I drop custom color backgrounds....

I figured out just now that I can add the bottom corner images and to ensure the correct bubble size for you but your text alignment will still be off vs the alignment that works for me.

Does anyone else have any problems with the iChat bubbles? If so please let me know and I will try and get them all resolved quickly.

Actually it looks like I am off by one pixel on the bubble, I dunno how that happened but I will fix it when I get back from work

@Glitch: one thing I have noticed as I've been working on my Miranda tutorial is that the iChat theme doesn't seem to know what to do if the person I'm talking to doesn't have an avatar. Other themes will substitute a default avatar if the contact doesn't have one, but the iChat just leaves the space blank. Can you perhaps fix this?

It seems like it depends which protocol you use and if you open and close the window it will sometimes fix it. Your avatar a blue haze thing, should always appear, even if your actual avatar is different(at least this is my experience, but I never set my msn avatar in anything but trillian but I notice people I talk to still see my old avatar o0, probably need to set it lol so I can see it too), it is changeable though if you know where the image is. The other party is cached in another folder and normally does not get picked up until the second time u open the window of who your talking to, but I also her aim in miranda does not recieve avatars.

I'll see what I can come up with though.

Yes, one of the things I have noticed is if you connect to a person whose protocol doesn't support avatars (like AIM in Miranda) nothing appears at all. Mine appears just fine as the default icon I set in the iChat folder, but the "them" icon does not seem to work...I looked at the html/css and I think it's 'cause there is nothing in there on what to do if no avatar exists...

The iChat config works just fine if the avatars are there.
