My 3 New Opera Skins

It seems your webpage has been updated? .. anyway, i've re-downloaded the skins again and all now seem to be working. The only request I would make is for 'square' skins to be made available, so those of us who like the colour-scheme/buttons, etc.. can use the skins but with none-rounded edges; .. having the Hotlist panel open looks so *ugly* because of the rounded edges all over, and causes all kinds of screen glitches (horizontal lines appear in the hot-list window when scrolling down) ..

Otherwise .. great set of skins!

I think you are wrong :) I tried d/ling them again and still crashed my opera all the time.

I'm still using the 'Leche' with no problem (downloaded earlier) and not sure why other skins crashes.

great skins... to bad they are for opera, maybe i`m gonna give that browser a try B)

#24921

Well, they were definately working for me this morning (very surprised) .. I might have re-selected the "classic" (orginal) skin in Opera beforehand and also turned off "Special Effects" (from the Skin Menu) .. maybe that made all the difference? .. but they have been working for me.

I must admit though, I am now very dissapointed with the skins.. purely on the basis that they look nice in 'screen shots' but in actual use are not very enjoyable *if* you have the hotlist(bookmark) panel on .. there seems to be some kind of line that appears whenever you scroll (as said earlier) ... the slower you scroll through the bookmarks the more lines appear.. so its some kind of screen update glitch in that area..

I altered the 'edge' folder with some of the icons from SofaKing (my normal fave skin) to get rid of the 'curved' edges.. made the hotlist look nicer *but* the horizontal lines are still there..

Ok, I'm going to explain this with my basic english:

If you read all the topic you'll notice that what I make was only for enjoy some mac emulation but with all the limits the opera skin system has (ie. when trying to get rid of the rounded boxes in hotlist I ask it at the opera forums and I had this:

I hate to say it but its kinda an all or nothing situation. Opera will not allow you to specify what is skinned and not skinned. Therefore you have two options.

Use a different skin

Change\modify the skin your using

Thats actually how I got into creating my own skins. Wish there was a better solution.

This means that there's no solution about it.

1- I'm not trying to become a professional opera skinner (I only saw that I didn't like any opera skin at that time and start to make one). I'm a graphic designer with some spare time.

2- Since I used to be in this community, I like to share what I do. Not a final product to put in a market shelf, only what I do (You can see in the webpage you visit to download the skins that every pixel I made -related to this- is there to share with everyone, even when they dont adapt for everyone needs)

3-I have a solution for you and all the other opera crashers (dont know if this word exists): You can use the opera skin of your choice from the opera site and if you like the buttons made by me, you can make a copy of the skin file and replace the folder "2nice" (where all the buttons are) and you will have a "pro" skin with some nice buttons (I wrote about this at this forum too -April, 24).

4-What you see in the screenshots is exactly what I have today while writing this reply. I dont worried about some glitchs if this means to me to use those Sofa, Azur, Volter, Snow Mac Os (dont like any of these official opera skins). They have a lot of professional work but dont have nothing about the graphic aesthetic you can find in apple designers (I'm a graphic designer, I can see the difference). So, you choose.

5- I dont claim for any author rights (although I made them with .PSD files not only copy and paste from others) so you can make the combination and mods you are more confortable and share it with us.

well, "game over" with my english...

thank you all for give this feedback

The skins work fine for me, I am used all of them them with no problems....keep up the great work. Can't wait for the new release. B)

:D Sorry, Fer, didn't mean to put pressure on you. It's not that we are ungrateful, but we really love the skins and hope everyone can enjoy your hard work! As u said, all current opera skins don't suit my taste at all (I'm still using the standard opera skin till you came along :))

Just keep up the good work and we will be much happier if you keep enhancing this skin and share it with us.

Btw, 2 of the skins now work fine, I don't know why. I was playing a long with the skin files; moving them to profile/skins and skins/ folder, changing skins and suddenly the safa 1.1 and chimera works without crashing.

I still don't know why although I'm happy that it's working now! At least in my work place.. hope when I get home I can re-produce the same case and manage to get it working.

Will tell u guys later if it works at my home computer - for those of you that still can't use the skins.

Notes to Fer: I don't really care about the circling edges around the hotlists or so, it's a nice skin overall! Don't get discouraged

Okay, well, before none of them worked for me. So I gave up. I then deleted most of the ones that didnt work, and re-downloaded them from here into my "Skins" folder. I didnt touch the profile folder. I just selected the skin from the skin menu, and it worked  Awesome skins

#25673

i have tried brushed and it works fine for me! even the menu inside one button! Very nice skins ;D

#25689

Yea I guess Fer must have fixed it somehow.. ?

#25690

no i tried it at once it came out. i dont know, but maybe it wont work on some versions of Opera.

#25691

Well, it sounds good for me.

The only thing I've done was re-upload but I haven't change anything on them. I test the skins even in my P1 150mhz laptop and never a crash. All of them work "like a violin". But I use always the same Opera installation file, so maybe the problem can be the differents builds, dont know really.

If everything is ok now, u may want to download an alternative of Quimera with the Azur 1.3 buttons (by Christian Krebs), at my

site, it is a little slow BTW.

Edit: "like a violin"= a strange translation of something we used to say here in Argentina.

Hey Elysium I think you didn't understand anything.

Don't say you are the author of your "Oddissey something" skin that you uploaded to the Opera site. I don't have any problems if you use all the buttons of one skin i've made but don't say you are the author inside the skin.ini and at the opera site.

Look at my previous posts and you will understand how to proceed when you use some others work.

In 62 replies at this thread, you DID the only non friendly comments about these and you are the only one that published it as your own work.

Like I said in a previous post: (Posted: May 7 2003, 03:18 PM) > "I dont claim for any author rights (although I made them with .PSD files not only copy and paste from others) so you can make the combination and mods you are more confortable and share it with us"> ......

So I'm waiting for you to come back here and share you hard work with us.

;)
