1 - Simple Minds.
The most versatile band ever. They have made punk, new wave, rock, pop, folk rock, disco stuff, and much more. Interesting to poetical lyrics, highly interesting.
2- The men they couldnt hang (yeah thats their name)
Folk Rock. Check them out - just great, simple, honest music.
3- Marillion
Few others actually survived changing the frontman/singer. They did - great music, and great lyrics too. The only band I ever found to include a note on how to use one of their albums: "Play it loud with the lights off" ("Brave")
4- U2
Guess you know them 
5- Queen
Pretty self-explanatory as well 
From now on the numbering gets tough, so here's the rest in no particular order:
Talking Heads (Check out "Live during wartime!"), AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Sisters of Mercy, The Hooters, Ultravox/Midge Ure, INXS, David Bowie, The Primitives, Die toten Hosen, Die Aerzte, The Smiths/Morissey, The Stranglers, Seal, Fisher-Z, Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, Herbert Groenemeyer, Peter Gabriel, The Alarm, Mike Oldfield, and so much more...
Mainly Guitar-orientated music from the 80ies.
Btw: Punk has faded away during the eighties. If you really want to listen to PUNK, get Sex Pistols or PIL and listen to them. It was a movement of agressive anarchism, trying to overthrow the establishment. There are still a few groups with similar motives, but they do no longer represent a major movement.
