Winplosion: Try to exclude objectdock for the list. I have winplosion and I excluded lots of program that is not rectangular form.

I'd go with this, the main reason is Shane's support of the app is far superior to Winplosion.

agreed. shane works hard to keep improving this program, that i can totally vouch for him. and as far as winplosion being faster? not in my opinion, plus winplosion doesn't have live preview or the cool animations.

#227012

The text just appears as blocks of white bits.

Could you please send me a screenshot of this behaviour?

the winplosion has better performance and usage

If you want better performance in Entbloess, try changing some of the settings. The following settings have a major increase on speed:

Set background to none.

Set animation to slide (as opposed to slide and fade).

Don't get any previews.

Disable Always obtain a preview for the foreground window.

Quality -> Medium.

Turn off "Zoom previews when highlighted."

I'm not suggesting you do all of these. But by using certain options you can increase performance significantly.

Whoa... okay, I have no idea why that would be happening. It seems to be related to an inability to perform alpha-transparent sprites, but then the shadows are alpha transparent.

What are your Windows Font Smoothening settings? What font are you using in Entbloess? Does your video card force anti-aliasing?

#227193

I can confirm the blocky text. My video card like someone before me is a GeForce 4 MX Go 420. All my video card settings are default. I reinstalled the drivers to make sure. Windows font smoothing font is set to ClearType. I'm using the default font in Entbloess. I also tried using Lucida Grande, Verdana and MS Sans Serif

#227202

Ok I figured out what's causing the bug. It occurs only if I select desktop as background. If I select no background the text is normal.

#227205

Okay thanks, I'll look into that.

#227206

I notice these errors etc are only happening on GF related cards. What are you using in your dev machine Shane?

#227227

On my laptop I have my on-board Intel. That's the same as all the computers I have direct access to. Most of the computers that I have indirect access to have either a Radeon or GeForce2-3 series.

I remember StarDock mentioning this problem in their postmorten of The Political Machine at Gamasutra. I'll read it later on and find the exact details, and in turn this should lead to a solution.

#227235

Hi I think we should spead the news to the world. This is such a wonderful program and buy it if you like! Let the developer has the motivation to carry on this excellent project!

Winplosion is far behind from Entbloess... if you like Winplosion you will definite amazed by Entbloess... do some tweak and Entbloess can as fast as Winplosion...

Keep on the good work. You make me rethink the ability of the windows rendering enginee...

just my 2 cent... ;)

#227311

thanks sid, no desktop image fixed the problem...though it kind of sucks because that was a cool feature to have the desktop shown with a nice tint in the background. I love this app, the animations are cool and the fading is cool, the only thing is the speed, but you've made a buyer out of me Shane :)

#227317

To all those people experiencing text problems, does turning off background tint-color get rid of this issue?

#227321

the only thing is the speed

Remember that Entbloess lets you customize it enough to get decent speed even on my 16MB video card.

To all those people experiencing text problems, does turning off background tint-color get rid of this issue?

Whoa, I'm quoting myself... I've built a new update. Please go to

Start->All Programs->Entbloess 2->Check for Updates and download the patch. That should fix the text-display problems. Please tell me whether it does or not. This is just a quick update to get it working on people's computers, so it doesn't feature all the changes I was planning by this version.

#227338

shane, i would hit you up on msn but you're offline right now. apparently this patch messes up the display background. now even though i have use desktop image enabled, it's just all black. even when i manually set it to my wallpaper, it's still all black. guess i will be going back to the previous version.

#227347

lol thanks shane but I can't test out the new version coz my trial runs are up. I used them trying to figure out what was causin the bug. Ironical isn't it? ;)

#227377

okay, i downloaded the update and the text blocks are unfortunately still there. The first time that i ran the test i had the background set to tint, and it didn't show the desktop but appeared all black like sid was reporting. Then i turned off the tint and i could see the desktop picture in the background, but the text blocks were still there. Wierd. In any case, about the speed...i know what you're saying, i'm just excited about future optimizations that's all :)

#227388

The update does not work.

I noticed that "update the foreground window's preview at regular intervals" caused higher CPU usage i.e. 25-35% at P3, in normal windows [not Entbloess mode]...

#227413

Well, my "blocks" are gone. The only thing I changed is I made entbloess not show my desktop background when I press F9. That did it I believe.

#227426

Okay I have taken that release down.

I know what the problem is, but apparently it must be harder to solve than I thought.

#227435

Okay I've fixed the background issue. I'm going to go to a friend's house who has a GF and then work on it there and then I'll post the new build later on today.

#227444

tested and it does work. =) good job once again.

#227447

Hi all,

I went to my friend's. He has a GeForce MX 5200 and I didn't experience the problem in any of the three versions of Entbloess I tried (2.4, 2.5, 2.6, all at Best Appearance).

If anyone who is experiencing this problem is willing to help me get this problem sorted and has MSN Messenger, please do so. I added my MSN address to my profile. It would be appreciated, and shouldn't take very long.

EDIT: No longer neccesary, thanks to those who helped.

#227616

okay...having the same problem with the "update foreground window at regular intervals" causing the CPU to jump. The text block issue is still there, and you can add me to your MSN if you want to talk to someone to get it fixed.....coolsool@hotmail.com is my passport ID, but i might not be on until monday. Anyways, I hope this gets fixed soon, love this app!!!
