Ok, i'm in a bit of a hurry, but you can change all those options. I'm using 4.4 as well, and I haven't got those problems. They are just options you can change, play around with the "Contact List" options in Miranda.

yeah, sure, sorry for not posting it earlier, i was on my way out. here it is. only checked options are listed, the ones that aren't listed, aren't checked. sorry about the redundancy, just wanted to make myself clear.
Options-Contact List: Hide offline users, Hide empty groups, Ask before deleting contacts, Show global icons when status differ, Sort contacts by name.
Options-Contact List-Contact Display: My custom name.
Options-Contact List-List: Hide group counts when there are none online, Sort groups alphabetically, Scroll list smoothly.
Options-Contact List-Status Bar: Uncheck 'Show status bar'
Options-Contact List-Window: Minimize to tray, Easy move, Show title bar.

i get a run time error when i try to set the smiles ? any idead
also with the smile plugin enabled i cant open a chat window with out it crashing my meesnager

I had similar problems...
1. Close Miranda & delete your SmileyAdd-plugin
2. Download the Database Editor++ and add it to your plugins-directory
3. Remove all SmileyAdd-settings (Main Menu -> Database Editor++)
4. Close Miranda again and download the newest SmileyAdd-plugin
This solved my problems, I hope it helps you too...

Is there anyway to get the emotions toolbar in the message window to the top of the window, like in the real proteus? I have seen a winbox pc with this configured, if I find the screenie i'll post it.

Hmm, I'll try and implement that. If you could ask the owner of the screeny, that'd be awesome too.
You know what, that happens to me too DarkVageta. I think it has to do with when you set an avatar to a certain word, it shows the avatar image you set the word too.

lol yeah, I'd recommend downloading that mod, seriously, it's that good.
Yea, I mean I've had it for 4 days now, its just, there are so many plug-ins that I have no idea what they do, and arrrhhh. That's one thing I always hated about miranda, though its customizable, just to darn confusing for a slow poke like me. I like your mod its simple . I hope you release a custom mod david, and some bgs too
