[release] Miranda To Proteus Mod

Hey guys, how's it going? Well after much work today, miranda's kinda looking like Proteus, here's a screeny.

How to do it:

-First off download tabSRMM 0.0.8 here and put it in your Miranda\Plugins folder..

-Now download tabsrmm_unicodel.dll and place it in your Miranda\Plugins folder.

-Next off, download SmileyAdd plugin and put it in your Miranda\Plugins folder.

-Download Proteus.msl and Proteus.dll. Put them both in your Miranda\Smileys folder.

-Now open up Miranda, go to Options->Events->Smileys and in the field "Smiley Library" browse for the "Proteus.msl" file in your Miranda\Smileys folder.

-Go to Options->Contact List->List and set "Ident groups by:" 15 pixels.

-Go to Options->Events and make sure only the following options are checked in the following fields:

Message containers: Hide tab bar if there is only one tab, Enable popups if minimized, Show contacts name, Show container name in title bar -> Never.

Message tabs: Limit nicknames on tab to 15 characters, Hide status bar, Use flat buttons.

Messaging Log: Show names, indent events: 5 pixels, Ignore per-contact log settings, Load unread events only. Also, change the font and message background color here.

-Next download some nice icons for Miranda. Download these and exchange them with your current Miranda icons in Options->Contact List->Icons. I'm not gonna explain how to do that, since it's pretty straight foward. Note: The icons in this iconpack are in PNG format, you need to convert them to ICO format using an appropriate application. Iconworkshop does the work well, and so does Ave's application. If you prefer to have the chat bubbles as icons instead of colored iChat circles, please download On1y's Miranda icons: Go to this thread and download the tutorial there. Unrar the file. Inside the rar you'll find a folder called "Files". Copy the file iChat.dll from the "Files" folder to your Miranda folder and use the icons inside the iChat.dll to replace the icons in your Miranda using Options->Contact List->Icons.

-Now download the Contact List background. I suggest saving it to your miranda folder and keeping it there.

-Go to Options->Contact List->List Background and select the file you just downloaded (background_tiny.jpg). Make sure just the following options are checked: Use background bitmap, Stretch to width, Tile vertically, Scroll with text.

-Go to Options->Contact List->List Text and set the font to Arial, size 14 and bold. Set row height to 22.

-Now for the hassle. Open up Proteus.msl in a text editor (I recommend notepad) and check the last entries. Those entries tell Miranda which text strings will be replaced by emoticons. Change the values I use for the ones you want to use. For example if you nickname in MSN is Mike, change the value

Smiley = ".\Proteus.dll", -128, "David: " to

Smiley = ".\Proteus.dll", -128, "Mike: "

Please note that the negative number (-128) indicates which image from the Proteus.dll file will be used. Please open up Proteus.dll with reshacker or whatever and check out the available avatars and icons, feel free to use whichever you want by replacing the numbers on the Proteus.msl file with the icons you desire to use.

-That's pretty much it I guess. You can mod it a little further, set the messages background to silver or something, or the font, but that's straight foward. I hope you find this helpful.

NOTE! For some people, the tabSRMM dll file is called tabsrmm_unicode.dll not tabsrmm_unicodel.dll. Please change the name of the modded file before replacing if this is your case.

Edit: Fixed the links.

I have a problem, when I put my name in and then put a avatar number from the proteus.dll, it shows like 5 images. Any ideas? Also, is there no way to make it display the avatar if you rename the contact, cause then you'll have to rename the person, everytime they change their nick, on msn.

1) Please send me your Proteus.msl to davidjairala[at]gmail.com

2) Well, the beauty of Miranda is you can change the names of your contacts, and those names, the ones you change, stay that way forever, getting rid of that whole issue :)

Note: Please keep in mind that you have to look for the number of the emoticon you're gonna use (in the Proteus.dll file) in the "Icon Group" part, not the "Icons" part if opened through ResHacker.

Nevermind David, I got it to work. I renamed some people, but me being the slow dumbass I am, put capitals and blah... It works great!! Thanks for the help though I really appreciate it. Just 1 more thing though, anyway to have the text you and the person you talk to appear on adium-like backgrounds? Would be awesome if you could!!

Thanks again David!!! :D

Just experience another problem, sometimes when I type, it won't send the message through. Maybe because of some of the plugins? I remember when I put the plugins you told me too, a message popped up which said 3 plugins do the same thing (the tabsrmm_unicode.dll, tabsrmm_unicodel.dll, and tabsrmm.dll ), since I couldn't see the full names (since it wouldn't resize). I just choose one. It's just annoying, but something I would definitely like to fix if possible. :D

is it possible to use multiple accounts (2 yahoo!, 3 MSN at once) with miranda?

#215961

It is. Just copy and rename the files in your Miranda/plugins directory, so you'll have yahoo.dll, yahoo2.dll, msn.dll, msn2.dll, msn3.dll.

You can also have several users (hold Ctrl before start Miranda to create new user), and run multiple instance of Miranda at the same time.

Open up Miranda and go to Options->plugins and make sure tabSRMsgW(unicode)-------0.0.8.0-------tabsrmm_unicodel.dll is checked, and the other tabSRMsgW(unicode) plugins are unchecked.

hi holden... first off I really like the mod but I had a question. It seems that my smileys are really small and jagged. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks

Yea I have the same problem bro, also is there any way to take away the emoticons shortcut on the middle bar of the chat window? thx a bunch ;)

#216116

go to options and events and then smileys. See that smiley sections, check that to off ;)

#216129

Time for an addition to my newspost.

Great work!

#216130

I just downloaded Miranda for this, but it's not logging into AIM... just MSN.

Any help would be appreciated :(

Great mod though

#216142

@bzeitler, foxor: Yeah, some people have been reporting this as of late. Till I can fix this what I recommend is download Pe7er's iChat.dll, it contains emoticons for the SmileyAdd plugin, I think it's over at deviant art, I dunno, google it. Then once again open up Proteus.msl and edit the emoticons so instead of searching for them in Proteus.dll it searches for them in iChat.dll.

@Derelikt: Yeah, this is a reported problem about Miranda, not my mod. I actually experience the problem from time to time, but it always ends up connecting.

I don't know why I've got the close button on the right side (using windowblind with left side button), I've tried searching the option to change that to the left side but I couldn't find it. Here is the screenshot

if I uncheck that option, it will bring up a taskbar button for miranda (which isn't your case) and I only have 2 buttons maximize and minimize, and the miranda's menu goes under the first group. Another screenshot here
