Aqua-Soft ForumsseXXI, I think ont was refering to the bottom side of the monitor. It's like 4 times a wide as the other three. Granted they had to make room for the space that the LCD takes up, but I would rather have more depth than a huge forehead (or afthead?). I know that Seph doesn't like a biug forehead.

IMO it looks stupid.
it's good at space-saving, but the screen is kinda high that's all. hehe. it's price is reasonable. can'twait to save up. i just wished that apple still sells the old imac. it's still beautiful.

My excact thoughts. I think it's kinda ugly, looks like a 5 year-old lcd screen with a new paint-job.
I agree also, I thought the whole purpose of making the new lcd monitors where to save space (meaning allowing maximum desktop room) and not a clunky design.
Me agrees too; I don't really like the big white space under the LCD...it just looks too clunky. But overall it is a pretty good machine. Only con is that it comes with 256 ram. The higher model (20') should come with 512 minimum and they should have at least have a BTO GPU option.
Lot's or people are saying that the GPU is good enought since this is a consumer product but how many people are there that can't afford a G5 tower and get iMacs. I'm sure they would like it to be powerful enough for any game.
I am sorry, but an FX5200 is powerful enough for any game. Sure, if you want to impress your other friends with the benchmarks from a radeon or something of the likes you might not be up to par (HOW UNCOOL!)
Mind you this is a computer for people who dont want any hassles; a plug and use computer for the average consumer.
I do agree on the 512 of ram. The latter model shoul've included that.
$1,300 starting for that GPU? Apple has lost its mind. They're pushing last gen hardware in a shiny new package... looks to me that they asked the warehouse guys what they needed to clean out then sent a list of crap to the design department.
imo opinion, it doesnt come close to the g4 imac, well, maybe a little. but i wasnt expecting it too, i dont really see how apple could of out done that, however i do think it looks really nice

some people (that have been saying it's bulky and stuff) have been forgetting that that is NOT just an LCD screen: it's an ENTIRE COMPUTER!
an FX5200 is the card i got... and sincerely... it's getting outdated... FAST! i wish they had a more powerful card on the high end model. and about the 256MB of ram, you can customize to make it have up till 2GB
of coarse you can customize it, but setting it to a 512 minimum would make more sense to make Panther and all of the iLIfe apps runs smooth enough.
That's just me 2 cents of coarse and nobody has to agree.
It's just like a laptop glued to the back of an LCD??

I really don't think that Apple decided the large white bottom border would be cooler than having all the bevels the same width. I'm sure they think Timan's design looks better but I seriously doubt they could fit the reset of the computer somewhere in there.
Yes, abba, but had they made it WIDER instead of LONGER the screen could still be widescreen, and still may have enough room for everything, if not, stick speakers in the white space...no?

Click on a few of the larger gallery images.. At the bottom it says "Copyright 2003 Apple Computers" - So they're either had a prototype done since at least december, or they're had to wait for 970FX production to chug up some. Either way; it's a fine GPU. It'll allow Tiger users to use CoreImage, hardware accelerated (that's if they implement some sort of roll-back system so that GPUs not good enough will pass the computing onto the CPU, but I doubt they will). Believe it or not the market the iMac is aimed for is not aimed at people who give a flying fudge bout FPS-rates in games. It's the 'digital hub' meant to be simple and elegant for people who want/need to be able to unpack, plug in and go. Yes quite a few people on forums will say otherwise (‘Well I will’ etc) but notice what kind of forums - definitely the kind where middle aged women will be looking for recipes (to point just one example).
And that's not touching on the heat issue.

making it wider instead of having the white border at the bottom would look better, but I don't think they could 'split up' what is contained in that space. in other words, I think it'd have to be lopsided on one side if they did that.
