Funny how everyone wants to bash Lou. This from a forum filled with people that use P2P networks, rip music illegally and violate every copyright they can get away with. Most of you girlies need a cup of STFU. This past week has really made me wish I'd never helped found this site, as most of you bastards are whining hypocrits.
Good work Lou. If I was you, I'd make an entire set of Minimum icons, release them before Sasha (who takes way too f*cking long to complete his previewed works) and then accuse him of violating your copyright just to prove a point! Sasha has released nothing, the minimum look is still open to the first person that actually releases a finished work.
As for those of you that want to diss Lou for actually making these icons from scratch, step the f*ck back and look at your avatars, which in themselves are copyright rips of someone elses work. And thats just a start - dont get me going, you guys don't have the experience or background to say a thing to Lou.
i tried to keep out of this once it turned into a big flame, but ill say that i completly agree with dz, and all of you that wanna rag on lou here can just shut the F up and leave

Not really. While Lou is really doing nothing wrong here, we have had situations in the past in which artists have been extremely upset that their work was stolen and/or recreated without credit or permission. So saying that getting permission is "passe" is wrong in my opinion. As an artist myself, I can vouch that having your work ripped off sucks.
Anyways, good work reproducing the icons Lou, it takes some talent to recreate someone else's work. I can see your Photoshop skills growing before my very eyes, young padawan.

DZ do you actually ever want to see any icons made again?
While Lou made a good job of copying these icons, what are the chances he could've actually created these originally, ie, without Sasha's input at all. (not that Im questioning lou's artistic integrity, we all know hes great).
Sasha however, as we all know, was the innovator of these icons, we all know if Lou has gone ahead and released his version of them then we wouldn't be seeing Lou in a looong time.
Apparently none of us have the background or experience to say a word against Lou, but we all do, even someone that joined yesterday. This is a community.
At this point I'd like to tell everyone that since ave gave me some opensource version of AveDesk 1.2, I will now be distributing under the name AlDesk and then telling him to remove his right to claim that he is the maker of avedesk, since he's taking so long and all. That dutch bastard, trying to steal my thunder, and my Carlsburg. I'll get ye!!

take another look - i said the permissions issue is passe. i'm all for getting permissions when needed, but i think there are a lot of people around here that are more than a little hypocritical when it comes to permissions. i totally agree with DZ.
i think there is a difference between outright rips (which are bad) and using your OWN talent, time, effort, code, images or whatever else that YOU create to emulate/port a style or idea or prog (which is fine). the boo-birds confuse the two a bit too often for my liking which lead me to say that the issue is passe.
it is good to have you back though.

i really disagree with you on a lot of levels, especially about:

people will always continue to make icons, regardless of the fact that there are people out there that will rip them. the actual people may come and go, but icon production is not going to stop anytime soon.
and that sarcastic bit about AveDesk and AlDesk is a huge metaphorical exaggeration and has no relevance to the situation at hand. sasha didn't give lou any starter psd files - lou took a public image that sasha released and made his own, similar version. further, he's not claiming the concept to be his own, it just his take on that style.
This is ridiculous. My post wasnt meant to be flame-worthy. I was just stating the obvious: I mean if you can't wait for damn icons to be released and you go and spend time to recreate them yourself. It kind of dampens all that which is creativity or maybe Lou has way too much time on his hands.

I completely agree with Stefanka. This is no talent, only reproduction. And playing dangerous games with Sasha. I'm sure he will be pissed off when he sees it, so I am thinking about deleting this topic.

I agree with DeathZombie's opinion... It's suspicious that we respect so much Sasha's unreleased work and we don't do it at all in another respects... Being sincere, with the same arguments you are using against Lou all our desks and works would be commiting an outrage against apple rights in the same way. Rights are rights.. this are my thoughts..And besides he hasn't distributed his copy! I'm witness of that.
