[release] Flyakitesp1 V6.0

Thanks for the quick replay Flyakite. I appriciate that.

If you used batchmod the dialogs and context menus will not change.    There is no way around this unless you install them normally, but then you may have system problems and all the text will be in English.

In your v. 5.1 I did the full install (english on top of dutch version).

Only troubles were the obvious mixture of native dutch & english interface and the trouble with network settings (details on settings not showing), which I've read with others too.

I started to use batchmod for the need to use windows-update and still wanting to have the Aqua look. Besides, off course a non-mixture interface as far as language is concerned is a positive side effect.

How comes it is not possible to change the layout with a costom install?

Be it with batchmod or another tool? If I choose extract only with your installer, a whole lot gets extracted, including screensaver, cursors & wallpapers, not only the .dll/.exe/.cpl's. What's the problem with also allowing to extract the (registry?) hacks that allow the layout/sizes to change?

I know there are alot of users who do not use an english version of winXP and I'm sure that they would want the complete mod.

Would you please reconsider to include this as an option in a future upgrade (v. 6.1 ?), besides looking into the problem with comctl32.dll that the other members describre?

For now, I've got myself a NortonGhost-copy of the pre-modding state,

so I'm just gonna be bold and get myself a full install. Hope it works out ok...

Okay I've been looking through the posts here and I think most of the problems everyone is having with the crashes is related to comctl32.dll.

My suggestion to everyone is find the normal comctl32.dll (not comtle32_1 or anything like that)  file in the backup folder which by default is "C:\WINDOWS\_BACKUP" and replace the one in system32 with the backup.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

yeah it's definitly the comctl32.dll file

I went and replaced it and everything I stated I had a problem with all works now

thanks Chris

Very bad idea. After the bootscreen, WinXP gave me the dreaded BSOD 'system halted'. And that didn't change after a couple of reboots. Murphy's law pur sang I guess.

This time, I was prepared :smartass: , I mean I was smart enough to make a ghost image on different partition beforehand, remember.

Now just reboot, put in the bootdisk and...wait a minute...where did I put that bootdisk? I DID create a bootdisk, right? OMG...omgomgomg...

[could have been a terrible storie, but was able to create the bootdisk on my g/f's pc, so end's wel, al's wel :naughty: ]

Morale: don't overwrite a dutch verion op WinXP pro with an english one, if Flyakite advises against it, boy & girls

#199245

quick question, do i need to uninstall 5.0 before installing 6.0?

#199453

hhahahahahahahaha. that's so funny. using your girlfriend's computer to create a bootdisk. that's so cute. i wished i could that, but i don't have a girlfriend and instead i have 2 computers in my room. anywaz, flyakite, either remove ctl32.dll or fix the bug. then it would be perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the love of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Message Forwarded From flyakite

The dialog sizes/layout are resources actually embedded inside the files.  BatchMod could be written to extract the layout BUT the layouts actually have the text for the dialogs in them, meaning it defeats the purpose of batchmod since there is absolutely NO way for ANY program to extract the layout but retain the native language.

So sorry, the only way to get the layout is to install on an English system or extract the files and just use Replacer instead of BatchMod, but your dialogs WILL be in English.

Hope you understand,

Chris Kite

Chris,

Again, thanks for the reply.

I want the full experiance of your systemfilesmod.

Really, I couldn't care less if the language get's mixed up, because that was also the case with the first time I used your 5.1 version with a full install.

The only reason I started to use batchmod was for the windows-update screwing up my icons again and again and I wanted to maintain the Aqua-look.

A full install of version 6 obviously isn't gonna work since I tried that recently and it left me with the BSOD (see quote way below for the details as a matter of entertainment).

So, what are my options, besides the obvious live with it, which I d or go buy a Enlish version of WinXP pro (bit pricey, ehh?)?

Replacer could change the those dialogue's/layout (for instance display settings, etc.) for me? What does it doe differently

On the AS-board there are problems reported with using the user32.dll ctl32.dll comctl32.dll, so I should exclude them in the Replacer-script?

It's gonna be trail and error I guess (but this time I've got the ghost image & the appropriate bootdisk :naughty: )

See the AS-boards for the rest of the story.

Whish you good luck with the prefection of your installer.

I hope SP2 doesn't screw it up bigtime.

Wish there was a way to prevent win-update/the sp's

from reverting the icons to the original Xp-ones

Sincere greetings,

A terrible promblem occured in my computor!!

When I finished installing it, restarted the computer, then I was not able to enter XP again. My system crashed!!

It shows that after the boot screen, it restarted. And I can't enter the Safe Mode.

So who can help me?? Or who can give me the command of "revert system" in DOS mode??

This same thing happened to me, I cannot log into my computer, the logon screen is gone. I'm on an english computer, so I'm not real sure what is wrong. I just wanted to report this, I guess so that it is known that this can happen on a computer w/ english as the language. I'll give anymore info if needed so as to help fix this problem. This new version sounds great, I wish I could see it! :( Now I'm just waiting to get my hands on a xp install cd on Monday so I can at least see my desktop. Man, two days with no computer...sniff. j/k

Cysco,

It's the subfolders.

Copy the files from the subfolders to the main folder

and you should be fine ;)

Well I had the same "Explorer wouldn't load up" issue the first time I rebooted, but then I rebooted into safe mode, attempted to copy the backup comctl32.dll over the modded one, then loaded back up to normal, and it started working fine.

I'm having issues copying comctl32.dll, a task was using it, so I'm gonna re-read the thread more carefully... the answer's probably in there somewhere.

edit: Well, I just ended up booting into XP Home (This is XP Pro) and replacing the file with the XP Home version... so no task would be using it. Wonder how the installer managed to get past the "already in use" error in the first place.

Quite a piece of work that installer. :D

Nice job on the excellent work, Flyakite! :woot:

#200996

Downloading now ver. 6.0 so don't know if it will work as fine as previous ver. 5.1. In any case thanks for all the aaaaawesome!!! job. Let's not forget ICEMAN that started it all. Thank you!! java script:add_smilie("^_^")

SSE, please mind the warnings posted earlier in this thread though:

If you have Hyperthreading, DO NOT install the boot screen, and as soon as you install the thing, immediately replace C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\COMCTL32.DLL with the one from C:\WINDOWS\BACKUP\COMCTL32.DLL.

Also note that the first reboot may do some odd things. It will take 2 or 3 reboots before things look normal. There are numerous cases of explorer.exe not loading on the first reboot. If this happens and you don't know how to load programs, you can hit ctrl-alt-del and hit New Task (Run)... and it will let you load up programs or reboot your computer.

Hmm... yes... er... hi... new here ^^

I have a strange problem (or so it seems), every time I press the keypad, er, key /, windows menu popups in EVERY application I use... but using the SHIFT+7 combination doesn't popup the menu ...

I think this post goes here because it started as soon as I installed flyakite 6.0... does anyone else has this problem? its REALLY annoying (you press the key, followed by a letter, and the program with that key starts >.< (imagine typing A and Photoshop opens... REALLY ANNOYING <_< ))

any suggestions or something?

oh, and hi again...

Really appreciate the advice!!!

Installed ver.6.0 some files were not eventually replaced due to different versions on my system, but so far everything seems OK. You mean that i should anyway replace comctl32.dll even if every seems working fine?

Thank you in advance!

I consider a crash when you try opening up a program and it gives you some error

and NO, I dont understand...but thanks for letting me know if there

is a problem I just need to reinstall each program.

The file 'comctl32.dll' may be corrupt. I replace this with the similar on Danimator's pack and all it works. Use replacer.

Make yourself the luckiest today!

will a version 6.0 be released for SP2 - or do we have to wait for version 7.0

i don't think he'll release sp2 version

:(

#201775

Well as most of you know Flyakite is gone right now, and he won't be able to help or tell us anything, unless he connects to the internet through his cellphone which is very seldom. But when he returns he will be able to clear up any questions and decide whether he wants to v6.0 over on sp2.

#201857

Okay just to let everyone know, a version WILL be released for SP2. However it will not be until late September because I have other things right now that require my attention.

It will be FlyakiteSP2 v1.0. Development will cease on FlyakiteSP1 as well. And with FlyakiteSP2 after the initial release small patches will be designed for the occasional files that get updated through Windows Update, so that I don't have to update the entire installer and make a new version every time.
