I made a recording of the tabbed dock and the fly out menu on my system (2.4mb download):
Object Dock Plus Is Like Drag Thing
It's static. I will have no use for the tagged docks but glad to see the ability to have multiple docks running which I think should have been implemented for free with the regular version. Just my opinion
Dragthing is like this on OSX and that is what I was looking for so this suits me just fine.

I agree with you. If Jeff wants us to pay for a tabbed dock with great potential it's its choice but the fly-out menu should be part of the free version.
I knew this would end up like that when Jeff released Objectdock. He said it would remain free!!
Well it did except i guess it won't be updated anymore and if it does it will not have any cool features like it's brother Objectdock+
It's always like that, <_< someone starts a cool app, gives it out for free, swears it will remain free forever then feels like making money so he keeps the free version as it is and develops something similar but better that you have to pay for. >.![]()

Haha well said.
I'm liking OD+. The tabbed docks are pretty useable and the new skinning options are nice also.
So tabbed docks don't have magnification?
No, but they don't really need them.
I guess they could be added but I don't think it would make the app better for it.
Does using the tabbed dock (with just tabs showing) slow down games?

Playing Live for Speed without the dock I get between 40-50fps, playing LFS with multiple docks and LFS runs between 40-50fps, so I'd say no.

hmmm... no thanks... I dont have the resources that OD+ needs and I dont have the money to pay it... Even more, if I have the money I will never waste my money with such program(s). $20 is a lot for something that you can do for free with a lot of clones jumping in the net. But thats my point of view... And I hope that you have good luck selling your software ![]()
i just love it when people who didn`t try neither want to try it, start bad mouthing things. i`m not saying that OD+ is or not worthy the price but pretty much all of you pple complaining are lazy to post even comments about someone's work, let alone, God forbid it, pay for it (i`m talking in general about comments). and ur probably going to warez it so stop complaining. It`s Jeff right to get something for his work so take it or leave it. And to all you "threatening" about switiching to other docks, what if there was no future development of OD (neither as regular OD nor OD+)?
People are STUPID
They said they are still going to do bug fixes as appropriate to the free version.

It's not as though £8.30 is anything. I can spend more on my lunch break.
At least you get a decent app which even though is beta has proven stable.

I dont use OD I have tryed some of the lastest version and to me, it really, really sucks, compared with Yz'Dock...
I REALLY dont cares if that guy (whatever his name is) stop or not the development of his app... To me is (VERY) useless. So if OD dies, I dont cares
(I will survive, I promess!!)

1. I suggest that you do not talk bad of members of the staff
2. Just because someone starts something, doesn't mean you have to continue it

Well, I just gave ObjectDock+ a shot (I had some money to burn, and as a programmer like to support other developer's efforts). My impressions are below.
NOTE: I may be pretty brutal here, but I'll say right now that I respect what Jeff has done, theres no way I could program something like this. I want to like object dock, I really do. I currently Use Y'z Dock and for some reason or another I hate using a dead piece of software, I don't like the idea of having to use something that I know will never be updated. If you use OD or OD+, don't take this personally, these are my feelings and i'm not going to say this is a bad app and nobody should use it, if its what you like, then by all means use the crap out of it. However, I'm now a paying customer who put up my money to try this out, and as I know from developing software durring the day, when people pay you to program, they expect things.
Flyout Menus: These are really cool...until you use them. It looked like a neat idea in the screenshots, but in actual practical use, they're pretty worthless for browsing folders. If a folder has very many items inside it takes awhile to pop up, sometimes several seconds. Further, you can't tell what file or dir an icon represents until you hover over it (as far as I can tell), and the only way to rotate through the flyout menu is by hovering over the arrows on the sides which slowly rotates the dock in that direction.
You can however define custom groups for the flyout menus, so you could put some apps in here and use it as a sort of submenu. Although, I don't have very many apps that I want in my dock anyway (16 icons down there now), so I really have no need for submenus like this.
Overall, this feature is neat in screenshots but an entirely worthless addition, and I wish Jeff would spend time on something useful. Yeah, I have the right to ***** now, I'm a paying customer.
Tabbed Docks: These do not feature magnification, which is something I like, but ultimately isn't that necessary so its something I could afford to lose.
The tabs themselves seem to be decent, although, again, I don't put that many apps down in my dock, so this is also pretty worthless for me.
I'm not sure how some of you are expecting this to work, but I think most of you are looking at it wrong. From what I understand about drag thing, this doesn't do that. All this is is a dock with some tabs on it, so that the dock can have a few different sections that you can click between. If you autohide the tabbed dock, when you mouse over it, it pops back up with whatever section you clicked on last, not the one you're hovering over. Theres not much special here, it is just as it says, a tabbed dock, nothing more.
Also, if you're a fan of autohide, the tabbed dock gets annoying (for me anyway). Unlike the normal dock which hides instantly after you move your mouse away, the tabbed dock takes a couple seconds. I couldn't find a way to speed it up.
Stability: Well, I fired up OD+ right after downloading it, dragged an icon off the dock to get rid of it, and OD+ promptly crashed. Alright. I fired it back up and this time it let me perform the action without crashing. However, over the course of using the dock for about 30 minutes, I suffered more than 5 crashes (I stopped counting). Now I realize this is a beta, but with this kind of stability I really don't think they should be selling this yet. It's possible that it is just my system, though I doubt this. I have a very stable system, neither Y'z dock or any of the other apps I use regularly ever crash for me. If it is my system, then this is the only piece of software my puter has an issue with.
Other Issues: This is a rather minor thing, but has been present in OD for awhile and it annoys me. When I scrub over the dock, and icons magnify, the dock seems to quiver, jittering left and right by 1 or 2 pixels. Y'z does not do this, and if I recall, neither does Moby's. Again, its minor, but it something that makes OD feel kinda cheap. This is not new, but its still here, and I figured was worth bringing up.
The spacer's are still rather large. I know its been said that its not a real easy fix, but it seems to be an OD specific issue so I don't think it could be all that bad.
Final Thoughts: Pretty much anything that was broken or annoying before, was still there, its just that new features have been added (which aren't all that useful) and as a whole the thing is less stable. Yes, it is a beta, but as I said previously, I don't think they should be selling OD+ in this state. Hopefully after a couple more minor versions, and after this leaves beta, the bugs will be fixed, the annoyances will be gone, and it won't crash every 6 minutes. I want to see OD and OD+ do well, and since Y'z and Moby aren't updated often (or at all), I really hope it improves. However at this point, for me at least, its not ready to be used. I have said goodbye to OD+ (and my $15), and am using Y'z once again. I'm not saying you should use Y'z, but thats what I use now, and probably for awhile to come.
Note: If you have any questions that I have not answered, or if I am wrong on any of my points (for instance, I say OD+ cannot do something when infact it can), please let me know and i'll update this post or create a new reply.
ummm
Alright everyone, cool it down, no need to be calling eachother names for a program!
I mean, seriously, think about it.
If this continues downhill i will be forced to close it.
Cant you guys get along?

Since it seems i have made a few comments without using the dock i have paid in full beta for Objectdock+.
Here's my brief review since Oae beat me to it. ![]()
Once again, this just my2¢ :smartass:
Every developer deservers to get paid for his work. Because there is free software out there, doesn't necessarily mean that everyone should work for free. If you believe the price is too high for what you get, then just don't buy.

I've never used ObjectDock either (at least for more than a couple of days), but I wouldn't like to see its development stopped. Every "competitor" causes the others to constantly try and improve their work, which we all benefit from after all.
So when I have nothing good to say about someone's work, or nothing useful, I prefer to just shut up.
The stability options seem to be very different per user. I have had two crashes and one of those was from me trying to make it crash. I'm writing a small review for my site and so pushing the app pretty hard.
So far no real problems.
The flyout menus need some more development. You can only launch things from the icons, not right click or drag from which is a little annoying.
i tried OD+ and i must say things don`t look as good as i thought they would.
1. Tabbed dock is actually very annoying with it`s autohide option. i thought it would be more like a dock with tabs but it turned out to be nothing like it. This is what limits the usage of tabbed docks for me. There is no magnification, no attantion effect, no positioning (a la docks (top/bottom/left/right)), the dock doesn`t resize if you add shortcuts, it adds a + button which is slightly annoying. Also the tabbed dock is very annoying when put on sides. It took me 30 mins to find out that i need to manually resize it so it would stand vertical rather than horisontal when put on the side.
2. Tabbed dock appears always on top even though the option is NOT checked and it takes few secs for it to dissapear.
3. If u add a dock (normal dock) that has only taskbar, if u click on it when it`s empty, OD+ crashes. If you just mouse-over it the background expands to the edge of the screen and stays that way.
4. As much as i like the flyout concept it`s just not working as it should. It needs more work.
I think OD+ has great potential but i think it shouldn`t have been released as a payware in this stage. But in any case, i`m eagerly awaiting the next version. Keep up the good work Jeff and don`t mind the whiners. ![]()
