just noticed this this morning: see attachment.
whatever it is its annoying.. seems to be makin random words into links that popup that tooltip ad when i hover over them. Firefox doesn't like 'em, i don't like 'em. I scanned and tried a bunch of sites out to see if i've become infected by adware, but zero on the scans and its only aquasoft its happening to.
what's going on?
edit: aaah, they're all microsoft ads too!!, plus this post now has adware underlined with a ms ad. :rant:
I'm seeing them to RB. So, you aren't the only one.
I've added them to the site, but they were not working last night so they are over the whole site. They are only going to be on a very few things. Its to help pay for Invision Board and now to renew VirtualNews license. People using IE are the only people who will see them, that does not mean go run off and use Firefox, help support the site!
I'll be tweaking them through out the day to help make them less of a pain for some of you.
If there is an ad you see that you feel is harmful in anyway just report it to me. We're trying something new here to bare with us and not go haywire.

no.. they're in firefox too, that's what i use.
i've got no problem with the ads, but they're peppered through the pages and really, really make browsing kindof annoying: there is a notable pause after the each page is loaded, and then the ads are obviously loading or something... makes browsing feel 'sticky'. The 'sponsored links' aren't links-well they're links that point back to the page they are actually on.
its really too bad there isn't another way of doing this, because tooltip ads seem pretty evil to me.
edit: its like a 3 second pause in firefox

Hmm now that you mention that I am noticing a pause after the page loads with these text ads. Right now its set on to scan the whole page for certain keywords. I'm going to see if I can set it on the forum posts alone maybe max keywords to find 2 or 3? or is that too much for you guys.
Also I'm in Opera and in Firefox and I'm not seeing them. Is anyone else not using IE seeing these?
Ok I'm turning them on of alot of the pages in the forums. Please let me know if you notice it getting a tad faster or slower.
The first link on this page had it up pretty fast.
It's still visible in FireFox. I'm using FireFox at the moment and in the first post adware and microsoft are underlined in green

They're not too intrusive, but they do seem to slow down browsing ever-so-slightly.
i dunno, i think they are intrusive... looks like i advertised microsft twice in my first post.
just rubs me the wrong way.

I can see em in firefox too. They are really annoying!
And mostly pointless - for example underlining IP and bringing up an ad to search for IP on ebay?!?
Oh and if you use firefox with adblock installed, you can't even click on the links 
Before I noticed this thread I thought I was loosing my mind... I find myself hoving the cursor over them and having no idea what they're for, it makes the site look like its being taken over by a virus hehe

Would it help if I made em more aqua like?
I don't care so much about them, as long as they are used to maintain this forum.
But a couple of times I had a warning in Firefox... something like: "A script is causing Firefox to run slower/become unstable" (don't remember exactly), and prompted me to stop running scripts.
Hint: AS is not the best place to have Microsoft ads.

2. I know why I saw them on IE on my PC. Thank goodness

Add another vote for "I see them in FireFox", but really I couldn't care less.
I was orignally worried it was a virus, because I had a friend who got a nasty bug that did that to everything on their computer; web pages, text typed into notepad, anything that was text. It even made links in her LiveJournal posts when she made them, so it looked like she was advertising the latest new soap product to all her friends. She had to format to get rid of the bugger too.
Now that I know this PC isn't buggered up, I'm fine with it. The little delay in loading time doesn't bother me at all.
I'm trying my hardest to lessin the pause on pages, the only pause should be noticed on the posts page, rest of the site should navigate as normal.
What color links would you guys prefer?
Maybe adding a pin stripe bg to the tooltip aswell?
How do you get paid, Timan? By ads viewed or clicked?

Bluish color would probably fit best... and the pinstripe BG'd be neat, but I reserve judgement until after I see, though I think it'd work well.
Would be nice if there was an option to turn em off, for those of us who will never, ever, ever click on one.
