[wip] Dream Interface For Iconbook

Arcanthur, I am nobody as far as being a graphic designer is concerned. I am still learning many of the finer points when it comes to putting the finishing touches on GUI work so as far as anyone respecting what I have to say...........it doesn't mean much on this messageboard. But for all it's worth (or not worth) I think the picture that you posted in the opening post under this topic looked absolutely AMAZING!!! Honestly, maybe I'm not as difficult to please as some of the other members but I would pay for an application that looked as slick as your original screenshot. I understand that you're going to make any changes that you feel are necessary but do keep in mind that if some people want something completely different from what you had in mind.........let them go design their own application. You don't have to completely alter the interface just because some people want it this way and others want it the other way. God knows that on a board where people are as picky as they are here.........you'll never finish the application. Basically I guess I'm just complementing you on your idea up to this point b/c I think it's AWESOME. If you do it the way you want it for the most part, you'll be a lot happier. Great work so far though man.......INCREDIBLE!!!

Respectfully,

Nate Dogg

natedogg: thank you for the compliments. It really helps when the majority of the responses are "it's messy" or "cluttered".... The first design wasn't intended to be an end all be all design, that's why it was tagged as a WIP, now after looking at the design I saw what changes needed to be made to create the most useable application of this sort.

Now, I've released the source file for the GUI as an act of my good nature, even if Iconbook isn't exactly like this, I hope my work and ideas are a good source of inspiration. Afterall, many of the ideas for this app came from me, about the libraries, preview pane, details view, etc.,

I never wanted this to turn into a competition, I only wanted to lay the ground work so that other could build from my ideas. I beleive that after all the critisism, (of the healthy or unhealthy variety), my GUI has come out the cleanest and most usable. (IMO) :D:D

hellow mister user 17000, u just irretated me so f**** much I just had to say something, I dont resepkt the coder in what ****ing way? u tell me. I know Ave (in the msn way), his a gr8 guy, I have done designs for him before, I said sorry in my prew post . and I actully commented what I said why I said it, maby not so well, but my english isnt flawless since I'm norwegian, and then naturally speaks norwegain.

" I, ME, Magbi9 thinks your (both of you) apps are to messy in the sence of whats best and most userfriendly."

is in a way constructive but:

"you suck"

isnt, thats how I look at it.

thnx man, I realy needed you to make me angree, plz take your uncontributing **** ass out of my ****ing way, and report me to the mod, why the hell would I cear?, I'm an idiot.

EIDT: THIS IS ****ING RUDE I TELL YA.

Wow, if I had known my comments would have cause you to become so... How shall we say... Belligerent.... I wouldn't have stated thing in such a manner. I guess when push comes to shove, you just get angry and curse all over the place. It's understandable, but unecessary.

What's funny is, I actually liked your design the best. Or rather, your design was quite good but I loved your use of texture in your project. My issue isn't with your work. It was never about your work. Your work had great aesthetic appeal. It was indeed beautiful.

However, whether I'm the 170000000000000000th user, or the 17th, shouldn't be the issue. Whether you are 13, 31, or 92 yrs old, the 1st poster or the millionth, master coder, master aqua-soft guru, is not the issue. People have feelings, and I stand by my comments on constructive criticism. And this isn't an english, norwiegan, chinese, latin, whatever issue. This is a matter of appreciating others while getting your own point across.

Like I said, I loved you work, I also found unbeliever, and arcanthur's work to also have great merits in their own right. ADG or not, I've been a graphic designer for over 10 years professionally and the work I've seen here has been quite amazing.

So all I'm actually asking as a new poster to this community (but quite possibly one of the oldest member (in age), is whether we can all respect eachother with decency, learning to build each other up and not tear each other down. That is, afterall, the point of "community".

Now if you think, just because I'm the 17000000000000th user here at Aqua-Soft, that I don't have a right to post a comment about respect since I'm new here, than you need to re-evaluate why u judge people by how many posts they have or what user number they hold.

Final Summation, I "respect" you and all the others here for their hard work. Let's all continue to do that for each other.

hmm, why do I get the feeling that no one even looked at my revised GUI <_<

and I did do a Panter style version and it looks great....

again...

(labels are not named correctly I know)

http://arc9.net/files/iconbookpanther.jpg

iTunes-style buttons (i.e. those used in brushed apps) don't look right in panther apps. I think that's why Apple use a different set when it comes to their panther-style apps.

Don't quote huge images.

That wasnt the point, it's just that u of all ppl, u dont know who I am, u come along, and say I dont respect the developer, what kind of **** talk is that?

This is not a age or user nr. thing, it was stupid of u to comment my age, and me to comment your user number.

I'm glad you liked my Design the best, and I appreciate that, but never say I dont respect, becouse I do, I realy didnt try to be rude, I just didnt find word for the things I wanted to say about their work, so I said it so good I could, and that may have resulted in ruedness. so that may be a problem for us non-english ppl, I dont know, I have had lot's of ppl cal me idiot, and say they hate me, so I realy dont cear anymore.

but if ppl are nice to me, I'm as nice as I can be to them.

I dont want anymore enemies then I allredy got, but u talk to much, dont.

I'll say the same as you: Final Summation, I "respect" you and all the others here for their hard work. Let's all continue to do that for each other.

and one more thing, why wouldnt I think my design is the best, since I made it the way I wanted it?

For apps like Iconifier or Fontbook, I want to see some $$$ first before handing over the sourcecode  :naughty:

ah ah ah!!! Funny crazy coder!!:D:lol:

Would you want to buy a new Satellite decoder to watch soccer on TV?!?!

P.S.: you must do what you want with your code, man. Keep up your amazing work!

We lost against the Czechs, just to let the Nederlands enter the quarter-finals.

I think, that's quite enough, don't you? :P

(looking forward :) )

PS (@ all): just to get an idea of it: what are "appropriate" donations for this kind of work - cause i have absolutely no idea. :( Don't answer "what it's worth for you", cause i know that, but i feel unable to judge it. THX

i really like this one!!!

#181224

Hmmm...

Well after looking at mine, magbi's, and mephisto's, I think we all have something going here, I think that if we took elements from each of our compositions the final design could be really something.

I will try to come up with something that icorporates all 3 in a tasteful manner.

omg dude, this is the program ive been looking for. on the icons and cursors board i posted about it....u are sweet dude, u are sweet. im sure willing to help you out

#181296

Here is my latest....

I tried to mix elements from everyones design (this is turning out to be a very nice GUI)

http://arc9.net/files/iconbookrevised.jpg

Now...

What's different:

- Icon placement on top, it makes more sense this way

- The sizes slider needs to be visible at all times so it goes to the secondary nav (instead of having only 128 viewed on the bottom, let the size of the icon being viewed show up in a separate box beside the slider (useful for veiwing the icons at unconventional sizes)

- The left pane remains a combination of mine and magbi's (The checkerbox is a nice idea, and the library buttons need to exist, I also stand firm that a button to show/hide the preview pane is nicer than just moving it out of the way.

- The bottom is an information pane only ( Should there be a button to hide it completely as well? )

- There doesn't need to be a drag icons here window (the converting process is done by whatever ico/png file/files are selected

I'm also guessing that since noone else has done a details view that my version is acceptable....
