[wip] Dream Interface For Iconbook

I decided to make this a new thread and let other people contribute to the interface project. (If they want, and realize this may never see the light of day.)

This screen shows the application in Details view. As said in previous threads it resembles iTunes mixed with a little bit of Finder.

Explanation of buttons:

The back next button will be only for details view and would primarily be used to preview the icons at full size in the collapsable preview pane (just as iTunes does with cover art)

The views is self explanitory, only is a coloumns mode really nessisary?

The import button imports icons into libraries.

Search is search.

On the bottom:

The plus button creates a new library and only does so in the section that is highlighted (ico or png)

The button next to it shows/hides the preview pane.

The convert button changes the selected icons into the opposing file type and creates a library of the same name in the png or ico library panes.

Finally the Slider:

The Slider will only be active in Icon view mode and will show sizes from 16x16 to 128x128

How I want it, basicly the same as Arcanthur's one, just not..

EDIT: okey,

1. I dont like brushed, brushed is okey for the iApps, and thats it. the finder for exampel looks like crap, just worse. so, panther style is the best, and cleanest for this type of app.

2. I dont like Arcanthur's design, it looks like a mix of lots of apps, and that makes it a mess to look at, and makes it non userfriendly.

3. I dont like the mixed toolbar, and status bar with lots of mess in, so I made that different.

4. dont use iTunes icons on the sidemenu, looks... um... stupid.... un pro. and all that....

i wasn`t going to post this but some pple really piss me off for some reason.

this will be the final GUI of AIB (or Ave will have a misterious accident :6 ).

@ Arc - mate to be honest that looks like a total mess. Have u ever seen Apple`s desing guidelines? And that GUI is for something that it`s NOT being made, AIB is just a simple icon previewer.

@ magbi - AIB is gonna use Ave Skinning Engine so it will be very versatile with skins.

My GUI may not be fancy looking for a preview as your's do but it`s been done accordingly to ADG :6

That GUI looks fantastic, exactly how I'd want it to be. It has all the things I'd use, in particular that slider on the bottom left

I dont like how it's set up. it's messy to. with that status bar with all that stuff in, I like my design better. I cant say it enugh, it's to messy for my taste, to make it like that is to... um... ruend something nice... sorry to say it like that...

Well...

I did make that in about 15 minutes, so the iTunes icons/mixed toolbar icons is just for reference. I just wanted to get my ideas out there so there would be something to work with.

As far as the brushed vs panther style, why not have it skinnable (I sure it would be)

In essense though this is an iApp

For the most part our interfaces are the same, I do agree there should be 1 style of icon for toolbars and perhaps all icons could be set at the top... I'll work on another version.

The only things missing are a show hide button for the preview on the side panel, since it's not really nessicary to show it in icon view, and an add new library button.

This would be great for a version 1 app and perhaps version 2 could incorporate icon packages (or something similar)

you dont need it, it's just to dragg it so it's just the resizer left, u follow?

GUI is set, and AIB will NOT (at least in near future) support any of those advanced functions

Well if this isn't going to be an ave app perhaps it should be made anyway.

A preview app is nice but an icon managing/oranizing/converting utility is REALLY nice.

As far as apples guidlines go though, why would it matter if is not to exact specs, this is a PC app.

@magbi9, I see your point about the preview pane button, but what I was going for was an iTunes style, but it can be done without it, yes.

it should be made but Ave doesn`t have all the time in the world. and he probably would make it but then he`d have to charge for it which is something he doesn`t want.

And if this is a PC app does it mean it has to be messy?

I, ME, Magbi9 thinks your (both of you) apps are to messy in the sence of whats best and most userfriendly. You cant change my opinion, so dont try so that is said.

in my design I have thought of userfriendlyness, the visual look and mac feel, and, um, yeah... so I think my design is the best for this app..

@Unbeliever: I definately understand that this would be a great undertaking to create by one person, and if it was to be created cost money, or require donations, but I think if we could all settle on a user interface, and show everyone what could be, then people would donate some money.

@magbi: I don't see the how either interface is "messy", mine needs refinement, and Unbeleiver's may too, but they are not what it'd call messy. I think you just have a personal distaste for brushed style.

it's not what u call messy, I call it messy, I still think it's messy in the sence of functionality and userfriendlynes. not messy like in children play with lego, just messy, not userfriendly, not good looking, not good at all realy. thats what I mean.

@ magbi - i`m not going to take this any further cause this is after all Ave's App.

However i don`t like when someone talks about how they`re supperiour compared to others and especially the tone ur saying that.

Yes my GUI is not a pro-made iCandy like urs but i spent a lot time balancing what i want it to be and what WILL it be. And don`t get the wrong, i really like how ur GUI looks, but that`s just it.

In either case, it`s up to Ave to choose the GUI for his app.

sorry if I'm hurting your feelings, it wasnt my intent. but I'm just answering things in my way, I have been called an idiot many times before, so I know I can be a bit rude, but I just try to be constructive in my coments, and help this app to be even better then it looks to be. I rest my case. and I dont feel suppirior, I just like my design best, and it's not wird since I made it after my (dont remember/know the word).

after how this is looking, it looks like ppl think I tryed to atack, that was not what I was trying, just came with my opinion on how it looks. I know it's just a mock up, but to remove the note from the itunes ico isnt that much work. anyway, I hope I didnt hurt anyones feelings. sorry if I did..

EDIT, and it's not that it's a note on the ico I say I dont like it, just the way it's made, just not userfriendly.

I've revised my GUI and I think it's the best so far (I will do a Panther style if you think this is too "messy" :6 )

Here's the idea.... in order to minimalize this app there should only be one main toolbar, a secondary nav looks ok, but doing it like this flows better and is actually even more user friendly. The status bar icons are now refined to offer a more solid look and feel.

*Edit* To make this even more minimalistic the blue rollup button could show/hide toolbar labels, leaving only a single row of small icons that get the job done.

1. You're probably 18 or younger (my guess is 13)

2. As constructive as you're "trying" to be, you're just coming off plain rude.

3. You don't respect who actually develops these applications.

Being "constructive" doesn't mean saying "your work is messy, mine is clean, your's is too messy, mine is best. That's not constructive criticism, that's something 10 year children say...

Being constructive is saying, for example...

"Hey, nice work on the interface so far. Did u think about trying this? How do u feel about my design? What if you tried this texture instead of the brushed look?"

That's constructive. What you are doing is considered "destructive". So watch what you say, be respectful, (especially to those who are offering a free application that you couldn't possibly code yourself), and understand that a little politeness and gratitute, coupled with honesty can go along way.

Ok, I know you're new and don't know who Magbi9 is but it's safe to say that he's one of the most talented graphics artists here at Aqua-Soft. So I will refute some of your points.

1. He is not 13. You have no proof whatsoever to make such a statement.

2. He was not being rude, but he like myself hates Aqua-artists not adhering to Apple's Design Guidelines. Keep in mind this is Aqua-Soft and we try to develop applications that mimic the interface (and to some extent the functionality) of applications on OS X. I shall also state that magbi9's design is "cleaner" than Arcanthur's. Unbeliever's design still adheres to ADG.

3. Quite the contrary. Magbi9 has worked with AndreasV to develop some fantastic skins for the Ave skinning engine and definitely does respect the developers we have here at Aqua-Soft. Please do not make such unwarranted statements against our members in future.
