ok

i said that i won`t go into this again but i have to.

1st of all i understand Magbi and although i don`t agree with the way he said what he said, again i respect him and therfore understand it.

i might be acting a bit out of my jurisdiction, it`s up to Ave to decide, but i spent several hrs working on the GUI, trying to balance it, adhere to ADG and not make it look "messy" and/or crowded. I also spent DAYS if not weeks spamming :P Ave abouot making an app like this. He being a great guy and my freind finally agreed and i`m more than gratefull for doing it. I don`t want this to turn into a flame war. Also a lot of buttons/panels u guys put in ur skins is pointless cause AIB 1 (again from what i know) won`t have convert option, separate PNG/ico panels and multiple views. I do agree Magbi's look sweetest :P but my idea was just a concept and i admit i`m nowehere near Magbi when PS skills are in question but i guess mine could look (i don`t care brushed or Panther cause AIB will use ASE) as sweet as Magbi's if i made it in "iCandy" mode.

So please don`t insult developers/skinners cause they are what make this community.

I will personally pay attention and those pple who flame and/or insult without a reason will be warned.

@ Ave - sorry if i took to much liberty on this, it`s ur app afterall :)

magbi9.  From the looks of your posts, a few things are apparent...

1. You're probably 18 or younger (my guess is 13)

2. As constructive as you're "trying" to be, you're just coming off plain rude.

3. You don't respect who actually develops these applications.

Being "constructive" doesn't mean saying "your work is messy, mine is clean, your's is too messy, mine is best.  That's not constructive criticism, that's something 10 year children say...

Being constructive is saying, for example...

"Hey, nice work on the interface so far.  Did u think about trying this?  How do u feel about my design?  What if you tried this texture instead of the brushed look?"

That's constructive.  What you are doing is considered "destructive".  So watch what you say, be respectful, (especially to those who are offering a free application that you couldn't possibly code yourself), and understand that a little politeness and gratitute, coupled with honesty can go along way.

hellow mister user 17000, u just irretated me so f**** much I just had to say something, I dont resepkt the coder in what ****ing way? u tell me. I know Ave (in the msn way), his a gr8 guy, I have done designs for him before, I said sorry in my prew post . and I actully commented what I said why I said it, maby not so well, but my english isnt flawless since I'm norwegian, and then naturally speaks norwegain.

" I, ME, Magbi9 thinks your (both of you) apps are to messy in the sence of whats best and most userfriendly."

is in a way constructive but:

"you suck"

isnt, thats how I look at it.

thnx man, I realy needed you to make me angree, plz take your uncontributing **** ass out of my ****ing way, and report me to the mod, why the hell would I cear?, I'm an idiot.

EIDT: THIS IS ****ING RUDE I TELL YA.

oh come on Magbi, no need for that. I know ur a good guy so no need to snap like that. U`ve been around for a while and u know pple sometimes say things that they don`t mean. U said it urself. No need to get pissed over such a trivial thing as a GUI, there are much worse things in the world.

@ everyone - let`s try to calm down and post our ideas and critisism in a polite, civill way.

Ok?

but I wont say anything more...

First off, I'm not going to get into the argument about whether what's been said by anyone should or shouldn't have been said - all I can say is that I respect Magbi9 and all the hard work he puts in to his work and I respect his opinion.

Back onto the subject at hand; I must admit that I do prefer Magbi9's design - I think that he's right in saying that just the iApps should remain brushed. Panther style suits other apps - I love panther style but I'm finding that I hardly get to see anything panther anymore because everything's brushed.

I'd love to see more Panther-style apps being made.

OH GOD DAMN IT PEOPLE!

It will be using AVE SKINNING ENGINE!

U will be able to make it brushed, panther or even PINK if u like! The previews are GUI concepts, NOT skin concepts :6

@ magbi - u know i respect ur work, and that`s why i don`t wanna see u get upset over such things :)

@ Ave - "This post has been edited by AndreasV on Jun 22 2004, 03:32 PM" line gives u away :P:lol::rolleyes:

well, there will be a defult skin, and make new members think brushed is nice, in my little world is stupid, so panther as a defult is gr8, plus that your's and Arcanthur wont look good in panther I thikn, but I thought of that when I designd, and made it so it can be as goodlooking in brushed as in panther.

I hope I wasnt rude in my post this time, tell me if I am and I will edit.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to know what language these apps are created in? c++ or .net framework?

I am using Delphi (=Object Pascal + VCL) for the creation of skinnable AveApps. No .Net framework required.

The choose for Delphi was made because of Delphi's great VCL framework. There are a lot of free components available that wrap up commonly used WINAPI things. All UI-components in the VCL have a DoubleBuffered property which makes them doublebuffered. Most of the things in these apps are ownerdrawn / subclassed things to make it able to be skinned.

I am not really at home in Object Pascal, so for some things I fall back to c++ and write a DLL that will be used ;). AveFontBook uses a dll written in C++ for some advanced font stuff.

Cool Ave, Thanks!

Just wanted to know cos i graduated in computer science and can't find any Java based jobs in the UK god damnit!! (Peeps in uk don't do computer science cos u won't get a job with out really really good a-levels - even if like me u get a first)

Is Delphi Object Orientated - cos i don't have any experience in VB or Pascal. Cos all these apps are cool so if someone wants to develop what should they learn?

Sorry to be offtopic.

#180657

is there or will there be any small app you did, which can be released as OpenSource?

Imo this might be very helpful for some programmers-to-be here...

if not, it's ok, but that just came into my mind -_-

looking forward for this app. I'm kinda icon-lover (release of AveIconifier2 was the best day this year) and this app (no matter which skin) is gonna be really cool :-)

(even if it would be much cooler for sure, if it had some more of the features requested :naughty:)

You're great Ave - really appreciate you work (and getting CreditCard now ;) )

greets,

08/15

Delphi, or Object Pascal is a pretty modern OOP language. It supports typical OO things like inheritance, exceptions, interfaces and all the other jazzy stuff. I didn't find any built-in support for commonly used design patterns (like Java has observer/observable) and I don't know about multiple inheritance, never tried or needed that in Delphi.

COM is supported nicely in Delphi. No need to call Free()/AddRef() on COM-objects, the system does that for you.

However, Delphi is a dying language. Version 7 is .NET prepared and version 8 is totally .NET .

There is also a C++ variant of Delphi/VCL: Borland C++ Builder. The IDE is very buggy, likes to crash for no reason and is slow as hell.

Cos all these apps are cool so if someone wants to develop what should they learn?

:D Most of the stuff in these 'cool' apps is done by using GDI+ and a lot of WIN32 API calling. That as a bases, combined with the excellent encapsulation of windows stuff in the VCL, gives you a lot of power.

is there or will there be any small app you did, which can be released as OpenSource?

Yep, I am willing to share code of some of the AveApps on request. However, the code is pretty bad, undocumented, not commented and very ****ty to read -_-

For apps like Iconifier or Fontbook, I want to see some $$$ first before handing over the sourcecode :naughty:
