Are there any known issues for converting Icons to PNG in terms of quiality? I just tried converting a bunch of icons to PNG's and the quiality was not good at all.

That's what happens when you have a machine resize them. Basically any resize is a loos of quality (unless you create separate states for each size, which Aveiconifier can't do cause it sucks at PS )

This is probably a silly question, but is there an. . . um. . .icon for Aveiconifier 2 that I can use in ObjectDock?

I can't seem to find any good PNG of the program icon. I used Iconseizer to extract the 128X128 icon from the .exe file, but it doesn't look too great. . .

Don't know of one but, this actually belongs in Icon requests. You'll probably have better luck there.

This is now one of my new favorite programs. Wow I love this, and the quality of the icons are superb. I'm making a whole icon pack with it! And I've already made an AveIconifier skin. I just can't release it because my screenshots are messed up.

Does it require XP? I get the error, "A required DLL file, GDIPLUS.DLL, was not found." I know what it means (Im a computer whiz) but does that come With XP or something?

gdiplus comes by default with xp (and more recent versions of windows). For older versions, get the redistrib. version of gdiplus..dll.

Firstly, let me begin by saying I'm an absolute novice, so be gentle...

I have downloaded Aveicon from:

I seem to be having the same problem that others resported earlier and it was considered resolved. Basically, the program informs you that it has converted you .ico file to a .png file, but the cretaed file is empty.

I am running this on Windows 2000 (SP4).

Finally, is there any way to reduce the size of the creared .png file to match the 16x16 original .ico file?

Not sure about the first problem, but .PNG files will automatically downsize with no (or almost no?) reduction in quality. That's one advantage over .ICO .

I said this before if you read the thread. The created icon box looks empty but it IS there. Drag and drop from the box and you will see it.

When I converted a 16x16 .ico file it produced a 128x128 file. I used Adobe Photoshop to reduce the size back to 16x16.

Note: I am assuming that the original .ico file was 16x16 as it was a "favicon.ico" file.

There are some selectable settings when you right-click on the first box of Aveiconifier, would these have any impact?

I had already tried this, but when I used Adobe Photoshop to view the .png file it only showed a checkered background. No picture.

I assumed that a .png file was created but not successfully.

Any other ideas?

Ah, my apologies...I misunderstood your question. I believe the selectable settings would actually have an impact, if you're only converting a 16*16 .ico file. In that case, I think only 16*16 should be checked--that way, you won't have to use Photoshop to reduce the size.

It's a handy tool for when you have a bunch of PNG icon images with large dimensions. But my initial reason for trying out AveIconifier was because I was hoping it'd have a function that'll create a multi-formatted icon, where I can specify a different png file for each image format.

If it had that feature, it'd really save me a lot of time and work. Y'see, I've got sets of stock icons that come in several image formats (gif, png, bmp, etc), including as Windows Icons. But the problem is that the icons are all single-formatted, meaning... a folder containing the 32x32 format of the entire icon set, another folder with just the 24x24 format of the entire set, another folder with just the 16x16... I want all the different formats of a given icon to be unified! I'd be grateful if anyone knows of an application that can help me accomplish this task (particularly in an automated fashion, in bulk).
