Yeah , the icon related functions in GDI+ suck bad. GDI+ doesn't preserve alpha of .ico format. Nice idea copying raw bits.
GDI+ does everything OK. It takes the icon inside the file with the that has the dimension of SM_CXICON and SM_CYICON.I might be wrong on the constants (the match is still inside me), but you get the idea.

The gdi+ library for c++ without .net framework doesn't have a built-in class for icon and if you use its conversion function from .ico to bitmap with alpha channel (like Bitmap::FromHICON, it loses alpha information( like a thumbnail view of .ico files in explorer). The only way I found was bit-by-bit access of icons.

I suspect that Bitmap::FromHICON() calls GetIconInfo() and use the hbmColor member (is an HBITMAP) with Bitmap::FromHBITMAP(), which doesn't save the alpha channel the good way neither.

Might be difficult, cause the quality becomes pretty bad, when pixels are just left out. On the other hand, it would be so wonderful... can't describe - have always been waiting for something like that.

That's something I want to add along with an option to choose what formats to include. It's not something very difficult to add, but requires some research and time.
