A not-so-popular form of metal. Power metal is categorized by very catchy songs involving long sing-along choruses and often tends to be about fantasy elements involving dragons and elves. Some of the bands like Blind Guardian feature a lot of Tolkien-ish concepts in their music. Power Metal however is once again gaining momentum amongst newer fans who are being introduced to heavier styles of metal because it is "easy" to listen to.
Bands in this category:
Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Jag Panzer, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Manowar, Rhapsody and Freedom Call are bands that play this type of music.
all that stuff :rule: :rule: :rule: :rule:
 Nightwish..?
Mudvayne
S.O.A.D (System of a Down)
Static-X
KoRn
Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yes Nightwish is Progressive Metal with an operatic influence.

Progressive Metal
What a funny name...can you explain it? How metal can be progressive?
very hard to explain...
take opeth for instance
i believe that down to the basics it's all got to do with the chord progressions
i'm not a punt, so i may be wrong on that
but listening to the music you can make out by the chord progressions. they are not the simple Bb/C/D/E progressions - they get MUCH more complicated
oh well... enough talking, more LISTENING!
Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pixies, Temple Of the Dog, Screaming trees, Smashing Pumpkins, Mudhoney, Janes's Addiction, STP, Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr ... ![]()

Well boys and girls most of you are probably older than me as i am in my teen years but has anyone else noticed how absolutely crappy music is lately? Its all hippety hoppity lookit me i hav bling bling and such. I say bring back the rock. Thank the lord for The Darkness they are the first real band with a classical rock sound.
Personally my favourite band is Rush. Others may think otherwise I know there were so many greats back in the 70's and the 80's. Zeppelin, AC/Dc, Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Supertramp, Hendrix, Steve Miller Band, Van Halen, Rush, Pink Floyd, The Who , The Doors, The Eagles, The Stones, etc...
Hearing those greats play and then listening to the crap being put out now. What the hell happened.
What I want to know is who is your all time favourite rock artist, fav rock song, etc... and why

Although I agree with you mostly...but there's still good new/not-so-new music out there (IMO)

And this is only for classic rock
True, I hate most of this new "bling-bling" ****e, it's just so cheap. And don't get me started on Pop...
But yes you're right; The Darkness are great, for two reasons. I'm listening to them right now, and they live about 20 minutes away from me! I could hunt them down in an afternoon!
*gasp* Mihaly! I remember you from the old days! And don't worry, I'm in my early teens too. ![]()
Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Pink FLoyd and The Doors, my favourite classic rock bands
