#152286

Haha no one will know these (or at least not most)...oh well:

Nobukazu Takemaru, Múm, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Four Tet, Kammerflimmer Kollektief, µ-ziq, Kid Spatula, Flim, Dntel, Radiohead, Gamers in Exile, Hrvatski, Jega, Jimmy Edgar, LFO, Novel 23, Patrick Wolf....the list goes on. Mostly...err....I mean ALL electronic or at least some Electro influence (Four Tet is instrumental electro as well as Múm and Kammerflimmer Kollektief) but most of it is just amazing electronic music.

BEWARE! NONE OF THIS IS DANCE, HOUSE OR TRANCE! I really dispise those genres and they should be seperated from electronic music because they suck ass so much.

Most of the stuff I listen to is:

Drill n' Bass

Drum n' Bass

Ambient (Not at all like trance)

IDM

Glitch

Glitch Hop

Lo-Fi

Trip-Hop

Turntablism

Yeah...buy some of this stuff and expand your music listening, it will be like music you have never heard before. Especially Múm.

Just to clarify on the classification of metal, here's a quote from my post on the different genres of metal from a metal forum I visit.

Nu-metal: (I REPEAT....THIS IS NOT METAL)

Nu-metal is a hybrid genre who some metal fanatics including myself do not classify as metal at all. Characteristics of nu-metal are simplistic guitar riffs with almost always no guitar solos. Drumming in nu-metal is quite simple and the style of drumming is often that used in a lot of hip-hop/rap styles of music.

Bands that fit this category:

Mostly the stuff shown on MTV these days.....Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Korn, System of a Down, Evanescence, Marilyn Manson, Papa Roach, Trapt, Slipknot, Sevendust and Godsmack.

New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM):

This is the 80s stuff of which a lot of people including me are huge fans. This form of metal is commonly mistaken with Power metal. This type of music is characterized by fast guitar solos and clean high-pitched vocals.

Bands that fit this category:

Some NWOBHM bands are Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead (who went on to influence the genre known as thrash metal), Grim Reaper and Blitzkrieg to name a few.

Hair Metal (also referred to as glam metal):

Hair metal or glam metal has been a popular form of music throughout the 1980s due to its image. Often this type of music has been more about the image than the music itself. Much of the subject matter of this type of music is about glamour i.e. chicks, cars, flashy clothes, sex etc; hence the name 'glam metal'. It is said that glam metal met its demise by the 1990s and gave way to a new style of music called grunge which featured bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.

Bands that fit in this category:

Some well-known glam bands are Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Guns' N' Roses, Faster Pussycat, Motley Crue, W.A.S.P, LA Guns and Ratt.

Power Metal:

A not-so-popular form of metal. Power metal is categorized by very catchy songs involving long sing-along choruses and often tends to be about fantasy elements involving dragons and elves. Some of the bands like Blind Guardian feature a lot of Tolkien-ish concepts in their music. Power Metal however is once again gaining momentum amongst newer fans who are being introduced to heavier styles of metal because it is "easy" to listen to.

Bands in this category:

Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Jag Panzer, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Manowar, Rhapsody and Freedom Call are bands that play this type of music.

Thrash Metal:

A step up from heavy metal, thrash is a very popular metal category and my personal favorite. Thrash is supposed to have been founded by bands like Motorhead and Venom (who went on to influence a heavier style of music called Black Metal. More on that later). These two bands generally influenced the likes of Exodus, Slayer, Testament, Anthrax and Metallica and Megadeth who would set a foundation for thrash throughout the 1980s making it the golden age of thrash metal. Thrash started dying out in the 1990s although a few bands such as Pantera, Machine Head and Iced Earth kept thrash alive for a while.

Bands that fit in this category:

Slayer, older Metallica (From Kill 'Em All thru till ...And Justice For All), Pantera, Kreator, Testament, Exodus, Sepultura, Annihilator, Venom, Iced Earth, Megadeth and many more.

Industrial Metal:

I don't know a lot about industrial metal coz I never got into it much, but I think that bands like Fear Factory, Nine Inch Nails, Frontline Assembly and Brainchild are industrial.

Death Metal:

Death Metal is the next step in hardness from thrash. A prominent feature of death metal is that most of the vocals are the low growly so-called "cookie monster" vocals. This type of music is characterized by insanely fast drumming (most songs are played with double bass running throughout the song) and the songs are almost always without melody and/or choruses.

Bands that fit this genre

Some death metal bands are Death, Orbituary, Hypocrisy, Nile, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy and Cannibal Corpse.

Gothenburg Metal (a.k.a. Melodic Death Metal):

Gothenburg metal is an off-shoot of death metal. Sometimes referred to as melodic death metal, this genre gets its name from its place of origin...Gothenburg in Sweden if I'm not mistaken. Gothenburg metal includes more melodic guitar riffs than death metal does, however most of the vocals are still low and growly. Usually consists of very fast and technically difficult guitar riffs and fast drumming.

Bands in this category of music

Dark Tranquility, Children Of Bodom, At The Gates, In Flames, Katatonia and Arch Enemy to name a few.

Black Metal:

Black Metal is another step up in hardness from thrash. This is also one of my favorite music genres. New metal listeners are often horrified by this genre of music due to the fact that this form of music is generally characterized by very dark lyrics often involving demonic and satanic issues. Keyboards are prominently used in black metal often with intense drumming, insanely fast and distorted guitar riffs and screeching "cookie monster" vocals. Much of black metal has originated from Europe and more specifically Scandinavian countries like Norway and Finland.

Bands that fit this category

Some black metal bands are Emperor, Mayhem, Mercyful Fate, Bathory, Burzum, Cradle Of Filth and Darkthrone. More recently bands like Dimmu Borgir have emerged with more commercially oriented and slightly "softer" black metal.

Progressive Metal:

Progressive metal is extremely difficult to categorise because it combines metal with other non-metal or metal types of music ranging from classical to jazz to death metal. Different bands combine different styles of music to form a large category that is known as progressive. A lot of these bands might sound completely different from each other.

Bands that fit this category:

Some bands and their influences are Dream Theater (jazz influence), Symphony X (classical influence) and Opeth (death metal influence).

Metal is for the tough... Nu-Metal is for the kids who want to play "Up the road not across the street" on their wrsits.

That's not my point. My point is when somebody asks me what type of music I listen to, I don't say "Semi-Punk-Sorta-Jazz Blues; Donkey-Wrestling Polka." I say what type of artists I listen to. Saying a certain genre is like saying I am a Democrat. You can't do that. You are making decisions based on the category, not an individual opinion.

I just say music and then I make them a mix.

Also, please dont take offense to my feeble attempt at humor. I KNOW not all nu-metal kids want to kill themselves. They Just sing about it to sell records.

Just wrote that off the top of my head. I didn't research it.

Great guitarist but the guy is a goddamn solo act. His ego is waaay too big for a band. -_-

#152443

Well yes he is very much a solo guy but nevertheless he has made some great stuff with his Rising Force band. Also I think a superb guitarist that isn't so solo is Zakk Wylde. He has made some great stuff with Ozzy and Black Label Society.

#152446

I like the band that's in my head...they're having a fight right now because my head hurts.
