[release] Avedesk 1.0 Rc

Hiya all,

AveDesk 1.0 RC is available for download. Grab your copy here [ http://mpj.tomaatnet.nl/avedesk_rc1.zip ] (alangs site has been hacked, those b*st*rd! )

You also need to provide your own PNGs, because I am not that talented to make my own and include them with AveDesk.

AveDesk is an application that will give you the possibility to have icons on your desktop which could update themselves. Each icon is in fact a desklet, a little plug-in that can virtually do anything. A desklet can be just a regular shortcut, a mail checker, a calendar, a clock, etc. It depends on the imagination of the desklets programmer.

Also, the user can set a large amount of properties for each desklet: alpha level, dropshadow, grayscaling, labelstyle, etc.

Currently, AveDesk is totally compatible with Object Dock docklets. This means that you can use docklets that were made for Object Dock as your icons.

800*600 version

In this screenshot you can see AveDesk working with:

1. Albeiks CPU docklet

2. Judges XML Weather docklet (with dropshadow enabled)

3. Albeiks Power docklet

4. Albeiks clock docklet

5. My HD Monitor docklet (with dropshadow enabled)

6. A shortcut desklet (with dropshadow and grayscaling enabled)

7. A shortcut desklet (with dropshadow enabled)

8. A shortcut desklet (with dropshadow and grayscaling enabled)

The desklets are managed using the Desklet Control Panel, which can be reached by double clicking the trayicon.

Some more notes:

The mountchecker desklet:

I know I "promised" this one, but I don't have the time to rewrite it for now (I have some exams from university this week). I try to do it as soon as possible.

The SDK:

The SDK delivered with this version is preliminary documentation and is subject to change. Although it is likely not to change, it is not guaranteed.

Future versions:

To not get flamed in the future, I want to say now that any possible version 2 of AveDesk won't be free. There is a lot of work in this project and if I am going to make a version 2, it will have hardware acceleration and some other more advanced stuff.

However, version any version 1.x shall be free. I also will consider the option to release the source-code in the future.

Please report bugs at Kerins AveDesk Bugtracker, Also no big feature-requests for now :)

This version is currently only spread through the Aqua-soft boards, but feel free to spread the link (not the files itself!).

DOWNLOAD MANUAL

It took me more than i expected to finish this tutorial. It still has to be approved by Andreas but i think it can help. Hope someone will provide the extra links.

PM if i missed something.

#95841

ooh. nice

and yes release the source for it. I recommend under GPL. As soon SCO will prove how stupid they are, and how valid the GPL license really is in a court room. Also then you know noone can ever make a profit off of your work.

#95846

Downloading now. Too bad V2 is not going to be free.

#95847

Damn, great hob on those Andreas!

 I cant post it on the frontpage!!! im "punished" by the admins :P

#95851

Too bad V2 is not going to be free.

This project required a lot of coding and I all did it in my free time. If I ever will come with a version 2, it should require a lot of more coding and I am only a poor student :smartass:

Are you trying to take our jobs unbeliever?

that`s what i`ve been trying since day one :lol:;)

@ others

Since i`ve been with Andreas on this since day 1, i know the effort and time that was put into developing AveDesk. We spent nights and days working all the quirks out and fine tuning the app. Lots of pple (Kerin, DTOXX, Tarik, please forgive me for not naming the others) put a lot of effort into this project but none as much as Andreas and he really does to get something out of it.

And since this is RC1 i don`t think you have to worry about beeing left out with bugs (although there r very, very few, we all tried our best to find them and fix them) cause 1.0 will be bug free.

I think we should all thank Andreas, for making this in the first place.

I`ll start:

THANK YOU
