it's an excellent app, with the exception of memory usage... i'm not sure why apps like these use so much memory. The other desktop picture app did the same thing. It's using like 10mb for a small image to be displayed. Samurize can do the same at around 2mb. I would love to use this app, it's got wonderful functions and a great idea... but 10mb per pic is way to much...

That's what I was thinking too bubbabyte (hi).

I checked mem usage as well when I first tried it (balked @ 8MB per image), but now I have 3 png's (128x128px² @ 75%) and just checked it and in total (mem+v. mem) is about 4.2MB.

@kikuchiyo: All of the program settings are stored in the "iMage-in.dat" file in the iMage-in program folder. Just copy the entire iMage-in folder to another computer, and make sure the picture files are in the same locations and everything should work.

@bubbabyte: I hear you about the memory issue. The only problem is that the image data has to reside somewhere in memory. Otherwise, how is Windows supposed to know what to draw? :) Also remember that I'm not talking about the compressed data in a PNG file but the *uncompressed* data (so a 1MB PNG will probably expand to at least 2 or 3 megs in memory). If you use smaller image files you'll see better results. Sometimes it also helps to click the Quit button and then reload the program.

@everyone: When the hectic holidays are over, we'll look into adding more features like text with colored labels and different image states. Thanks for all the great comments!

Wonderful App ! It's working nicely on my desktop, and I look forward upcoming features ! (labels and maybe a possibility to avoid desktops icons to be under images)

Good luck and happy christmas !

By far one of the most functional program I ever used.

Thanks for sharing it with us Mad_Mike.

Let me add a suggestion also. I think as a good desktop icon replacement the program would also benefit from a tile/grid/arrange kind of a function. So that the icons are all in line without the user having to move them pixel by pixel. Or something like windows' auto arrange feature that just snaps icons in place.

I must agree with u guys, this app rocks!

this is a great app ... but in the next release can you add a function to add an image fro the web.

For Example i want on my desk this image meteosat.gif and a function for refresh the image every x seconds.

Thanx

EDIT: I have created a link to image and i have load into the program but isn't animated because maybe it doesn't accept GIF images
