[release] Image-in

iMage-in allows you to place one or more picture windows on your Windows 2000/XP desktop. These pictures cover up part of your wallpaper and icons, and the only useful purpose they serve is that they can function as desktop shortcuts. So why use this program? Because IT'S FUN!

Here are some of the features:

  • Use any image as a slideshow (cycling forward, backward, or randomly within a folder)
  • Supports BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, and TIF formats (including transparent PNG's)
  • Images can be of nearly any size and transparency
  • Use the mouse and/or arrow keys to position images
  • Images can be pinned to the desktop (locked in place)
  • Images can be Always on top, Always on bottom, or normal
  • Change images with drag and drop or by browsing
  • Anchor points allow slideshows to be centered on screen or fixed to any edge/corner
  • Use images as desktop shortcuts
  • Images do not take up entries in the taskbar or Alt-Tab list
  • Create up to 32 image windows
  • Settings are saved between sessions
  • Efficient memory usage

Check out the iMage-in webpage for all the details of this 100K wonder. To uninstall you simply delete the folder (it doesn't use the Registry), so don't be afraid to try it out.

Play with it a little, then post your feedback below!

(Note: We apologize in advance to anyone who is sick of applications that start with a lowercase i. When you see our logo you will understand that we had to do it.)

This is the best desktop picture app I've used so far. The versatility and user-control is unrivaled. Haven't had any problems with resource hogging, nothing. Congratulations, and many thanks. (Y)

This app is really cool.

Does anyone know if jef's Addshadow works with this? If it does, what window class does it have?

#90690

You do know that there is an old program called "Image-In", don't you?

#90705

Fantastic work

Only thing that would be nice is the ability to include text under the image

I was going to ask that!!

yeah will there be text under the image in the next build?

#90724

@AquaKid3D: No, I wasn't aware. Do you have any links?

@Enhanced & Photo678: Do you mean displaying the filename or simply allowing the user to type in some text (for shortcut purposes)? I'll see what I can do, but getting SuperJerk to do anything is... well, just look at his name! We originally planned to include some text capabilities, but put that aside so we could release something this year. Cross you fingers and hope he's in a good mood when I approach him with new version requests!

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words. We made this for all the fine members of the Aqua community, and we're glad you're enjoying it. :moon:

OH MY GOD! You've made it... for me??? lol..

Excellent!!

#90858

very interesting application.....good job..... :D (Y)

#90862

yeah! awesomely done. simple, lightweight, perfect. thanks madmike and superjerk.

hmm... only dream feature would be integrating pulling pictures off a(user designated) site to the necessary folder, displaying it for a set time then deleting it automatically.

I'd use it for weather radar.

but yeah, this is great, it works perfectly for a desktop i'm using now, and i'm really happy you guys made this and its fully usable.

It does. Download an app called WinSpy to get the Class and the Caption. The link is in one of the Add Shadow threads.

But the shadow will go crazy if you have do the slide show

Eventhough I'm not a big fan of big icons, what the heck I tested your application and works like a charm....

Also, It's kinda fun playing with a lot of png files and drag in...;)

No, it's for me! P-E-R-F-E-C-T! Thank you very much!

Goddamn, this kills any of my lasting samurize interests...;)

I really like it too. It takes care of both the desktop image I wanted and lets me move over to nicer desktop icons.

One question though: Any chance we can see color labels for shortcuts?

#91004

Great app!!!

I agree with everyone about the ability to add text to a picture. Could we also have an option for placement of that text? (e.g. top, bottom, left or right). That would be great.

#91075

I'm hesitant to say this, because it might be outside of the scope of this app but:

I started using this just to display small photos on my desktop. I didn't consider using it for icons, but it seems like a great way to get better desktop icons.

Having said that, I think it'd be great if there were a config option or screen (along the lines of Samurize's Edit Config) which was just a grey screen that represents yours and let you place icons down and keep a back up config. Thus, if you moved computers or reinstalled (assuming your shortcuts were the same) it'd still work. The idea is very Samurize-esque, because I've been influenced by it, but I think it would be a great app or functionality for us Desktop modders.

#91080

Hi guys.

Since many people here seem to use this for desktop icons? could you add optional "mouse-over" and "clicked" (selected) image states - we could just specify some other images for those.

you :rule:

#91176

This is fantastic. Lock all option too, maybe where all instances are locked to each other (so they can be moved as a group)?

Great release! Thank you. :)
