I have recently been using windowblinds with osxpng by judge. It is a very accurate skin and that is why I have have been using it. But, windowblinds has been lagging. Things aren't as zippy as they are without windowblinds. I would just assume use icemans visual styles. They are great and they use msstyles, which are fast and native to windows. It looks great, but my only one complaint, which has been stopping me from using it, is that the stop lights (close, min, max)appear on the right side of the title bar. It is very annoying to me. I am assuming msstyles will not allow the buttons to be on the right. Is there a way to accomplish this using msstyles? If anyone knows how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. Then Iceman could change his theme and I could use msstyles forever, without any lag in performance.
Msstyles With Stop Lights On Right?
I think this question was asked or something long time ago, but the answer is....
NO.
Atleast i think it is, so far no one has been able to do it, and if some one does, god bless them lol.
Ya, I didnt think it could be done either. But you never know. Someone may come up with a new idea that works. But for now basically your saying that if I dont use a 3rd party skinning program, I cant get the buttons on the right, right? Ya thought so. Damn. I heard stylexp didnt use up any resources and didnt slow anything down because it used msstyles or something like that. Maybe stylexp could work.
StyleXP is just a easier to use tool for mmstyles. Its like a hacked UXtheme, but as a program. So, no, this wouldnt work either ![]()
An alternative is to use ShellWM with Iceman's theme...it will give you left-justified buttons but at a price (and one which I'm not willing to pay) i.e. it is buggy and it doesn't work well with shadowing apps like Y'z Shadow and WindowFX....so basically you will lose all shadows and transparencies....
Siddharth
Well, that isn't too great. Guess, I'm pretty much stuck with the left justified buttons unless I want to use some 3rd party skinning application. Oh well.
Yeah, it sucks. Well i heard wb4.0 will be really slick and not buggy so maybe that will be just like mssytles? I hope so, btw if you use trillian, my new trillian skin is gonna have left justified buttons.
Well I came up with an inelegant way of doing it. I use Iceman's msstyles theme and I run and older version (read pre XP) of WindowBlinds on top of that. In the windowblinds configuration panel I turn off all skining except for the titlebars. Viola we get the skining atributes of the msstyles with the close, minimise, maximise buttons on the left were they should be. The only issue I have is ocasionally when I grab a titlebar to move a window a void apears for just a second just below the titlebar. But hay most the time it works great. So if you have an older copy of WindowBlinds say version 0.9x you might give this a try. Good luck.
hmm.. very nice idea.. i will try this if i can find it, or maybe you can send it to me. btw, which theme are u using then for windows blinds
Nice idea, Impulseman. Is this not possible with the latest version of windowblinds? I'd like to give this a try also. It sounds like a good idea. Does windowblinds take up less resources when it is skinning less things? Also, do the older versions of windowblinds generally take up more resources, or less?
I know you are not going to like me for saying so (you probably already don't), but...
I'm sorry, I just don't see the logic in this.
Running WB (even with just titlebar on) *AND* visual styles at once would take up more memory than either of them seperatly. And consume more resources.
WB+one of my skins alone takes up about 700k of memory on my system.
You are not willing to run WB alone but you are willing to run it AND visual styles at once just to have the buttons on the left? Uhhhh ok.
<_<
Same applies to shellwm. I never understood the fascination when considering the above mentioned bugs.
damn! it would just be a lot less complicated if the whole windows xp GUI was in opengl or DX9 (I perfer the latter). not only will it run smoother, but you could customise it in a way you never could before. plus, you get a built in dock ![]()
sure it would be difficult, but hey, nothing worthwhile is ever easy.
WB + MSStyles? !
Well, did that - a long time ago, almost a year or so. Its nice, but thats it. It works with the registered version of WB2.2 and basically every skin. So you could use Iceman's theme for Msstyles and OSXP NG, for example. You have top be careful what to skin and what not to skin in WB, but can produce awesome effects for the explorer, for example.
BUT -
it significantly slows down your machine! (mine is an Athlon 1.333 MHz of whatever QuantiSpeed Plus a GeForce 3 Ti200 64 MB) - Especially with WinFX / WinFX 2.
AND
WB 2.2 (and older) uses a slightly different (older) skinning engine. This engine places the Titlebar *over* the actual titlebar of the program. And sometimes, you will see the original non-skinned titlebar under that because of a glitch.
So I stopped doing it and I am happy with WB3.5 alone.
I dont know why you think MSStyles would be so much faster. It uses WAY more mem. It slows down your PC. The difference is, you have to wait for a window to appear. In WB you can see how it is "constructed". This might give the impression that WB is slower while I actually can't find a difference.
Do you use MS Paint for Photo-Editing because it is a "native" app that comes witht the OS?
Or do you use Photoshop?

I use Icemans MSstyle theme and ja450n ShelWM theme, works great..Look, speed etc..
None of this ShellWM nonsense for me. Smoke I hope your Aqua theme for WindowBlinds will be perfect. Please take your time and make it as good as (or better than) Rhapsodized...

Whats wrong with shellwm, very 100% stable and fast for me..
Well I find it buggy...and it's basically just an extra app running which is frustrating.
Siddharth
Well im lucky to have a very beefy system, so its fine for me...
ShellWM isn't too buggy anymore, I use it every time I start up...only bad thing I can tell now is the fact that you have to select your skin at startup. Most problems can be fixed reading the FAQ of the SWM website.
MSstyle is built into XP. What are you talking about "slows down my machine". Of course a window takes time to load. ITS XP. WELCOME TO MICROSOFT. ![]()
I dont understand, you people say WB is faster than MSstyles? How is that? MSstyles are like the Luna that is INTERGRATED INTO XP.
Some people need to get thier fact straight. I know, i have ![]()

@ Bill:
Heh no offense taken...
I would like to know what do you mean by "integrated into XP". I mean, I can figure what you *want* to mean ![]()
What i wanted to say in a previous post is the following. Basically, WinXP comes with the old Windows style. Now, M$ has a nice little program that skins windows. M$ has it enabled by default. O.K. Now there is another software company hwo has a program that does the same: skin windows.
I really can't see why a program by M$ is necessarily faster than the one of a competitor with much more experience (years ahead!) in skinning. Look at the mem-usage: a typical msstyles skin is often around 3-4 MB large. Few WB skins are more than >1 MB (if there are any, dont use such).
So why is an M$ Product better by default in their first try?
I repeat: do you use M$ Paint, which is "integrated" in the OS, or would you use Photoshop for editing a picture? ![]()

please stop using "M$"

You don't want me to answer that one ![]()
@ David3k: We use M$ because Microsoft are money greedy bastards that can't build a proper OS, and will do anything to take your money and become number 1. Yeah, they are that bad. ![]()
I'm not a big fan of M$ but is what were all using do to compatiblity and or cost
. I have the full stardock line but use stlyes due to the problems for skinning certain apps. I know I could exclude them but if i use styles i can have all skinned
